We Just Finished Avatar: The Last Airbender. Here Are ALL My Thoughts!

Comments

greatest show of all time!

needum patel

I'm so happy you loved it! I love seeing new fans fall in love with the franchise. Can't wait for you to see Korra! You're going to love her attitude, and no spoilers, but there's some awesome blood bending stuff!

VioletMouse

I don't know if the atla concert will ever come back or go through Hawaii but I really hope you take the chance to see it if you can. it pays a beautiful tribute to what made the show amazing and you get to experience those emotions again in a theater full of other fans. as someone who watched the original show when it was on Nickelodeon and have rewatched it multiple times since I still didn't understand what a big character the music of the show is. It's absolutely magical. https://www.avatarinconcert.com/

yup

Please Alex, you gotta do The Legend Of Korra next while The Last Airbender is fresh in your mind!

Chaz Carter (BlindyTheBat)

“Only characters in TV with the best character development is Walter white and zuko” though I somewhat agree I hope you watch the walking dead one day if you haven’t already to see the goat Rick grimes’ development

tyronne jones

Im all for a second channel video, maybe one day you can do a tierlist of your characters in the series :-) would be fun

there is many different life lessons in every part of this series. my favorite is sokka's story of him losing the love of his life. when he tries to move on in serpent's pass, the reason why he doesn't kiss suki is because the moon in between the two symbolizing the spirit of princess yue is still there. that whole episode is overcoming grief of a spouse, and learning not to hold onto the past. he fought with making sure suki wouldn't get hurt, yet she was capable of handling herself, but that trauma of him not being there for yue haunted him. which that point is brought up in the swamp episode as well. he constantly brings yue up and it's important when he cries over her in the ember island players because hes still in love with her, shushing suki when she dismissed it at first. it's a beautiful story from a relationship point of view on losing a lover, and moving on.

Ally

Yes man that channel is so good, brings a whole new appreciation for the series

Hi Alex. long time youtube watcher here, subscribed to your patreon to get your full length reaction on this series because it is one of favourite series of all time. Ive probably seen it 5 times or more. And there is so much i want to talk about, i really hope you see this comment and would be so happy to hear what you think about it <3 As you already said the world building is insanely good, and the characters embody many traits depending on their element. They based the different bending styles on real life martial arts. I dont know which one is which but its easy to look up if youre interested. Whats very interesting to me is how you can see Zuko integrating moves and stances from the other elements into his fighting style over the course of the show. Especially in the last fight against Azula you can see him doing Earth and Airbending Moves and using the stances. Which again just shows how he learned from Iroh but also his parallel development with Aang, what you also already mentioned. There are so many of these tiny details which just add to the show and make a rewatch that much more rewarding and pleasant. You always find new things and details. Another beautiful thing is the music, and as u also said how mature this series is for a kids show. The fight between Azula and Zuko has no epic music, its more of a sad piece of music, because it is a sad situation where two siblings have to fight, a fight which their whole lives kind of led to. I would wholeheardetly recommend a youtube series for you for this show. Its going through every episode and it points out all the little details one could have missed or just didnt put together. Its also a good option to relive the series if you are yearning for it later, in like 1 year or something :D Its called Overanalyzing Avatar, really worth watching. And quite funny imo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgsTuasZgzw&list=PLM85UYXAgk6_GKAAoMZOqdiwW_HX76Svd Another thing i wanted to add was that Bloodbending can only be done when there is a full moon, so Katara had no choice to use blood bending on the Firelord. Im sure im forgetting a lot of things, but for now thats all i got, if i recall something important ill answer to this comment. ^^ I love your reactions man. They always brighten up my day. Keep doing what you are doing. Love you <3

Dennis Busch

I can't wait for Legend of Korra. It doesn't have the same through-line story as Avatar because of the network bosses. But it's still great. It does a great job of building out the world, too!

Brian Stanaland

I have the show on DVD for atleast 10+ yrs and will watch it every so often but watchin someone else watch it in it's entirety was like watchin it again for the first time

Joseph Dykes

when are you gonna react to hunger games series

bella

He will probs edit some of these thoughts at the end of the massive avatar vid

Teo Lister

please do a youtube video on this! absolutely love hearing your analysis!

Shelly Do

Nice analysis and really enjoyed seeing someone else enjoy this series. Although I completely disagree with your preference on Katara & Zuko being a couple, but it’s your preference and it’s all subjective, which is fine. Cinema Therapy has a great analysis of this that I’d suggest you watch. They give several excellent psychological analyses through different videos on all the main characters. For me, I don’t believe they would have made a stable couple at all. They’re both powerful benders, but that’s not enough to build a relationship on. They have completely different energies, and I’m *NOT* talking about their bending. Zuko’s darker and troubled past is something he will struggle with all is life. If you read the comics after the show, you’ll see that even more clearly, but I believe the show conveys that well enough. Mai matches his energy, and they can better compliment and support each other as they turn the fire nation around. Katara’s light, purity and stability are a perfect harmony with, and support for Aang.

