Spending my evening with rub and buff!

I was just getting mocked for the fact I am sitting testing my selection of new wax pastes - so I thought I'd share for morale support! I mean, it's a perfectly reasonable way to spend my Sunday night!! 😂😂

This is really cool stuff actually, just rub it onto a 3d print or other material, give it a buff and 'poof!' it looks like metal! Buff it to make it more and more shiny - very cool stuff!!

I'll be featuring it in an upcoming video!!

PS I do need to work out how to get it off the hearth...... 😇

What do you mean, I was watching it with my kids just a few months ago!! Timeless! (They're all watching Cobra Kai now which features much of the same cast)

Probably going to show my age here. But remember the wise words of Mr Miyagi in karate kid "wax on wax off"

I love that rub-n-buff finish. I don't have much occasion to use it, but for certain items it fantastic. I finished a couple of knockers with it once. Here's one of them: https://ericschreiber.com/photography/images/knockers.jpg

Interesting! I'm going to definitely have to get some to experiment with! Will watch for your video as well.

Me too, I just ordered a load - it's a rub on wax finish - so super easy to apply, but gives a really realistic metallic finish. Unlike paint it doesn't dribble or need to dry, so a really nice finish to work with! I'm doing lots more exploring with it, so watch out for a future video on 3d print finishing!

So... What *is* this stuff? Never heard of Rub and Buff before. Very interesting!

Greg Staten

I've never thought to rub some paint on my prints. Thanks for that great idea! 😘

Marc Radermacher

Great idea!! He'll never notice!

Ooh that's beautiful!! The statue I printed is in Cornwall and of King Arthur, but love this one too!

Exactly right Bazza - I'll just use spray clear coat on this to seal it in and I can pick satin, high gloss or whatever for my finish. Really impressed at this stuff

Wax so it'll melt in heat, but does it melt quicker than PLA? :D It comes out in a really nice finish, can you apply a coating to it, like varnish or epoxy, to seal it and add some shine (if you want it to look extra shiny)?

Bazza McSpleen

Very impressive!

That statue reminded me of the one of Llewellyn ap Gryffydd at Llandovery - https://maps.app.goo.gl/cWGpqgwNotQQsCTR6

I was thinking of grabbing my heat gun! Although given the fire is on at the moment, I might just leave it and test in a bit!!! 😂

I have a few tubes of that somewhere. I’ll have to dig them out and have a play.

Perfectly normal way to spend a Sunday evening, Katie. Might have to just go all the way on the hearth, though. “What do you mean, honey? The hearth has always been bronze. You insisted on a bronze hearth.”

Rub and buff is sooo useful. It's wax based, so hot water or heat should get it off most things.

Ryan Russell

That looks great!
