Love Crow dog, so cute!

Sharon

Peter!

Erika

Peter. I love her 1989 tour and think you would enjoy it.

Cassandra

And references Cassandra from Greek mythology. She had the gift of prophecy but was cursed in that no one believed her.

Cassandra

ayyyy my hometown is gulf shores, al which is right next to orange beach!

mtvcribbs

something a lot of people don't give taylor enough credit for is her humor. She's so funny and clever in her lyrics and songwriting and this album especially has lots of sarcastic lyrics especially in "but daddy i love him" and "who's afraid of little old me"

mtvcribbs

Clara Bow in my opinion is how there will always be someone who is the next big thing… like when Stevie was coming up, they would be saying you look just like Clara Bow, and then when Taylor was coming up, they would say to her you look like the next Stevie Nicks, and now the new generation… you look just like Taylor Swift. The cycle will always start over, they’ll tell you how you are like them but the new and improved version… just my thoughts

Andrea Hill

So High School is all references to her relationship with Travis Kelce

julie rickert

I think it is kind of narrow-minded to chalk "Clara Bow" up to some sort of beef between Taylor and Olivia Rodrigo. One of the best reactions I have seen to this song was on the Chats and Reacts channel. I think they got the idea behind the song perfectly. It's a commentary on the industry and how as new girls come along, they are flattered and cajoled in order to turn them into cash cows, but only for so long as they retain their youthful and glamorous appeal, and then it is on to the next one. Taylor was no doubt subjected to this kind of flattery when she was starting out, back when she felt like it might never happen for her. The introspective moment in the song comes in the last verse, when she invokes her own name, recognizing that she is now the one used to convince newcomers to the industry to "give everything" and "promise to be dazzling."

Tom Enrico

Peter :)

Heather M

Since you were such a fan of Whos Afraid of Little Old Me I highly suggest you look at her performance of it on the Eras Tour! She added it to the setlist after the album released and its absolute perfection and embodies the song perfectly! Its now my favorite performance at the Eras Tour!

Kathryn Howell

Peter!

Peter!!!

Andrea Russell

Cassandra is referring to the Kardashians and Kanye and how they tried to ruin her career and everyone was quite when the truth came out.

Dawn Landrum

Yes, I totally agree. There are also a few "The Making of a Song" videos. I think you did one on YouTube. I believe there are about 5 total.

Allie Marie

Patti Smith when inducted in rock and roll hall of fame https://youtu.be/2n6Ncrv9Kyg?si=UYSm_LiDTV-j69kU

Jellybean

Exactly! It’s just about the industry and how they treat women.

Amy

She dated Joe (British man hence so long London) for 6 years thought he was the one and then they broke up. The news came out while she was on tour in Texas and then the media ran with it when she went to Florida (why we got the song Florida) and got with Matt Healy (a guy who everyone didn’t like including her family meaning but daddy I love him) this is all rumored but I follow her pretty close 😂 the I can do it with a broken heart is her going through the break up while performing the eras tour. Now she’s happy with Travis the football player (the alchemy and so high school) are about him!

Lexi

I've thoroughly been enjoying your Taylor Swift journey and I look forward to seeing you delve into more! Oh, also, Peter!

Ashley Auker

Delusion! She has called herself out when promoting the album and admitted some delusion in the songs lol

Koreamkimmie

True, I think she was just getting to know Travis, and had done a lot of healing through the tour.

Koreamkimmie

The assumption is that most of this is about past relationships she would like to close chapters too. She was with British actor Joe Alwyn for about 6 years....he was the one she moved to London with when the kanye/Kim stuff went down. Many of these sound like in reference to Joe, they broke up last April as she was starting her Eras Tour; she changed up the set list when it was confirmed. You can see her crying on stage singing "Lover" and "Champagne Problems" which I believe those show were in Florida!!!. Then the assumptions were that she hooked up with Matty Healy from the band 1975 for possibly a "fortnight?" Again these are theories...."So Long London" being track 5, supposed to be the saddest tractk....she is saying "Goodbye" Also "I Cab Do it With a Broken Heart!" makes sense too,

Koreamkimmie

Please do Evermore and Folklore next!! I am convinced you will love them!!!!

Anna

Peter!!

I’m sure someone’s already commented about So High School. Aaron Dessner purposely produced that song to sound like you were picked up and placed back in the late 90s/early 2000s, I believe. I’m near Taylor’s age and music from my middle/high school years sounded just like this (early Avril Lavigne, Michelle Branch) and it sounds like it could be influenced by Teenage Dirtbag types of songs as well. The intro music immediately took me way back and I think that’s why it’s so different than the others. It’s kinda genius!

