2024-02-29 17:42:26 +0000 UTCProcrastination is my struggle. I’ve got ADHD and Asperger’s and despite what most people think, ADHD is not just fidgeting around and being restless. Most of the time I try to turn negative things into a positive outcome. For example ADHD. Yes it’s a huge hindrance to living a steady normal life, but instead of making excuses with ADHD, I try to find positive aspects and strengths within it which can be of benefit. (Now I have to mention that not all ADHD people are alike and people have different personalities, cultural backgrounds and social environments which they grow up. Which makes having ADHD a unique experience for each person affected.) So one of the downsides and least favorite aspects of ADHD (for me) is procrastination. Now I know a lot of people will say, “I don’t have ADHD and I fidget/am restless/procrastinate/etc. That doesn’t mean you have ADHD nor does it say you know what it’s like. You don’t. But it can (if you let it) be a guide to be able to understand someone’s perspective a little. So keeping that in mind, the problem with procrastination with ADHD is that it’s not only not getting a task done or even starting it but it’s connected to other things as well. So for me it’s being anxious, getting stressed which then leads to “ADHD paralysis” (where, at least for me, it becomes physically painful to move. This can come in a form of severe headaches, muscle aches, back pain, etc.), but the one thing that helps me is using one of the powerful good aspects of ADHD. Which (for me) are being able to concentrate on something hours on end (easily 8-10 hours even), being “hyper focused”. Which eventually makes up for the time spent procrastinating. I need to add that on top of having these “episodes” of ADHD paralysis, I also lack the understanding/perception of passing time (also very typical for ADHD people). Which means with deadlines and assignments that take more than 30min. I don’t have the same strengths in calculating how much time I will need for something or when I would need to start a task that takes longer so that I would finish it in time. So I’m trying something today to get out of the paralysis state I’m in at the moment by “tricking” myself to start tasks I should’ve started a month ago. Simply by finding something within that task that is particularly interesting or important for me and go from there. Which will then be taken over by the “hyper focus” -mode and basically give me the ability to complete the tasks and make up at least some of the time I lost. Finding something within the task that is interesting or important can be for example to really wanting outshine you previous results, or proving yourself or others that you’re able to do something despite their judgement. Even for trying to be the best at something. To finding something interesting within the task might be something that gets you started on it, and can be crucial when trying to overcome the ”paralysis” phase. If it’s an assignment in your studies, try writing down what you already know, google something new about it and then look at what else you need to know to complete the task and there is your start. This may not work for everyone, but maybe it helps someone. Pay it forward! Ps. A movie Alex definitely should see if he hasn’t already!

2024-02-29 10:37:06 +0000 UTCThank you Alex.. I am chasing my dream but constantly finding myself broke, in debt, lonely and wishing that my 20s were more full of light and human interaction. Getting my degree is important but when days go by without talking to anyone or weeks go by without a hug and I cant afford to go visit my family…. This channel and your videos really help. It is so important to live in the now, let go of the past and continue being hopeful for the future. I needed this message and just a feeling of community and being a part of something today. <3

2024-02-29 04:35:33 +0000 UTCDude, I love your channel. This kind of stuff is what I need to hear though. It’s easy to get caught up in the past and things that you can’t change. I just feel better when someone else whom I respect can reinforce what I already how I should be seeing things. Keep it up.

2024-02-29 02:28:08 +0000 UTCI actually needed this … I have been so lonely recently… I’m 27 and have been trying to find a person to start a family with since 22 years old … 5 years of being disappointed and alone is hard especially with everyone in my life getting engaged and married. I just want a wholesome relationship with a loving woman who I can love and who loves me for me. It just seems like I’ll never find love
