The best thing about the first episode is that it sets you up to think that this is like the justice league you know like a normal cartoon, where nobody dies and everything is pretty safe and then at the very end, it just gut punches you so hard

I second the recommendation of the Legend of Vox Machina. Similar animation style, and also gets pretty intense action and brutality-wise. Yes it's based on a DND campaign but you don't need to know anything about DND to enjoy it.

While I also LOVE Critical Role. I do not want anyone to expect THIS when watching that. Critical Role's no where near as violent or gruesome. The animation and humor may be similar (I don't remember the animation style of the show if I'm being 100% honest) but the tone is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!

Now that I actually watched your reaction, I just want to say that I'm sooo glad that the gruesomeness of the show was a surprise for you. They purposely made the first episode with less bloody violence to add to the shock factor of the post credit scene. Get ready for a wild ride, my friend. It only gets better! Also, fun fact, Robert** Kirkman(I don't know why I had Johnathan in my head originally lol) who wrote the Invincible comic also wrote The Walking Dead comic and a lot of the actors from the show actually voiced many of the Guardians of the Globe characters in the first episode.