Taylor Golmon

PETER. ;) If you’re doing Miss Americana, I’d follow it up with reputation album then the rep tour followed by the Lover album watch. All tell the complete story of the docu. After that maybe red (taylor’s version) then diving into the All Too Well lore- Short Film and the making of. Maybe follow with 1989 (Taylor’s version) then the world tour…..then Fearless and Speak Now. Pshew…so much!! We haven’t even talked about all the epic videos. There are still 2 more albums- midnights and her debut (‘I’d wait for the re-record release)

amy coleman

i’m also in recovery (6 months) and i just wanna say you should be proud and you’re right about getting clean needing to be for you not others 💕

Cristina

also, it actually is a breath of fresh air to have someone listen to this without trying to assign each to a muse because her songwriting is brilliant and it’s reductive to make her art all about the men she allegedly dated — like truly this has been my favorite review yet!

Cristina

these feelings here go with clara bow because she’s making a commentary on the toxicity of the music industry especially to up and coming young women, so every generation of “it girls” have to put on the same show and will be discarded as soon as the girlish glow of the current one starts showing they’re used and beaten down so they can dazzle the public but are discarded just as quickly

Cristina

“i can do it with a broken heart” is seriously one of the coolest song concepts bc the lyrics are so devastating (especially with having the eras tour in the lyric video) while presenting this upbeat bop — it’s a literal musical embodiment of what she’s talking about: that she puts on a happy front, but in reality she’s going home and is incredibly depressed. she does this in “death by a thousand cuts” on lover (among many times in her discography). tldr; she’s writes devastatingly beautiful lyrics to shake ass music as a mask so she doesn’t show just exactly how miserable she is 🌟🕺🥲💃🫤🕺🔪💃🌟

Cristina

I feel like Clara Bow is definitely a commentary on how the industry treats bright new starlets. “Oh you look like this amazing person, you’re the breath of fresh air this industry needs, you’re authentic and we love that!” A new girl is introduced and all of these are said to her to get her to be the shiny new thing until she’s not interesting anymore and they copy and paste to the next. Clara Bow was the it girl actress in the early 20th century, Stevie Nicks was as well in her prime, and now people grew up getting inspired and looking up to Taylor and she’s the modern day equivalent.

Emiii 🫶🏾

It’s so fun getting to see you appreciate music you never expected to even enjoy! If you listen to this album on Amazon music there are some short voice notes from Taylor about certain songs and their inspiration. Genius usually also gives a brief (alleged) description of the songs.

Jessica Weed

For the question from 1:00:48, there’s a video titled “Taylor Swift being a songwriting genius for 13 minutes” that I think would be really interesting for you and would give you a good idea of how her songwriting process works!

Emiii 🫶🏾

I think by the time Eras was filmed at SoFi she was less brokenhearted (but still in some pain)! The first song of Folklore was Invisible String (an 'it's fate' song about her and Joe) and two weeks in she shifted it to The 1. There's some fan footage of her crying during Lover after the breakup, too. So while the best footage of her on Eras is filmed for the movie, and that's what she uses here, I do think she felt *better* by the time we see her in LA. I'd like to think she wouldn't want to negate the fun everyone had at the concert, or the money spent-- and IDK, as a shrewd businesswoman, I don't think she wants people who come to the Eras dates after TTPD to worry that they've hurt her by attending, if that makes sense?

Darsy Smith

Agreed! I think it’s difficult to make a cohesive album when you’ve had three very different relationships since the last new album release. Most of the songs are about her two last relationships (Matty and Joe) but she snuck a Travis song in there. Totally different guy and different vibe lol

Hannah

The sounds you’re drawn to, when you say you never realized you were into that style of music (from certain songs on this album and on Long Pond Studio sessions), I’m pretty sure those are all Aaron Dessner. She started writing with him for folklore and he’d send her musical tracks that she’d write lyrics and lyrical melodies over. So if you like the instrumental background music on those you should check out his work. Check out albums by The National and also by Big Red Machine if you want more of that (he’s a cofounder of both).

Linds K

Agreed, and whether or not this is how she wrote it, I like to think that the first verse is what they were saying to Stevie Nicks (so they were saying Stevie looks like Clara Bow), then the second verse they said to Taylor Swift (Taylor looks like Stevie), then the last verse is what they’ll say or are saying to the next big star right now.

