Star Wars: Rebels | S3 E2 | "Steps Into Shadow: Part Two" | (UNEDITED)

Honestly,

Ezra is scaring me just a little bit! I have no idea how much he is going to tilt towards the dark side! I get it... it's tempting. It feels good. It's attractive. You think it's going to give you the answers, but IT'S NOT!!!

In my experience, the road to Heaven feels like Hell, and the road to Hell feels like Heaven. DON'T FALL FOR IT EZRA!!!!

This is quality entertainment. Let's fucking go!!!

Love you all too,

Alex

I know it's common to say that someone is 'playing chess' when they act with intelligence and foresight, but it feels like an even more apt metaphor here. The five broken down fighters are small enough that we might consider them a pawn on the chessboard. The three larger rebel ships might be larger and more powerful pieces. Thrawn could take all of these pieces right here and now, but his goal is to wipe out ALL of the rebels. Thrawn letting them take the fighters is like allowing his opponent to capture one of his pawns so that he can slowly get a feel for this opponent and how they play, what tactics they use, when they will attack or retreat and what they will sacrifice and when for how much gain.

Thrawn is playing more than just chess, he's already several moves ahead and his opponent hasn't even placed their pieces on the board yet. No matter what, he is the smartest person in the room at all times, that includes Vader or the Emperor.

Scottie

I would say Kanan is definitely more of a father figure to Ezra, not a brother. Especially with the way both him and Hera refer to the rest of the crew. They’re basically the parents and the rest of them are their kids lol.

renuzui

It was part of the plan. It even states in Episode 4 that they let them go because they had placed a tracker on their ship. It's how they knew where the rebel base was. People always seem to forget that part.

Chess Red Eagle

Grand Admiral Thrawn is an amazing character! And when you think about how Darth Sidious' Empire basically only consists of humans... having a blue alien as the Grand Admiral is a big deal!

Tay Tay

With big dick Thrawn allowing the Rebels to escape here, it makes you think if the Stormtroopers constantly "missing" their targets in the OT was all a part of the plan...

DropBear

Well said about heaven and hell. I'm gonna steal that.

Alex

Yes, Thrawn is a big deal...so much so that they took this character from another trilogy(that should have been episodes 7-9 instead of the shit Disney made) written by an author who does not working for Lucas or Disney and incorperated him into thier Star Wars story.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

I guess Alex is just too young to know who grand Admiral Thrawn is. he was the main antagonist of the book trilogy that was written as the next three stories after return of the Jedi by Timothy Zahn his character characterization of admiral. Thrawn was so impressive that Lucas film and Lucas Artz and Lucas everything took that character and included him in games and other stories and animations and all sorts of stuff. He became a main character of the series in the flight simulator TIE fighter you actually fly under the command of a vice admiral Thrawn in the outer rim, and you quickly learn that he is a master tactician and not somebody to take lightly

Daisy Azuras

I'm so fucking happy that you understand Thrawn's character and what he truly is. He's playing 4D chess.

IGOR PODEMSKI

Those lasers are from the phantom not chopper himself lol 😂

Ysbulldog

As one of the many who knew about Thrawn prior to rebels. It's super interesting to see someone learn about him for the first time. I think it speaks volumes about the creators that they were able to immediately deliver the message of how imposing and terrifying Thrawn is to a new viewer without any additional background knowledge. Looking forward to this season!
