Comments

So glad that you discovered Huahua❤️

Debbie Qin

Sorry 🤭 of course you are right about Qi-Tian 🤣

Rosa

I gave him 7P as live performance too (as single song reaction). :-) Can´t wait for him to check it out. The song Qi Tian is not on this album. But a great song which Hua Chenyu composed for the movie Wukong about the Monkey King. The live version from Singer 2018 is amazing.

HuaHua as it is called by the Chinese music industry and fans, the Martians. He is an incredible performer, the master of harmonies, philosophical lyrics full of meaning and Chinese symbolism. Music and words that heal the minds, that encourage us to fight for our ideals just as he fought for his ideals. A complete artist that you need to enjoy at shows. I was in Beijing last September and watched Mars concerts at the Birds Nest stadium and thought I was dreaming, it was unbelievable and unforgettable. 100,000 Martians orderly chanted with HuaHua. Please continue with 7 Personalities or Madhouse or Qi Tian from the same album

Rosa

I finally got to sit down and watch this with you. I’ve been following Hua Hua for sometime now and discovered him because of Dimash. Completely different but each is unique and truthful to themselves. Hua has a lot more rock / metal in him but always a masterful story teller. Composing, instrumentalist and ground breaking in his approach. I knew you’d be surprised by him. He’s quite the musical genius.

Dena Currie

Gracias por tu reacción pero ver a Hua Hua cantar las canciones, ver sus expresiones, sus movimientos escénicos es maravilloso. Eso me hubiera gustado ver😞. 🌺🌺❤️

Here are some suggestion: 1) You should do 2 reactions in the same video for Chenyu (because they are short)- his 'Aliens' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9G9DG6c3-z4. (3 minutes only- from The Comming One show). Powerful! and his 'Folding' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXy8OcCSoKk. (3 minutes only). Mesmerizing! You can see 2 different sides of him in the same reaction video and they are only 3 minutes each. 2) Chenyu's 'Qi Tian' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkgexVQ-JHc&pp=ygUTcWkgdGlhbiBzaW5nZXIgMjAxOA%3D%3D. (Singer 2018) Epic! 3) Chenyu's 'When The Whole World Forgets Me' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3C5ek_HRSaY. (Mars Concert 2023) Melancholy. 4) "Dear Friend" Hua Chenyu https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blTLEe3ZQvc. (The Next season 2) Emotional. 5) Hua Chenyu "Fake Monk + pre-performance interview" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNqlEUDss7Y&pp=ygUsSHVhIGNoZW55dSBmYWtlIG1vbmsgYW5mIHByZS1zdGFnZSBpbnRlcnZpZXc%3D. (Singer 2018) Hauntingly beautiful.

Martian

Actually I have been looking into the career paths of dimash and chenyu, they are both very similar and sometime identical: 1) for dimash you have sayings/adjectives/descriptive words/nicknames etc...like...: > dimashed > dimashified > best voice in the world > best vocalist > an alien > voice of god > voice of an angel > man with 6 octaves > best singer in the world > became a star after singing 1 song in China > can hit every note > music genius for chenyu you have sayings/adjectives/descriptive words/nicknames etc...like...: > huamazing > huamazed > inspiring artist > bruce lee of music > master of songs > unique artist > music genius > otherworldly > multi-dimensional artist > a true artist > sold out concerts for 10s of thousands in minutes and seconds > huahua genre 2) dimash has dears chenyu has martians 3) 2018- dimash won 'best singer of the year' award and chenyu won 'most infuential musician of the year' award 4) they are both good looking 5) in singer 2017 in the 1st 4 episodes, dimash got 2 number 1 ranked performances back to back and then the next 2 were in the top 3 and dimash got a 6th ranked and a 5th ranked and the rest were all in the top 3 in the later episodes, same with chenyu in singer 2020. 6) dimash took 2nd place in singer 2017 but was viewed as the the real winner. same with chenyu in singer 2018. 7) they both can play instruments 8) they both have their own little symbol: dimash- the dq symbol (look it up) chenyu- the upside down triangle symbol (look it up) 9) both, dears and martians want dimash and chenyu to perform together 10) dimash's version of 'sinful passion' was dimash's 2018 most interesting song and 'bullfighting' was chenyu's 2018 most interesting song

Martian

Thankz John, for reacting to Chenyu! Love your reaction! Chenyu likes to perform live more than making music videos. chenyu= david bowie dimash= freddie mercury

Hopefully 1 day we will!

