Avatar: The Last Airbender | Book 1 | Episode 18 - "The Waterbending Master" (FULL EPISODE REACTION)

Hey everyone!

WHAT THE FUCK!?!?!?! He was Katara's grandmother's fiance?! AND WHAT THE SHIT, SOKKA OUT HERE KISSING ICE PRINCESSES?!?!

This episode was WILD and really such a tease because it builds RIGHT UP to the giant battle!

At this point, I thought Aang was going to have mastered water bending, but I guess that will come at the end of the battle. That's my guess.

THIS IS SO GOOD!!!

Love you all,

Alex

Seige of the north

Gabriel Waterman

I don’t remember exactly but I could’ve sworn that the chief of the northern water tribe also making a comment about it being a part of their culture. And even Katara says that’s why her grandmother left because of their traditions. Pakku isn’t the chief and it seems to have been a tradition for decades that women don’t learn combative waterbending in the northern tribe

15:50 i genuinely think any culture that fucks with the rights of a group of people doesn't deserve respect

A.M Seymour

I honestly think the tribe doesn't have a rule against women benders and it was just him cause he recognized her

A.M Seymour

“oh fuck that got complicated” killed meeeee lol

The show just gets better and better. I wish he would watch them already 😭

Sokka the back bender gotta love it This show might be called avatar but it’s the story of Sokka and his growing harem 😂😂😂

Nightmareman99

Sokka is the back bender

I don’t want to ruin the live action tv show for him too much but I have to agree. I hated the fight in the show and I was looking forward to it so much

AllyBoo124

For the southern water tribe Katara is the very last water bender of the entire southern tribe and they didn’t have rule about women learning to water bend, not that there was anyone around to teach Katara anyway. And even though she put Pakku in his place with that fight WHICH I LOVE, him refusing is so crazy from a cultural standpoint. She’s the last water bender of your sister tribe if anything you should teach her so she could teach possible future water benders that may be born in the southern tribe, although I understand why he said no I’m just saying. These last three episodes are so goid.

When it comes to your question of mastering water (or just an element in general) - the 4 bending styles are essentially Martial Arts in the Avatar World. Technically they are in our world too, but that's besides the point. When the creators of ATLA where making the show they based all the elements on different styles of Martial Arts. Airbending is based on Baguazhang style of Martial Arts, Water Bending is Based on Tai Chi, Earthbending is based on Hung Gar (a Kung Fu Form/style), Firebending is based on Northern Shaolin Banguazhang = involves smooth coiling and uncoiling actions, dynamic footwork, throws, and hand techniques. (Don't know the specific form name for Waterbending) Tai Chi = a softer style that focuses on alignment, breath, and visualization Hung Gar = a style based on animal movements, especially the tiger and crane Northern Shaolin = a strong, dynamic style that uses hand and leg movements The Creators actually brought on a Martial Arts master that would help choreograph fights to make them look as accurate as they can be in the show. Jesus this is long - whelp you asked!

I'm reminded of how lame the fight between Katara and the Grandmaster is on the Netflix version. This is truely God-tier!