Linds K

I think Clara Bow is hinting at Olivia Rodrigo but the anger is not directed at her, it is directed at how the industry is manipulating young artists into being like an old icon, but give more, be more edgy, more dazzling... they fill their heads with dreams only to reap the cash basically, and they do not care about the artists themselves... Olivia is a good example of that (she has said herself she has felt exploited). people keep comparing them, because Olivia has said that she admires Taylor and gets inspired by her, but I think she does take it to the next level and is her own artist. ultimately it's a shame that people are still trying to pit them against each other, especially when Taylor is still supportive of her

Eirini

Peter But Daddy I Love Him is a perfect commentary about the media and even fans who have openly criticized her and her dating life and she's saying fuck off, it's my choice who I date. So basically we're all "Daddy" in this song lol. I've heard it compared as the modern day version of her song "Love Story" where sometimes the more people are against the person she's with it pushes her closer to them. In regards to the I Can Do It With A Broken Heart - The film you watched of the Eras Tour was filmed in August when she was doing much better so the specific clips you saw were not the depression she was referencing in the song. At the very beginning of the tour she was going through her breakup with 6 year relationship (Joe Alwyn) and then further into the tour was the relationship and breakup with Matty Heely (who a lot of the songs are about). For Clara Bow - She said she wrote it about the industry in general about how many meetings she would have with people trying to compare her to other (female) artists by criticizing them and kind of putting them down. I take the last part about "You look like Taylor Swift" as what they have/will start saying to the newer artists since the cycle will continue. Even if it is about Olivia, I don't see it in a bad light about her but rather the industry pitting them against each other if that makes sense. thanK you aIMee - Good job finding a Taylor Easter Egg "KIM" on your first go (even if you didn't notice lol).

Talia Adams

who’s afraid of little old me is perfection and also completely self written 😲

madison

Yo Peter! This is a fucking masterpiece, an opus of monstrous proportions in my opinion. I agree that "so high school" stands out because it's joyful and a bit silly in the midst of her heartbreak and torturous feelings- she does it all with intention, very much crafted on purpose. As a side, I love taylor but only got into her during the pandemic with her albums folklore and evermore so certainly not an expert on her, but absolutely a fan of her art. However, I've been a fan of the 1975 for a really long time (the front man is Matty Healy, with whom she had her summer love in 2023)- not only do her lyrics cut deep, but on the songs that seem to be about him, the musicality is SUPER reminiscent of the 1975's sound and I thought that was legit brilliant. Also love the not so subtle remarks to KIM on thanK you aIMee, that was a mess and when allll the info came out proving kim/kanye lied? Silence, no apologies for Taylor and that's not something any person should forgive. So instead she makes music and her enemies' kids sing along to it! Lastly, I think that the guitar style you are loving is def Aaron Dessner's style from the National (he was there for long pond), and he has a child named Robin, so the song may be about his struggles with depression and the lows while being a parent and keeping your kids away from your darkness, that truly speaks to me as a sad girlie with two really wonderful sons holding me down to earth. I could dissect this album and every song for hours with you, truly. I think you're awesome and Lowe's can suck it bro!

NotCaseyKasem

Fortnight is the first song, there's just a music video & a lyric video, The Manuscript is meant to be the end. The final line being "The story isn't mine anymore" is her releasing all of these songs out into the world & letting them go.

Krizten Galiano

Dylan Thomas was a Welsh poet, Patti Smith is an American singer-songwriter

Krizten Galiano

Clara Bow isn't about Olivia Rodrigo, that's fandom nonsense trying to pit them against each other, it's about how pop culture is constantly comparing women (literally the thing the fans that are saying that the song is about Olivia are doing) & always looking for the next new young starlet to chew up & spit out. The verses are each things that would have been said to up & coming women in different generations. The final verse is a foretelling of what's probably happening to young girls trying to enter the music industry now.

Krizten Galiano

peter!!

lillian!!

Listening party in Nashville?!? This is my favorite album, wow

Meredith Mettetal

Clara Bow is a commentary on this industry where the wealthy suits of LA will pitch to young vulnerable girls that they can become the next big thing, like the next “Taylor Swift” and Taylor is recognizing she is becoming one of those references now, and has mixed emotions because she knows how much the industry expects these girls to sacrifice of themselves for that chance at fame and glory.

Woo hoo lol

Thank you for appreciating her story telling talent. I listen to her music and cant help remember my own experiences. My memories come flooding back to me.

Yo!SamitySam!

Peter! Awesome reaction. I'm so glad that you decided to continue checking out Taylor's stuff. I appreciate the attention you're paying to her lyrics and her music. She is a great storyteller for sure.

ALK

Would love Taylor album reactions. Just fyi she has lyric videos for all her recent albums and any she’s re-released as a (Taylor’s Version). Looking forward to this!