Martian

Hi, Quinberg! Hopefully I'll see you on Mars!

Barbara Kangas

Hey Barbara Kangas, I'm Quinberg (facebook). Thankz for your post! You are so lucky to be able to attend the mars concerts.

Martian

Hi, I'm new to you but excited to see your appreciation of Hua Hua! I'm really looking forward to seeing you react to his performances. You can find subtitled performances/interviews, etc on the YouTube channel Hua Chenyu Eng Subs. You should be able to react to concert videos without a problem on YouTube. Actually seeing him perform is out of this world. Onstage, he owns it! He performs with abandon. Off-stage, he will livestream with Martians, no stage make-up, no star presence, just Hua Hua talking and laughing about funny things that happened during the show. In the live performances, you will also see that he does not remain stagnant. His music changes, his appearance changes. We never know what to expect. A little background...Hua Hua had a difficult childhood. His parents divorced when he was around 2 or 3 and his father was away for work for long periods. He rarely saw his mother. He was bullied and beaten up when he was young and developed extreme social anxiety. He stayed in his house by himself most of the time. His father bought him a piano and music became his salvation. He said he would "ragingly" play the piano and sing, but wouldn't let anyone hear. Eventually, he studied music in school and there are some videos of a very shy and awkward Hua Hua singing onstage. Word got out about his singing and soon talent shows came knocking on his door. He refused. He didn't seek the limelight. In fact, he avoided it. One particular show, Superboys, lured him in promising good food. There's a history of Hua Hua and his love for food. 😅 He auditioned. Two of the judges thought he was a lunatic but the 3rd judge, Laure Shang, said he was a genius. They passed him through the audition. During the show, he began to get attention from fans. That was awkward for him, plus he said they liked him but he couldn't repay them. He tried to quit the show and the producers brought in a psychologist to talk with him through the night. They convinced him to stay telling him to just get through the show and not to worry because once the show was over, he wouldn't be famous. That was then. This is now. He's played at China's Olympic Stadium and sold out over 100,000 seats 2 days in a row in 3 seconds. When tickets go on sale, there is a battle to get one. There are always thousands of Martians who were unable to get tickets, but come anyway and gather outside to listen. I live in California and I'm writing this from my hotel room in Nanchang having just attended two Mars Concerts. In the past 14 months, I've flown to Wuhan, Beijing, Guangzhou, Yantai, and now Nanchang, just to attend his concerts. I'll be back in a couple of weeks for another. The concerts are never the same. We just don't know what we're going to get but it's always amazing. Hua Hua wrote a song named Let's Go Watch the Sunrise Together. It's part of his Hope album and was written as he was recovering from depression (some of the music you listened to here is about his depression). During a livestream, a Martian asked if we could watch the sunrise together. It took almost 3 years, but this past May, we gathered together on a beach in Yantai at 3am and sang the sun out. Hua Hua credits the Martians for helping him come out of his shell. Hua Hua said that Martians understood him and gave him space. Now, Hua Hua says that standing on a concert stage surrounded by Martians, is where he feels safe. I hope you can watch the teaser for Conversations with Martian Children, where Hua Hua sat down with a group of Martians and wrote down the statements he sang in the song, and Martians replied, creating the song together. Then I hope you will watch Conversations With Martian Children again and you will understand the full meaning of this song for Hua Hua and for Martians. Well, that was long-winded! Looking forward to more Hua Hua reactions. ❤️

Barbara Kangas

thank you for the amazing reaction! Hua Chenyu is my favorite artist and although his lyrical video songs are also very amazing, however, for Hua Chenyu I suggest watching the live performances because he is one of the artist that is better live than studio :D I can't wait to see your next reaction to Hua Chenyu's live performances and concert!!

vier

Watch them privately? No, no, we want to see your reactions to the live performances please :-). Reactions to Mars concert videos are normally no problem to upload to Youtube. But videos of the TV shows oftentimes get blocked. Like from Singer 2020 for example. You can get it up by using a filter maybe.

