Moving to Double-Size Lairs
Added 2019-06-25 20:38:07 +0000 UTCThis June brought the finale for the second Warlock Lair trilogy, and it's a good time to take stock of the series. After 37 installments, we're making some improvements to the format, starting in July. Here's what's coming:
- Designers will be using larger Dyson Logos maps in future Warlock Lairs
- Page count will double for the new Double Lairs (sometimes more)
- Each larger lair will feature twice as much art
- We're doing one double Lair each month, rather than two smaller ones
- The larger Lairs will still be part of every pledge of $3+
The Lairs will continue to include new monsters, items, and NPCs as appropriate for the adventure, and they'll still have a download link to the higher-resolution map from Dyson.
Basically, it's a chance to do a bit meatier material, without burning out the editorial and layout side.
As Warlock is a bit of a design lab and a place to try new things, we want to keep it interesting for us creatively, as well as for patrons. If everyone loves the new style, we'll keep going with it; if there's a hue-and-cry to return to shorter material, we might revisit the tiers a bit and see if we can make it work.
For now: bigger lairs!
