This movie was fucking INSANE!!! Giant robots punching aliens from the bottom of the ocean?! Shit yeah! And somehow it still had way more heart than I expected! The scale of everything in this movie was ridiculous. Every Jaeger vs Kaiju fight felt like a heavyweight championship in the middle of the ocean... except not the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight. Fuck that fight. I legit caught myself grinning like a dumbass every time a robot slammed a monster into a skyscraper! Shit was insanely cool!
But what surprised me is how much emotion there actually was underneath all the chaos and destruction. It’s not just mindless action movie. There’s loss, trauma, and connection intertwined into it. The whole drift concept was super sick. It’s such a creative way to make the fights mean something instead of just being a bunch of CGI and VFX.
I went in expecting absolutely nothing. Safe to say, I was very pleasantly surprised. My assle popped outta socket. See you guys next week!

Fun fact about the movie. The first few Kaiju we see are all very regular Kaiju but after Newton drifts with the brain the Kaiju that arrive next, Otachi and Leatherback they are both specifically designed to deal with the Jaeger, ie Crimson Typhon, Striker Eureka and Cherno Alpha. Otachi had the tail to deal with Crimson Typhons tree arms and acid spit for Cherno Alpha’s thick hull. Leatherback had the EMP on it to deal with each Jaeger as every one was electrical. Jypsie Danger wasn’t countered as the Kaiju weren’t aware it was an active Jaeger so they didn’t send a Kaiju to counter it.

Yes they’re extremely polite and respectful but they have HUGE social issues to address. That also have very harsh and rude traditions which make it hard for some people to live. Depression and su*cide raté is critical in Japan and it doesn’t only affects adults, also teenage (even kids actually). They have so much pressure from the childhood to the work life that it gets unbearable for a lot of people. They don’t work to live, they have a « live to work » policy. Without mentioning many other issues like their how they treat women in their country and their « strange » culture around youth (to stay polite, they fantasize about young people, kids, a bit too much). Japan is a beautiful with a very deep culture and a deep history (as dark as it is) but they’re far from perfect, they have tons of issues. We all have our own issues in our respective countries, none of them are perfect, we all have pros and cons (I say that because I’m not American) I think we fantasize and glorify Japan so much because we’re biased by the way their culture and traditions are depicted (we only see what’s fun and cool obviously). We pretty much all consume something coming from their culture or inspired by it but growing and living there is nothing like going for vacation. The regular life of a regular office worker is modern hell lol (their work culture is kinda depressing which why they’re so depressed and have such high su*cide/depression rates)