Lots of things to touch on. :-) While he has performed several covers over the years, all of the songs on this album are originals, and yes, he does write all of his own music. However, he works with someone else for the lyrics because he says he doesn't have the vocabulary for that. His lyrics are often very spiritual and deep, so if you start listening to more of his work, you have to pay attention. He once described the process by saying that when he writes the music, he also writes down keywords, ideas, or a few thoughts about what he's trying to say in the song, and then sends it off to his primary lyricist, Pei Yu. After one or more back and forth sessions with her, he sends it to his producer, Bernard Zhang, for final touchups. The demos used to be more raw, so Bernard was more involved, but Bernard has since said that HCY will often send him a full-fledged song that just needs to be tweaked a bit before being laid down in tracks. HCY does most of the arranging on his songs, but Bernard also does some if a song is being performed with a larger ensemble than usual. There are live performance videos of all of these songs on YT of course, but unfortunately, many of them don't have subs. I was able to find subbed live concert performance versions of all of the songs except Bullfighting. The version of that one listed below is from Singer 2020 and doesn't have subs, but since you have the lyrics available for that one, you would still be able to follow along with it. I would recommend watching the live performance even without the subs just to see it. He just absolutely owns the stage, as he does in all of them. The other advantage to the concert videos is that he usually gives a little introduction to each song, so you get to see a good bit of his personality. Having said that, I wouldn't recommend reacting/posting to YT for copyright reasons. You could probably get away with doing them on Patreon if you want to, but I'm providing them mainly so you can watch them privately to see him perform live since you mentioned you'd like to see that. The stringed instrument you referred to in Seven Personalities is not a guitar; it's a traditional Chinese multi-stringed instrument called a "guzheng" (pronounced guh-ZHONG), which is a version of a plucked zither. Yes, his fans are called Martians, and "Conversation with Martian Children" is kind of a love letter between them. The video of it below is a live concert version where the *entire* audience sings the call and response with him. It's absolutely magical, and if you don't shed at least a tear or two watching it, you have no heart. ;-) HCY has described "God Tree" and "Arrival" as two parts of the same song, and should be listened to back to back. As you noted, "God Tree" is chaos and destruction, while "Arrival" is redemption and rebirth. Bullfighting, Singer 2020 (no subs): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKwrAvg9c50 I Really Want To Love This World (subs): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6jy92Pjgpg Madhouse (subs) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guz3cQ_o1Vs Conversations with Martian Children (subs): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lvNKjWux7c Seven Personalities (subs) (by far the best version of this one): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_HR6ACvedE God Tree (subs) (you get to see his most recent outdoor concert stage in this one) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBjsOfvuSd4 Arrival (subs): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_eHUUhAoKc New World (subs) (again, by far the best live performance of this one, hands down): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qe3oSD9X-EA

Yes, please check out Hua Chenyu´s live performances too. His Mars concerts are mindblowing. I was at 2 of them in Wuhan last year. Best concerts I have ecer been to. Best stage, Best sound, Best lighting, simply amazing. Hope I can go back to Mars soon. :-)) The song God Tree from this album at the concert I was at https://youtu.be/OBjsOfvuSd4?feature=shared

Hi, I'm new here, so pleased to see you checking out Hua Chenyu, he's been in my top 3 artists for a few years now. You are correct, he is a musician, he plays piano, flute, guitar, drums and a few other instruments, but he has said he sees his voice as just another instrument so uses it that way. He is a very prolific composer, the ideas for the direction of the lyrics are all his, but he says he is not good with words so has lyricists interpret his meanings. You mentioned about the arranger credit, most of his songs are debuted at his concerts before the albums, but he rearranges the songs frequently changing styles and instrumentation. There is a lot of great live footage of his performances out there too, his 5th album Hope (Forget) is also a masterpiece in my opinion,

Michelle (monskling)

Thank you. So happy you liked it this much. Hua Chenyu is amazing. He composed all the songs on this album. For the lyrics he is working very closly together with the lyricists and tells them exactly what he wants to convey in the song. Hua Chenyu also did all the backing vocals for this album himself (except Conversations with martian children). His fanbase is called Martians. His outstanding concerts are called Mars concerts. The first words Hua Chenyu is saying at every Mars concert are "Welcome home". You will love his live performances and Mars concerts. I gave you the song 7 Personalities as live perfomance for this month single song reaction too. :-) Can´t wait for you to watch it. For this years Mars concerts tour he rearranged a lot of his songs into totally different but equallly amazing versions.

Vijandra V

Thank you so much for this full album reaction, that's so nice to hear a singer/musician react to another singer/musician, Hua Chenyu is full of surprises, all his compositions are very unique to him and he can't be boxed in one genre. You never know what you'll get with him, just that it will be great. I kept wanting to see him perform :), Hua Chenyu ( Hua Hua for his fans, the Martians because he's King of Mars lol) is an artist that must be watched performing. So I'm looking forward to your next live performance reactions. Cheers, and thank you Saskia for requesting this reaction!
