Why is this show so good?! I know you all have been telling me about it for awhile, but I still think it wasn't requested enough from you all... LOLOL not blaming you guys AT ALL. Well, kinda.

I am just so thoroughly enjoying this show! Especially this episode because we are now at a point where multiple different story lines are being intertwined, and it is fucking badass to see!

Even more than the skills and techniques you learn to live in the military, but the mindset you develop in training and how much abuse is entirely normalized. You love it because you got through it and the bond you for with all members of the military, even though you know it was bad. Hope you're doing ok brother/sister, this show is awesome.

There’s just some things you can’t unlearn and I literally refer to my relationship with the Navy as Stockholm Syndrome. It’s been so detrimental to my mental and physical health but at the same time I love it. It’s a crazy wide range of emotions but ultimately I will always be glad to have experienced it. :))

I don't know how long it will take Alex to get around to the second season, but the first day of filming the first fight scene of the 2nd season, Jon Bernthal broke his hand. He battled through it and tore ligaments on the second day...then dislocated it and had to have emergency surgery on the 3rd day. He is just as stubborn as Frank and did NOT want to bow out and let the stunt team have all the fun. If you haven't watched the Reacher series on Prime, it has some pretty great fight scenes.

The fight scenes are what I'm here for. I fought semi-pro for 12 years and watching skilled fight chorography is my sweet spot.

My dad was a Marine and taught sniper school, so it's like a hug from my dad who isn't around anymore. How about you? First time watching through or a rewatch?

I just am a firm believer that if I have the ability to spread a little info where room was left for a third party to come away with the wrong/incomplete idea, then I sort of have a duty to do so...if that makes sense?

I guess I was feeling the similarity between my once diagnosed Stockholm syndrome and Lewis' institutionalized behavior. My son did 3 tours so I do have some second hand knowledge of how the military trains their people. I was short with my O.G. comment by choice not due to lack of understanding. I'm quite the crappy, inpatient typer. Thank you for a more complete description of both survival mechanisms.

People with Stockholm syndrome develop positive feelings toward their captors and are not just complying voluntarily but actively helping...to the point where they view the police as a threat. There's a big difference between "I'm doing this so Bob doesn't kill me" and "I'm doing this because I like Bob and want him to succeed" Boot camp is literally designed to institutionalise and indoctrinate the mind. Break the individual down and rebuild them to be a part of the group. Strip their individual appearance away first, push them to the point of exhaustion, and teach them that thinking of themself is bad...punishing the group for the acts of the individual so that even the other people who are being similarly broken will pressure you to get in line and put the group first. Lewis is exhibiting fairly classic symptoms of institutionalised behaviour. Hypervigilance, anxiety, depression, social withdrawal...an inability to cope with the lack of structure and a fear of change. Sidenote: the way the military operates is why SO MANY folks with undiagnosed neurodivergence actually thrive in the military. That structure and routine is vital and, then when they get out, they struggle so hard with the absence. I know so many guys that get diagnosed with ADHD or Autism within 5 years of getting out of the military...because the civilian world is not set up for them at all and their trouble coping causes all of their neurodivergent behaviours to become so much more obvious.

When a person who is fully dependent on their captor, they must find a way to survive the situation so they become friendly and they consent to the horrible things that are happening to them as a way to save their lives.
