Story time: how I create this project
Added 2024-08-10 12:05:40 +0000 UTCHi everyone,
I decided to share some insights on how I create this visual novel project:
First, I think of the story in general terms, including characters, events, situations, and specific scene ideas.
Then, I use OneNote to organize these ideas into plot points, put them in order, and split them into scenes.
After that, I focus on each scene specifically and write the dialogue between characters. Since English is not my native language, I run the text through ChatGPT to correct spelling and wording.
I turn the dialogue into code using Visual Studio, adding other coding functionality like choices, point updates, and other effects.
I start creating images to illustrate the dialogue. For this, I use Daz3D and GIMP. Setting up a scene in Daz3D takes me 2-3 hours depending on the complexity. Since my computer is not that powerful, it usually takes 2-3 hours to render normal scenes and 5-7 hours to render HD images and scenes with many characters.
Then, I add the rendered and corrected scenes into Visual Studio and test the game in Ren'Py.
After this, I work on corrections. Sometimes images just aren't good enough or have errors in positioning, so they need to be recreated. Sometimes the story doesn't add up and needs to be changed.
During my vacation, I could create 4-6 images per day, but on regular working days, it's 1-2 images if I have time to work on this project.
To promote my work, I post one random image from the game on DeviantArt once a week, and from time to time, I create unique character renders specifically for you, my supporters.
Cheers!
