GTROAE Chapter 92: Forgotten Milestone Reward

Chapter 92: Forgotten Milestone Reward

They left Aunt Lisa’s house a little after 3 in the afternoon. Since William was about to get his license next week, he suddenly suggested they visit a car dealership.

As a big city, Riverdale had every car brand you could think of. The sports cars the driver had mentioned earlier could all be found here.

Cynthia didn’t object to William wanting to buy a car, but she made it clear that he shouldn’t buy something overly expensive. Anything over a million would be vetoed by her, even if William paid with his own money.

“You don’t really need a car that much. Besides work, where else do you even go? On weekends you lock yourself in your room working. I don’t think it’s necessary for you to buy a fancy car,” Cynthia explained.

“Of course, I’m not saying you should buy a junk car either. If you like sports cars, you can get an entry-level 718, Mustang, Supra, or AMG. For city commuting, that’s more than enough.”

“Alright then.”

William admitted she had a point. He hardly went out, and for daily work trips, he’d definitely be riding with Cynthia. Buying two cars was just for backup, nothing else.

In the end, after some back and forth, he chose a fully loaded Macan that was already in stock. It was originally ordered by someone who later backed out. The sky-blue exterior with black interior matched the villa’s yard perfectly.

It cost a little over a million. This time Cynthia didn’t object. It was clear she was interested in Porsche herself.

More importantly, William didn’t even have his license yet, so only Cynthia could drive it for now.

From picking the car to paying, the whole process took less than half an hour. Even the sales rep said they broke the store’s record.

They’d go to the DMV on Monday to get the license plate, but for now, the car stayed at the dealership.

“Yo? Something good happen?”

As soon as they got home, Aunt Oliver noticed Cynthia’s good mood.

Cynthia grinned. “Boss bought a new car!”

“Oh? What car?”

Cynthia said excitedly, “A Porsche Macan S!”

“Porsche? That’s over a $140k, right?”

“Yeah, a bit over $140k.”

“Tsk, impressive.” Aunt Oliver gave William a thumbs up.

William felt a little embarrassed by their playful back-and-forth and quickly changed the subject, asking for dinner.

After the meal, William didn’t stay downstairs to watch TV. Instead, he went straight to his room.

He had been holding back earlier in front of others, but now that he was alone, he could no longer contain his excitement.

A Porsche!

That’s the dream car of so many people.

Back when he was just a worker, he didn’t even dare to think about it. Now he just swipes his card easily, and the car is under his (company’s) name. Maybe this is what rich people’s happiness looks like.

To be honest, this was the first time William spent money he earned to enjoy something. Renting a villa didn’t count, because he needed a place to live anyway—he just picked a better one. But buying a car was completely unnecessary, that’s what real enjoyment means.

Even so, William knew clearly that he wasn’t at the stage of enjoying life yet. The road ahead was still long, and there were many things waiting for him to spend money on. With the little assets he had now, it was far from enough.

Keep working hard.

Happy Match Mania: $26.837

Happy Mahjong: $71.856

Happy Landlord: $116.383

On Sundays, players have more time to play games. The profits clearly showed their enthusiasm, and if you checked the average online time from the server, it would confirm it even more.

Since Happy Match Mania passed 100 million downloads, it hasn’t grown much. Players prefer playing with the widget version. Now the total active users were heading toward 500 million, yet the profits still hadn’t improved.

Happy Mahjong’s global release was already set in stone. Both WeChat Games and the Mahjong Association were waiting for March 1st, when there would be massive promotion everywhere.

As for Happy Landlord, since it belonged to WeChat Games, William couldn’t see any backend data or receive any system rewards. He could only guess from the daily revenue share that was sent to him.

Speaking of rewards, William remembered that a few days ago, because of a misunderstanding, he forgot to claim the 100 million milestone rewards for 2048 and Happy Match Mania.

In the end, it was because the earlier milestone rewards for these two games hadn’t been very useful. One was a chicken-rib ability that did instant addition, and the other was useful, but William never even ran into a bug, let alone had the chance to use it.

2048 milestone:

Stage 5: Downloads pass 100,000,000. Reward: [Simple Fusion]

Happy Match Mania milestone:

Stage 5: Downloads pass 100,000,000. Reward: [Remove Bug]

At first, William thought this reward was garbage, but after learning more, he was shocked.

The over-100-million rewards for both games were actually skills. [Remove Bug], as the name suggested, removed bugs. As long as a bug existed in the game, it could be wiped out with one click. But it only removed, not fixed, which meant it would likely leave the game broken and unable to run.

So it seemed pretty useless, and William hadn’t paid much attention to it. After all, the word “bug” hadn’t even appeared in the games he made yet—it was still too early to talk about it.

What truly shocked him was [Simple Fusion]. Don’t be fooled by the word “simple” in the name, its essence was real-life alchemy.

The ability’s description was that you could take any two non-living things and combine them into a new item.

For example, William could combine a monitor and a computer tower, and after fusing, it would become a laptop with the same performance as a desktop.

The weight and size, however, were not controllable. Even with some optimization, the fused laptop was still as heavy and bulky as the original desktop.

Another annoying point was that the fusion couldn’t be undone. In other words, William now had a weird laptop that looked ridiculous.

He also tried fusing some other items in his room, but the results were strange and not really new. On top of that, fused items couldn’t be fused again. The rule was always one plus one.

But right now it was only [Simple Fusion]. Who knew if there would be higher levels in the future—maybe even letting living things fuse? If that happened, William might as well become a biologist.

Another limitation was that the items had to be physical. You couldn’t fuse virtual things in a computer, which otherwise would have been a big help for game development.

That was a bit disappointing, but it didn’t stop William from having fun with it.

If it weren’t for needing to wake up early for work tomorrow, he would’ve already gone out on the streets to look for targets, or gone to the supermarket to buy some interesting stuff to fuse into something even stranger.

Just imagine if two cars were combined together…

William rubbed his hands in excitement, but in the end, it could only stay as a thought. He didn’t want to end up being taken away for research.

As for the ten or so small items in his room that he fused: two books became a thicker book, a cup and a coaster became a cup with a built-in coaster, a pillow and pillow core became a pillow you couldn’t take apart… These could at least be explained.

This skill had opened a new door for William. From now on, when he designed wild and creative things, he would have a new reference point.
