The statues in the lair are really cool. They show what Grievous race usually looks like. He was wounded in battle, leading to him being transplanted into a cyborg. His cough is from a battle with a Jedi that used the force to slam into his belly.

They tried getting aid from the Republic but their race wasn't well known. However because they invaded the Huk homeworld, the Republic sent aid because the Huks were allied with them. The Republic did not listen or acknowledge them leading to a sanction on Grievous' race the Kaleesh, then leading to millions of his people to starve. So, basically that's one of the big reasons for Grievous hating the Republic