Diana

I haven't watched this in like 15 years so it was a great time watching back with ya! This show was a big part of my childhood especially since my uncle ran AvatarSpirit.net back in the day. I got to meet the creators when i was a teen. Now i'm 29 and it's crazy how this show still makes me emotional even today!

AHarmlessPear

im gonna go ahead and say it. S3 of Korra has some of the best moments in all of the ATLA universe. Its a bit more of a mature vibe all around. I think you would love it

Jamie

I haven't watched in over a decade and it was a pleasure to watch with you

AHarmlessPear

Or we can do mandalorian first because not going to be as long as Rebels...

Eric & Erika

I never finished rebels so that would be kind of fun to watch with you kind of excited about that

Eric & Erika

Hopefully the anime

Saulo Desouza Jr.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I recently watched the new live action ATLA show on Netflix, and personally I freaking loved it. I wouldn't say it's better than the original that we all just watched together, but DEFINITELY better than the movie. The way I see it, the live action show is like a homage to the original show, almost like all of us kids who watched the show growing up are now all adults and that's who the show was really for. Really glad I got to relive the old show again, thank you Alex for the content!

EvoHimself

Zuko never had a darkness in him like Azula and their father did. Zuko, as a kid knew how mean and vindictive Azula was, but no one believed him or he never really said anything because she was family and he didn't know better at the time. Zuko was kind of a momma's boy, whereas Azula was praised as a prodigy by their father which inflated Azula's ego from an early age. Zuko's redemption is more so him finally seeing the truth about what the world thinks of the fire nation and what he can do to fix it.

TacoMonsterNick

the fight scenes in korra is so good

kevin

I was wondering if I take a 70$ subscribe. Can I tell you to watch a movie ? I don’t have many friends and my life is basically boring but I love cinema it makes me real. And I love your reactions. I would love you to react to my favorite movie. Who is a underrated movie af. Never going to win the poll because no one ever heard of it. But if I can make you react to it I’m sure you would love it and people would love it

Dexter

Anime or live action?

Jordan Dempster

I rather you watch One Piece than LOK tbh. Korra is the worst avatar anyway you aint missing anything.

Prince Geoff

Definitely check The Legend of Korra. The show is really amazing and has a lot of good characters. I'm sure you'll love Bolin. The only annoying thing is the love squares, but otherwise it's worth checking out.

Robytcz73

LOK is a good show, worth checking out

Lowinami

I’d love to see your reaction to LEGEND OF KORRA! Don’t listen to the hate, people are dramatic about how bad it is. It’s not as perfect as ATLA, but let’s be honest almost nothing is. LOK is a GREAT SHOW. It’s also fun seeing how the world evolves post 100-year war.

Syd

Once again, I highly, highly recommend you check out the Overanalyzing Avatar youtube channel

crackdobby

If you like Azula I would really recommend the YouTube video "the psychology of Azula" it's so interesting, especially as you mentioned in regards to her and Zuko and nature vs. nurture.

Julie Bank

Loved this video and watching you love this show. Another comment asking for the tv show and movie before legend of korra and before Star Wars please I’m begging

AllyBoo124

You and me are on the same page. Love Katara and aang it makes sense I have like one or two qualms but overall cute love story. But Katara and Zuko are such amazing foils to each both being hurt by the fire nation, literally Fire and Water, and the growth from enemies to learning to trust each other to been genuine friends. I wanted/want them to be together so bad, both are old but Zuko and Katara had potential for an amazing love story that I think would’ve fit both of their journeys of growth. I could go on but i won’t😭

AllyBoo124

That's because you compare it to ATLA instead of it's own show. On it's own, it stands up well.

Austin Hoggard

This

Cornelius Pichlmayr

Guys should we explain the whole thing with Korra and how many seasons the writers thought they had

Daviahn Thrasher

TLOK is a very good show but the world is different; it’s changed like it would in real life. The live action Netflix show is good. I enjoyed it even though some things had to be tweaked or changed. It definitely showcases darker themes and drives home the point that a war is happening. I would watch your reactions to both TLOK and the live action show.

Bekah

The animated movie is supposed to come out next January, I think.

Diana

Alex talked about a mark of a great show is how it can flow well between comedy and Drama. This is the reason why I can't wait for Alex to watch Everything Everywhere All At Once. It's that to it's core, within a the span of the movie you'll see the most ridiculous things ever while also having the most down to earth heartfelt family drama.

David

For what it's worth there is a animated movie following the adult Gaang in their early 20's in the works, though I'm not sure when it drops. The live action series on Netflix isn't necessarily bad, it just doesn't quite meet the exceptionally high standards that the animated show set. Some of the worse changes are but not limited to: questionable re-writing decisions, change of some of the characters whole personalities, and on and on. There are some things that the live action show actually did well, especially some parts surrounding Zuko's character. Although I have some gripes with how they handled him too, mainly surrounding the Agni Kai with his dad.

