Damn man never got around to watching this version of the film it’s so much better than the og release. I love how they lean more into the knightmare world (the dystopian visions) they had the dcau going in a very cool direction. The knightmare world is very reminiscent of the injustice storyline. Injustice is a comic (and animated film) about Superman being pushed so far over the edge by the joker that he becomes a tyrant killing “crime” before it can start. Like Knightmare Clark blames Bruce for everything because he refused to kill the joker sooner. All it takes is one bad day Side note this film is based of the death of Superman (doomsday) and the original dark knight comics (Batman v Superman)

You could probably write a 100-page essay about everything that's wrong with the DCEU movies. The fact that most of them required extensive reshoots or even alternate versions (like this one) to fix the messy stories and writing is a testament to the lacking quality. The biggest flaw for me will always be the unfaithful portrayal of the characters though. If you know Superman and Batman from the source material (like the comics), you wouldn't even recognize them in the characters shown in this movie. It's pretty painful to see how something like Justice League Unlimited, which is a children's cartoon, does a significantly better job showing off the characters in an accurate way. If you want to continue watching more DCEU movies, I can recommend the first Wonder Woman movie and Justice League (the Snyder Cut version). It's very long and not perfect, but it's miles better than the theatrical release. "The Suicide Squad" (different movie from just "Suicide Squad") is also pretty good.

You notice who was playing Bruce’s parents at the beginning? Fkin Negan and Maggie from the walking dead. This film birthed fans begging for Warner bros to give us a flashpoint paradox live action film. The flashpoint story is where the flash goes back in time to save his mother from dying sending ripples throughout the world changing the timeline. If the flashpoint universe Bruce was the one who dies not his parents. His dad became Batman one who uses guns and isn’t afraid to kill while his mother went insane and became the joker. There is a animated film that is great and with show just how badass aquaman is.

Alex, as a long time DC fan, trust me I’m old AF, you need to watch the original Superman with Christopher Reeve, just for general backstory and Superman knowledge in general. I think you’re missing a few things in these that they assume the viewer is aware of. Doomsday, the final beast at the end, was never touched on in the films before. Doomsday and the death of Superman was a story in comics back in 1992. Yes I remember it well, thank you. So that part of the story would have been new to any viewer of the movies. Cavill is an awesome Superman, and I thought the whole cast is good. Your next watch in the series is Wonder Woman and Aquaman, but I would watch the 1978 Superman before finally tackling the Snyder Cut Justice League.

Such a good movie lots of hard work put into it. From set building to post production. All you got left is the 5 hours Snyder crafted perfectly to end it all. Good creativity. If comics can change and have different iterations so can movies. We might never get to see these two Goliath of characters hit the screen together because of horrendous fans. My general opinion is that regardless of what DCEU movies you watch as a reactor, at some point in your life you should watch The Suicide Squad (2021) because I'm very confident you will enjoy that movie. It's by the same director as Guardians of the Galaxy but it's a bit more...off kilter. It's a very well made example of violently comedic superhero movies.

Older Batman starts killing... well first he stops pulling his punches, then he stops caring whether they live or die, and then finally he starts going for kill shots... most of the people batman fought in this movie, with the exception of the vision of the future, were alive when he left them... they may not have stayed that way for long, and there was at least one guy who is full-on paralysed from the neck down, but Batman only murdered the Russian.

Alex, you keep saying it's a no brainer that superman versus batman, no contest, superman wins... yet in the comics, Batman has beaten every superhero that he has come up against because he is smart enough to come up with a plan to win in every scenario, including the Hulk, when DC and Marvel did a crossover. He's trained himself to be the physical peak of humanity. He has the intelligence and the finances to create technology and weapons to rival god's and to outthink every foe, he faces the only one that ever posed a real threat to him in the outcome was the joker, because he was so chaotic and unpredictable. So as you are saying, yeah, it's a no brainer, thinking that superman is the obvious win, everyone that has knowledge of the comics is saying yeah, it's a no brainer, Batman's got this in the bag.

Alex, one final thought about DC (all of DC, not just the movies): DC has arguably the top 3 superheroes of all time. Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman. Some call them the trinity of superheroes. Superman directly got his name from the German idea of the “Übermensch.” It’s always about their power and fighting evil (Batman using his detective skills and weapons), and ability to rule the world if they wanted to but choose to help humanity instead. It’s not about their relationships, character development, or emotional arcs. Those 3 never really had that to the same degree other characters did, and when stories try to add that to them, it ruins the god-like aspects of what they are. They work together to defeat evil and Batman uses his ingenuity, money, and detective skills to help, but also keep the other two in check - many times in the comics hiding stashes of kryptonite weapons as insurance. And Batman does kill in the comics and is a loner. He’s not looking to chill and hang out. He’s on a mission and only wants to partner with them for strategic purpose, not friendship. By the way, DC stands for Detective Comics.

For the most part I would agree with you but in my opinion that’s not quite as true in ZSJL. (Spoilers ahead) What Snyder did with Cyborg was in my opinion the strongest character work and emotional connection that he’s done in the DCEU, and I’d say that Cyborgs character development is kind of the heart of that whole movie.

I do understand where Alex is coming from when he says the movie lacks emotional depth, but, I also feel that could be from him not knowing the comics. I believe the movie kind of relies on you knowing the story of Lois and Clark and their relationship to feel the emotion between them. While the MCU can tell a good origin story and people without comic knowledge can get it, the DCEU just expects you to know the characters already going in.
