Added 2025-05-17 13:38:06 +0000 UTCTechniques of the 1880’s collide here with a 1980’s aesthetic in this appropriation of Mike Mansfield’s music video “Private Life” with the iconic model Grace Jones. Not sure what the 2nd layer will bring forth but I’m liking this scrubby effect of the paint on a light yellow ground, oil on wood. This work will be exhibited this summer in NYC.

I adore the play between opaque and translucent in this. For me it's a declaration that it is a painting...a creation displaying the desires/interests/aims of its creator. Work like that really engages me and is something I don't find natural to achieve in my own practice, but I'm working on it. A question about the source... what is the "art world's" take on appropriation of images from movies, commercial imagery, etc. Thanks. I'm really enjoying your patreon.
