Taylor Swift - Miss Americana

Watching this gave me a new perspective on Taylor Swift !
The guy she talks about falling in love with during this time was actor Joe Alayn. They dated six years.

I’ve been a fan since day one and watching people appreciate Taylor’s talent and mind and long road she’s traveled. It’s been a wild ride as a fan and we’ve been thorough a lot in 18 yrs. I still cannot watch this documentary without crying from sadness but also extreme pride of how she has risen form the ashes over and over and now she is more popular than ever.

I suggest watching Taylor Swift Vs Scooter Braun it really shows how POWERFUL and STRONG Taylor swift is but it also shows how sweet she is!!! They kinda don’t say EVERYTHING about SCOOTER BRAUN about what he did to Taylor but it really shows how much of an impact Taylor has made for the Music Industry to change especially for women!!

Oh Marsha Blackburn knows not to mess with Taylor. Fox News tried to bring her into their crazy conspiracy theories about Taylor and Marsha Blackburn would only say how proud she is to have Taylor’s business based in Tennessee. She knows how powerful Taylor is

Her concerts are so emotional bcus she is so real and brings all of her vulnerability to her fans and the emotion at these concerts is an energy unlike any I’ve felt before. You can’t help but tear up and fall in Love with her. FACTS!!

Random request, you should watch her perform New Year's Day on Fallon live, and the interview after. It's a tear jerker but very sweet. She's also done funny games on the show you would enjoy 😄

One of the worst thing about the whole Kanye thing that no one really talks about is in his famous mv he had made synthetic dolls of different famous people and they were all naked in a giant bed together. Taylor was one of them and she was naked from the waist up. Kim also showed the part of the behind the scenes of the mv on her show. Taylor described it as revenge porn and it basically was.

Love your reactions. You should watch this short video that explains what happened between Taylor, Kanye, and Kim K. They tried to destroy her and other people in the industry got involved too. Scooter Braun, managed Kanye at the time and he also tired to knock her down. Fast forward a few years Scooter buys her master and she is devastated that her life's work is in his hands. Taylor being the fighter that she is started her Taylor's Version project to reclaim her music which is why we have all the re-recordings. She writes about all of this in a lot of her songs and you can totally understand why she hates them after all this.
Relisten to the song Cassandra (based on the Greek myth) with this new information and it hits so much harder.

As for the sexual assault trial… This is why it’s trending right now that women would rather walk in the woods with a bear rather than a man. We stand a chance with a bear. There have been 180 fatal bear attacks in N. America since 1784. We all know stats for male on female assaults in the US. Women are safer with a bear.

Taylor swift is over party was trending on twitter because Kim illegally recorded and edited the phone call kayne west had with Taylor. Making it LOOK like he had asked permission about the song and she basically accepted it. Making everyone spiral saying she was a liar and a fake and evil etc. “playing the victim” as everyone called it

Tay Tay! But also, John... that is simply unacceptable that you experienced such a terrible thing. No one has a right to touch any other body, unless it's their own. Consent is the biggest thing I'm drilling into my boys' heads, because as a woman I also had experienced similar things and it's not gonna happen on my watch dude! People are gross, but you sir, are delightful as usual!

Still early in watching but the reason the very good Reputation album was savaged by critics (at the time, most have changed their minds now) and shunned by The Grammy’s was because the media was still in the hate Taylor backlash started by the awful Kim & Kayne. Who knowns what might have happened to her if her very loyal fans didn’t make the tour and album a massive success. As momentum started to swing back there way, somewhere in camp K&K (likely treated badly) leaked the real taped phone call & them discussing their “trap” to edit it and make her look bad. As awful as all that was, she learned a lot of positive lessons about her own strength and standing up for yourself and others.

tay tay! John! so sorry that this has happened to you... it has happened to me too (sadly multiple times) and let me tell you at first it did not register with me either, I was just annoyed and told my friends and by their reaction it clicked why I was so disgusted...
also, I can totally relate to the hate towards politics... and don't get me wrong, I am deeply interested in political issues, I just resent politicians and the political scene as it is (and I am not only talking about the US, seeing as I am not american, nor do I live there) -that said, I think standing up for what you believe in is important, and I think Taylor was just choosing the lesser of two evils at this point tbh lol