Kris

What a ride it’s been, loved watching this for the 15th time along side you lmao it’s always so fun to see other people reacting for the first time and seeing what their takeaways are. So glad you loved it as much as we all do! You should definitely do another YouTube video where you dive deeper and have visuals that would be sick!

Dallon Slaughter

Can I just say that I love ur wife and ur relationship with her from everything I’ve seen of her showing up in videos and ur socials :) she’s awesome!!

Logan Staffer

100%

Rocky

Please watch korra. It is a great show in its own right but ATLA is god tier and can’t be touched but korra is a fantastic show. Then watch the movie we don’t like talking about to see how bad it is and then do the Netflix live action to see how it can be done well.

Hiei

korra deserves a watch the villains especially in the final season are great the use of the spirit world is much better and the use of other forms of bending is explored upon much more definitely need to watch plus i don’t know what im gonna do without avatar wednesdays😭😭

Coin s

please watch KORRA

Coin s

nah he def needs to watch it

Coin s

No need for korra .. there are much better things to watch

roberts veselis

If you're watching The Legend of Korra(plsss), go into it with an open mind. It will never be the same as Avatar: The Last Airbender, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t great in its own way. The key is to see it as its own show rather than constantly comparing it to ATLA. (in my opinion!) For me, ATLA will always be on another level, but LoK has so much to offer if you don’t watch it through the lens of “this isn’t as good as the first series.” When I first watched it, I ruined the experience for myself by constantly mourning the differences. But on my second watch, I appreciated it so much more. The Legend of Korra is a fantastic show—you just have to let it stand on its own. I love both shows so much! 🥰🙏

justjennyi

Korra is lesser than ATLA but I still watch for all the bending and story line is pretty good

Hunter Beard

Only one question left….. will you be watching the legend of Korra?

Hunter Beard

I dont think Alex would Like it, I dont hate korra but it is FAR below ATLA in like every aspect

Vincent Baierl

Alex, I’m wondering if you will ever be rewatching ATLA on your own time? I sure did as a kid, and I’ve even rewatched as an adult several times.

DarnedStingray8

One thing I want to mention about Zuko and Azula is that they grew up in the same environment but they are different because of the parent they connected with. Zuko had his mother and had Iroh to put him on this path of redemption but from what we see Azula only really connected with her father even when she was little. It’s very common for that kind of thing to happen in abusive households and in the end Azula is broken by being faced with her principles, her father’s principles, being wrong and fallible especially once Tia Lee and Mai betray her for love (her mother’s principles) and her father starts treating her more like he treats Zuko. PS: You should at least react to the live action movie if only because it is traditional at this point for reactors to watch the show, love it and then watch the movie to clown on that lol

Stuff1235

"I want to use the blender" lol I feel that, but girl, that isn't anywhere near as loud and annoying as the sirens loooool

Antivalentine

hope so, it seems thats what the comments want after starwars rotates in

NevoDaSlowPoke

Now legend of Korra on wensday!!!??

danny bouman

I don't know how others feel but if you were up to it I would love for you to rewatch all of breaking bad

Berri

Now, there are a bunch of comics about what's our main characters are up to right after the show's end. Check them out sometime.

Alex

alex if you see this please hear me out if mandolorian wins on your recent poll you have to ignore it and watch rebels the people who didnt even watch your clone wars reaction are RUINING your star wars experience unintentionally but still please DO NOT WATCH MANDOLORIAN YET

zach

Im in France so I hope scary movie reaction will pop out in the morning 🤣 ( it’s 10PM here )

Dexter

The live action isn't that bad it's not good but it's not as bad as people make it out to be. The Movie on the other hand.

Red powers

My favorite thing about this show is that yeah it's a "kids" show but watching it as an adult you can tell that this show is a lot darker then what it seemed..Aang is 100% my favorite character with Zuko being 2nd. I just love at the end Aang never abandoned his morals. I just love that Aang didn't defeat Ozai as Avatar Aang he defeated him as Aang The Avatar which is something a lot of people don't mention at all. I will say in Korra I personally think the enemies are 100% better..Even the non-benders can actually put up a better fight and they aren't there just to be there (If that makes sense). The one thing that makes this show better than most "kids" shows today is that A. There is an actual story. Too many kids shows just don't have a story. B. In season if you watch you can tell in the first few episodes that Azula does actually care about Zuko. But as soon as Mai and Ty Lee are removed that's when Azula became unhinged. They where there to honestly keep her balanced. And the fight between Zuko and Azula is sad because they where put into a position to actually kill each other. I feel a lot of shows don't know how to write a villainous female character. And I do love when shows story wise knows when to stop instead of keep going. There are comics set between ATLA and Korra so I would recommend them.

Red powers

And that's why it's the best show ever made.

Scottie

Dcamu next 👀

Marquis keel

Nice upload!

Joovain

There’s a movie and a l new series coming out, I’d recommend Legend of Korra as to keep up with the story, this show has mixed reviews but it’s enjoyable

Isaiah Miller

I love that this show has touched you like it has so many of us fans through the years!! I’m so glad I got to watch your first time reactions to this with you !! 😇💯
