AMA3: Mortze - following on Tlaero's AMA

Did you guys ever envision the success you've had?

I most certainly wished to be successful. At first I just wanted to prove myself that I could make 3D renderings, and in my mind there were certainly much stories I'd love to tell. My goal wasn't to make this my principal occupation. Any success I was wishing for was a recognition that I could produce nice pictures that people would enjoy. When this became my job then yeah, the desire to be more successful grew even more - logically, since success meant more revenue, and that meant a better life but also better opportunities to get better with the renderings, buying more 3d content, more books about lighting, photography and compositing, improving hardware. I didn't envision "how much" successful I wanted to be at the time though. And currently, I am never satisfied with the "success" I have. I make pretty pictures for rather obscure and unknown games and I've gather a dedicated fan-base of my graphic style. But I confess that now I would like more - in terms of success. It's not properly about income. Success, in my book, will be when some big shot company, like Lucasfilms, Eidos, WhiteWolf, WizardsoftheCoast, etc contact me to ask me to render concept art for them. I can't think for a better success for a 3d render artist.

Looking back, yeah, I wanted to be successful. Otherwise I'd have kept Dreaming with Elsa in my computer and wouldn't have agreed to share it for free. If you share something you want recognition of your efforts. That doesn't mean only praise and cheers, but also good criticizing to support you into making better next time.

In the end, having people dedicate their time to look at my pictures and encouraging me to do much more is an aspect of success that makes me happy every single day.

How much does fan feedback influence you, if at all?

Any feedback aimed at improving my skill to make better picture, either suggesting new methods, indicating nice content to use, showing me new opportunities, is very welcome and appreciated influence. I'll never frown upon someone that spend time, giving his feedback, and suggesting another approach to some scene technical or artistic aspect.

An entirely different thing is when the feedback is not aimed at improving my skills but rather to ask me to indulge in their personal demands/fantasies like more anal, less anal, shaved pussies, incest, rape, bigger boobs, etc. I don't consider that feedback at all. When it happens I don't let it influence me much, or any at all.

Other than that, any fan feedback aimed genuinely at improving our work or to tell us that their time playing our game was well spent time is what makes us want to keep doing this. So, in that regard, that type of feedback does influence us greatly because that's the fuel we need to keep going.

Did the final scene in Coming to Grips with Christine imply that we'd get another Keeley game in the future? And, if so, will Keisha have a part in it?

No clue. I deerly hope so though. I love Keisha, and I like "my" new Keisha :)

How did you find your way to working in this genre?

I was a consumer of this type of games. I was mainly a fan of Pusooy's games. One day I asked in his forum what kind of software and skills he needed to make such cute ladies. I wanted to make girls like that in my computer for… research purposes. I somehow figured that it wasn't that hard to render a pretty girl.

I think that contacting Tlaero, and getting her teamed up with me, was the catalyzer to get into this. I doubt that had she refused I would be making games, or any sort of 3D rendering at all.

So, before you tell me that you like my pictures please remember to give your thanks to Tlaero. Without her there wouldn't have been a Mortze.

Do you play erotic adventure games too? Which ones do you like? What would you like to see more of?

Oh yeah! I think I've already said which former and current games I like. But risking repeating myself here goes. I started playing Dating Ariane, and Tlaero/Phreaky's games, also at the same time I discovered Pusoy's games. Vdategames also were very popular in my playtime.

Nowadays I don't have the luck to play Tlaero games anymore… That's the only drawback of this partnership. I'll never enjoy discovering a Tlaero game as long as we keep working together.

Since I've been helping Pusoy with his game as game consultant I face the same personal disappointment in not being able to enjoy his games as any other player.

I really wish someone would step up and make a game like Darkness Falls. In the meantime, I'll have to content myself with more mainstream games. Some are good and since I like some weird themes I like playing them, like SummertimeSaga, Milfy City, Dating my Daughter. It's still a mistery to me how can both ICSTOR and MRDots render pictures as sharp as they do. I wonder what type of GPU power they have.

Is there any chance that you'll do another game in a female perspective?

That's difficult to say for me. While it is interesting that the main character is a hot gal, I find myself wondering that since she's the main character the story will be told in her POV and she won't be seen as much. And if she's straight that means that I'll have to render much more dudes than I'm comfortable with. The perks of rendering a game with a (straight) male protagonist is that the great majority of the pictures will be of nice ladies. And the ones where there's a nude dude normally there's a nude lady there too. I'm sure compromises will be made when we will make a female protagonist game.

A long question about being banished to a desert island where food and shelter is provided. What 3 things I would bring?

So, I read Tlaero's answer and I'm sorry but I can't use a question like this to introduce some aspects of myself to fans. With a question like this I have to be the most pragmatic I can be. Food and shelter are provided, but water isn't mentioned in the question so my first object would be a seawater desalinization filter with solar panel powered batteries. My second object would be a masterwork Swiss army knife, with a respectable amount of tools. And my third object would be a competent and complete (Army Rangers equivalent) survival manual.

I'll gladly listen to Tlaero playing guitar under the coconut trees but when the typhoon strikes I want to be prepared.

When making our games, what percentage of time is spent writing, programming, and creating pictures?

My job in the team is to provide pictures so most of my time goes into picture-making. It's not only working in DAZ and rendering pictures, much time goes into searching new content, reading forums about techniques to apply, posing scenes and characters.

When will the next Pandora game be finished?

All I can say is that I render pictures everyday. May them be for Pandora or some other game. If Pandora takes more time than expected to be finished it is because I've released something else in the meantime.