Ok first I don't think anyone would be mad at you for having your own opinion on the victim aspect. I am a therapist and have worked with victims of sexual assault and I think it is so brave and awesome of you to speak up for men who are sexually assaulted because so often men are afraid to speak up for fear of not being believed. I am sorry that happened to you! Thank you for doing this reaction. I have been a fan of Taylor since her first album in country, I do like country music and that is when I first started to appreciate her music; I did not follow all things she had gone through, I just liked her music. When it started to shift to pop, I admit I was confused and not sure how to adjust or accept it. Reputation was so confusing to me. When the pandemic hit, I was working long hours and had disconnected from all entertainment; I had no idea about this documentary, and no idea about her assault during the Red Era; I did wonder about a possible eating disorder as that is one of my specialty areas as a professional; and I had no idea she had written 2 pandemic albums (folklore/evermore). Once she came out with Midnights and announced The Eras Tour, I was re-connected, but had a lot to catch up on. We got lucky enough to get tickets to the Sofi show in LA. I watched this documentary in 2022 while catching up with folklore and evermore. I am glad I watched the doc because I could not understand why she became so heavily involved in politics. It has been so educational for me. It helped me understand her shifting genres of music as well. I understand now. I think she is a brave human for using her platform and status to speak up for those that do not feel like they can. I am glad you spoke up about the fact she does not think any man could understand what she went through. But she is speaking from her experience. Our culture makes it challenging for men to speak up as you pointed out with Brendan Fraser's experience of not being believed. So I will stop writing now, but just had to say I appreciate your authenticity in your reactions and sharing your story, I hope more men and also anyone who does not identify with any specific gender (I am still learning too) can do so as well. 🙏

every time it gets to the part where she says “this is one my last opportunities to grasp onto that kind of success” i tear up because taylor 5 years ago had NO IDEA the way her records, fan base, tour, albums, etc would jump even more exponentially and i. impossible ways. so proud of her

This isn't super important, but to the opening little bit about misconceptions/preconceived notations regarding Taylor, I thought it'd be interesting to add a bit of context. Her dad definitely isn't/wasn't a multi-millionare, but he was a stock broker, and her mother also worked in finances. Taylor wasn't a nepo baby by any means, but her family was definitely well enough off to be able to give her access to things from an early age that allowed her to hone her craft as a singer and songwriter, such as making various trips from Pennsylvania out to Nashville to meet with record labels before eventually moving out there.
I think it's definitely worth remembering that Taylor's ability to get a foot in the door of music was not achieved just by raw talent and determination alone, and that money and privilege absolutely played key roles in kickstarting her career, but that it also doesn't discredit the genuine talent and passion that she's showcased both before getting a record deal and ever since. She's always been someone driven by a love of storytelling and performing, and when she'd get criticism early on in her career, she'd take it to heart and work hard to better herself. When people thought she didn't sing well live, she put in the time and effort to practice. When people thought her albums were getting too chaotic and incohesive, and she lost AOTY for Red at the Grammys, she took it to heart and made sure that 1989 was a sonically cohesive pure pop record. And so much of this documentary really shows that its her drive for evolution and growth that keeps her so relevant and beloved, and that even if she hadn't come from a family that had the money to support her dreams, she probably would have made it here regardless.

During covid I came across a lot of reactors giving all sorts of music a chance. With Taylor I see people come in with preconceived headlines but if they come in and give her music a chance and an open mind they see the talent. So appreciate your time and obvious love for music.

I disagree. It's not inevitable at all. Taylor's personality and psychological make up is different to Madonna's. She lost her Mother at a young age, had an emotionally distant Father and if you watch Madonna's own pop star documentary from the 90s, she comes across incredibly entitled, arrogant, narcissistic and mean. And I'm a 50 year old woman that grew up loving her musical achievements. Ageing seems to have been a major challenge to her self-esteem whereas I believe Taylor will have more peace with it. I predict she'll be more like Joni Mitchell and Stevie Nicks in her older years.

kim k released that edited video we saw of kanye “getting her approval” and when taylor said actually no i’m not ok with any of this kanye never told me the full extent” everyone called taylor a liar. the truth eventually came out proving taylor right but the damage and trauma but also consequent resurrection of taylor’s career was already done

1. her touring band has been with her since her first headlining tour back in 2009, her backup vocalists who you recognize from eras tour joined a little later but has performed with her on every tour since as well.
2. her apartment in nyc is huge and unfortunately not gated etc so it's easily accessible to fans with no boundaries
3. in the simplest of terms with the kanye situation he dropped a song where he shit talked her and claimed he had permission from her. she came forward saying he didn't and kim and kanye released a vid showing the phone conversation. it wasn't till way later on where the whole conversation was leaked showing kim and kanye edited the video to their benefit. however bc of the og video people called her a liar and a snake. thousands of people hated on her just bc they could. she went into hiding for almost a year and even then there was very little of her in the public eye until she started promoting her album "reputation".
4. jack has been a producer on every one of her albums since 2014 when she came out with "1989"

I saw the notification and jumped on it yaaay!!
The award she won at the VMAs was voted on by fans he soooo did not make her famous
I don’t know why they didn’t talk about it in this but after he interrupted her, he won a vanguard award at the VMAs and he demanded that Taylor present it to him and when she did, he said that MTV did it for ratings
He also publicly apologized to her and then took it back publicly and said that his team made him do it, and then the phone call thing happened he filmed the call where he claims he asked her for permission to put that line in the song but he didn’t and she didn’t approve that she had approved I think some kind of promotion for him but Kim had the recording edited and someone on Kim or Kanye’s team released the original recording that vindicated Taylor but no one made a big deal about it then 😕He was obsessed with her, and Kim was dragging her to hell on twitter
