LET’S WATCH: Avatar: The Last Airbender | Book 3 | Episode 4 | "Sokka's Master"

Hey guys,

Remember how I was just talking about when we focus in on one individual character, they become my instant favorite... well here we go! Sokka-centric episodes need to happen more often, because this one was such a banger!!

I love how this episode reminded us that Sokka doesn't have bending ability, but he is an extremely integral part of the team with his jokes, sense of humor, light-heartedness, and map-reading ability!

Without Sokka, there is no way in hell our group would be where they are today. And now he's on his way to being a BADASS FUCKING SWORDSM'N!?!?!?

Badass!

What do you guys think? More Sokka-centered episodes need to happen? I think so!

Love you guys! See you all tomorrow for the GIANT-ASS Q&A!!

Alex

LET’S WATCH: Avatar: The Last Airbender | Book 3 | Episode 4 | "Sokka's Master"

Comments

Tell me why after about 100 times of watching this show I just now noticed that Iroh stuffed that blanket in his robes to make him look fat 😂

HawkEye Gaming

This is my favorite episode. I even have a replica of the sword he makes. Black blade and all.

Zairan Brown

I dont know if its ever said but I think this is how Sokka becomes inducted into the Order of the White Lotus

E-Hensley

Fun fact, the waterfall they animated for the landscape portrait section is inspired by a real life waterfall in Iceland called Gullfoss

Kris

This a favorite episode of mine not just for the growth of Sokka from a boy to a man but also because I’m a blacksmith and I really love it when characters make their own sword and they go through the processes a little.

Daisy Azuras

Did he seriously forget about the white Lotus Society? that was like a key moment during the desert escape for Iroh and Zuko.

Daisy Azuras

Ah but yet again he's a bender already 😅 for example, imagine Irohs redirect-lighnting-lesson but teaching it to Sokka. Having control of their own chi but only inside their bodies and not connected to energy outside of their bodies like benders. Or think about how Ty Lee can block chi, and make you unable to move, maybe she can also control her own chi, strengthening her muscles etc to be able to jump crazy high? Or being able to stand just on her fingertips (as shown in her introduction)? Stuff like that for non benders.

Mo Ma

Ooh mb, misunderstood. the Kyoshi novels deal with what you're talking about. I think it's implied or stated that Huu, the swamp bender who bends water in vines can sense the presence of others in the swamp.

Chosaku_

Ah ok good to know, but I'm not talking if a non bender could bend. Just if they could use their chakra inside their bodies to gain other kinds of abilities different than bending. Just like the Guru has energy reading and longer live.

Mo Ma

Iirc the co creators have said bending is both genetic predisposition and spiritual development. So, Sokka could theoretically waterbend but he lacks the spiritual development to do so. But even if he tried, he wouldn't be able to. I cant go into the extremely rare circumstance that has to happen w/o spoilers , but even then he very likely couldn't ^_^'

Chosaku_

to the ATLA enthusiasts I got a question. In the show we established that people have chakras and that every person has this energy inside their bodies. But only a select few can use this energy to bend the elements thus making them benders. BUT can normal non-bender people still manipulate the chakra flow in their own body? So for example what Iroh thought Zuko to redirect lightning? It works by letting the energy in your body flow, so the lightning follows the path. We've never really seen what non-bending people who are chakra masters can do. Only thing was the Guru who's older than 100 years and could sense where Aang despite being almost on the other side of the world by reading the chakra/energy. Was there other people like that in the comic? Who used that in a more combatant style?

Mo Ma

one of my favourite episodes, shows just how much sokka has grown and shows the ground work for his future growth

Duff

Yo Alex do you garden?? ;) You’re eyes sometimes look a lil rojo

Impulse RL

My top 3 favorite characters are Iroh, Sokka, and Toph in that order

colton Lem

Season 2 is yeah, but the rest of the show was pretty good especially season 3.

renuzui

Sokka is the avatar of non-bending fighting. He grew up with water tribe fighting styles/weapons, mostly longer reach weapons like spears and his boomerang which allows him freedom of movement and shift to a different direction with ease, much how water benders are constantly moving and redirecting. Then he learned the earth nation fighting style from the Kyoshi Warriors of keeping your base and staying rooted like earth benders and then using your opponents momentum against them (which is a bit of water style mixed in). At the northern air temple he learned the air nomad philosophy of avoiding direct confrontation and using unorthodox and creative ways to win fights i.e. attacking from out of reach in the sky and using methane gas, much. And now from Siandao he learned the fire nation style, requiring precision, focus, control, and passion, because fire bending requires all of those traits in order to control fire. And the last part of being the avatar is the connection to the spirit realm, which is all about how everything and everyone is connected regardless of bender or non-bender, existing outside and separate of nations and politics. Sokka also learned this from Siandao in the White Lotus philosophy that the way of the sword (martial arts) doesn't belong to any one nation, but is a combination and compilation of all styles, existing outside and separate of nations and politics.

Evan

That’s crazy how have I never noticed

Charlie Fontana

its mid af

NoahNT

Why should he live in dc lol

Omri

Ir hoy rewatch the serie. Solka since the beggining he shows how Smart AND intuitive he is

Gabriel Aguirre

Have run Korra after ATLA

Murf

Anyone else think Alex looks like he should live in D.C.? Hawaii cool tho.

Luke Gressel

No, you can’t learn bending it’s something you are born with. Think back to how katara was the only water bender left in the southern water tribe

Rylee Wilson

Watch korra

Max Blackburn

I know Alex said he was going to move to star wars after this was done but I really want him to do korra cause it’s not as good but it’s still a very good show in its own right. Plus anybody wanna see him watch the movie to see how mad he will get? Cause I kinda do

Hiei

The Master tells Sokka to use a better cover bame, and suggests "Lee", there's a ton of Lee's. "Lee" was Zuko's cover name in the Earth Kingdom in Book 2. Also, The White Lotus Tile. Please refer back to the book 2 episode, 'The Desert", Alex. That will give you a clue as to what that is reffering to.

Indica Ink

korra is a must watch legitimately the group gives off such a similar vibe

Coin s

Noooooo I don’t wanna wait until next weeeeeek!!!

maliemoment

Great Pfp long live Noxus ✊

Oliver

When Iroh reveals he’s swol.. ooooo chefs kiss

Charlie Fontana

The ability to bend is something a person is born with in this universe. It cannot be learned. It’s hereditary usually. It’s just random luck if it is passed on to you or not tho .

Brooklyn

Fuucckkkk I want more lol

Lucas Husli

Sokka not only brings light-heartedness, jokes, and map reading skills. He keeps everyone on track. You’re right when you say they wouldn’t have gotten as far as they have if it weren’t for Sokka. He really is a great warrior and leader. He’s everything Piandao said: creative, versatile, intelligent (granted, sometimes in really dumb ways). He’s also strategic, good at tracking, protective and has integrity. His character arc is just as impressive as anyone else’s in the show. He’s come a long way from where he was in the beginning, and it’s not finished yet :)

Shandilynn Thomas

The Prequel Memes are strong with this one.

Alex

You have to be born with a bending ability.

Shandilynn Thomas

Back Bender

Oliver

Sokka has women bending abilities 😂

Alex Georgiadis

Btw, I'm guessing that either avatar was a symptom of, or making fun of Dan Schneider, a former Nick show executive who is notorious for having a foot fetish. If you've ever seen ICarly, or Victorious, or even watch the documentary of life on set of those shows, you'll understand what kind of man he is

Cole Romero

Fun Fact: One of the symbols that Toph made out of the Meteor at the end was the old Nickelodeon logo
