Also, fun fact: the guy who played Edgar throughout the movie is Vincent D'Onofrio. He is a fantastic character actor--I think most people nowadays would recognize him in his role as the villain Kingpin in the Marvel Netflix Daredevil series (along with another series I won't mention that he makes a surprise appearance in--I don't want to spoil it if you're planning to watch the Disney+ MCU series as part of your MCU Mondays).

I enjoyed your reaction to this movie! You were asking what the bug guts were that the guys got slimed with at the end of the movie. It appears it's just...slime lol.
While I was trying to find out for you, I did stumble across this really interesting article about how the scene was filmed, though, including the development of the look of the alien bug. I think one of the reasons the movie holds up so well, despite it being 25 years old, is because it's partially practical effects and partially CGI--Industrial Light and Magic (ILM), which was the movie effects company created by George Lucas, worked on the practical effects, and they do fantastic work (such as with Galaxy Quest, which you need to watch if you haven't seen--it's hilarious and also features the late, great Alan Rickman--and they were involved with a lot of the MCU movies, too.)