Tiffany

Peter! I loved your reaction to this! It makes me sad that so many people are complaining that this album is not “pop-y” enough. It’s so beautiful. So High School does stick out like a sore thumb which I think is purposeful- it’s about her current BF Travis and how giddy and young he makes her feel which lifted her out of the dark place she’d been. Doesn’t make me care for the song that much more but I appreciate the theory of it. I was a Taylor ignorer (not a hater just didn’t pay any attention) due to her pop radio hits like Shake it Off which I found incredibly annoying. I watched Miss Americana randomly last summer and gained so much respect for her as a person and artist which sent me down her rabbit hole of music. I’m a fan now. However the style of So High School is exactly what kept me from checking her out for so long. I’m loving the mature sound of this album. The ending of The Manuscript almost sounds like a goodbye to me. Which makes me think there may be a big change up for Taylor’s next album… I’ll be interested to see what’s next.

Whisper_dvm

I haven’t finished the video yet but loving how through every song you’re slowing coming to realize Taylor is the absolute lyrical QUEEN of the bridge!!

Jewlee Nelson

For sure! I was convinced all of loml was Matty but after watching Ally Sheehan's video today I am back to thinking maybe it's both? I FIRMLY believe that a ton of the Matty songs could have been Track 5 but that was always reserved for Joe, heh.

Darsy Smith

Peter! I haven’t actually watched the lyric videos yet because they were released a bit after the album. She always has such great lyric videos, we shouldn’t take them for granted. It gives such a good perspective on them too and probably how she meant for them to be interpreted. this album is so raw and honest, I honestly don’t know how people can come from this album and not love it all for the singing poetry that it is.

Jenny V

I think So High School WILL be a single because it's Travis's song. And I think it's completely different because when she's with him, she's not in the tortured poets department

Amanda M.

The assumption is about ex Bf Joe Alwyn, British actor; they were dating when the Kim and Kanye drama when down; she moved to London for a year to my understanding (So Long London).; The news broke last April while she performed in Florida!!!, and you can see her tearing up during Lover and Champagane problems. No concrete evidence of him cheating as media is saying; they could have just grown apart. :(. You are spot on so far!!

Koreamkimmie

I was waiting for it! got home from work and I'm gonna watch your reaction and chill! You are awesome!

Renata Oliveira

Clara Bow! While I think Taylor might very well be referencing OR, she's not saying anything shady! I think maybe she's drawing a comparison on how Stevie was compared to Clara, Taylor was compared to Stevie, and now OR has been compared to Taylor "but edgier". People speculate there's drama but I think most of its manufactured by some wisps of smoke from a few years ago, but there's never been any sight of fire with that smoke to my knowledge. OR openly admired TS for years and has been much quieter regarding it since blowing up, so who knows. I can love them both!

Amanda M.

As a swiftie all my online friends are swifties and they gathered that loml is about Matty (her brief summer 2023 romance), fresh out the slammer is about matty, the title track, i can fix him, the smallest man who ever lived, guilty as sin, but daddy i love him are all about Matty Healy. so long london and i can do it with a broken heart are about Joe. but the thing is, I think she wrote these songs as they can be applied to both Matty and Joe at the same time cause they both hurt her the most. so it's kinda cool

Tal

Taylor about ‘Clara Bow’: “I used to sit in record labels trying to get a record deal when I was a little kid. And they'd say, 'you know, you remind us of' and then they'd name an artist, and then they'd kind of say something disparaging about her, 'but you're this, you're so much better in this way or that way.' And that's how we teach women to see themselves, as like you could be the new replacement for this woman who's done something great before you”. Taylor was told she could be the next Clara Bow, Stevie Nicks, etc. when coming up in the industry, and now people are telling the next generation of female artists that they can be the next Taylor Swift.

Bri

OH and I should add, because I hadn't seen the lyric videos yet: in her Instagram post when the album went live, she said, "This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page." The lyric video for So Long London has a background effect of ink dropping and being absorbed by the page, and it looks a lot like tears, too. I think it's both.

Darsy Smith

She is not, in fact, with the person she wrote the songs on Lover (and Reputation, and some on subsequent albums) about. They broke up in early 2023; he's a really private person and many of the songs on TTPD reference his depression (personally I think he realized that her fame and his privacy wouldn't reconcile and it made him spiral) and her feelings of freedom once the relationship was over. One song on Lover is 'London Boy' about First Guy, so the song So Long London is a direct reference to that. There are two 'lead up' songs ostensibly on Midnights that are about the breakdown of their relationship, You're Losing Me and Hits Different. Hits Different ends with 'have they come to take me away' and Fortnight starts with 'they forgot to come and get me!' She had a brief relationship with a musician after that (a fortnight is 2 weeks long, it was just about that short), and given the lyrics on TTPD, it seems that she had a flame for the guy for a while and saw the breakup as her chance. I won't go into specifics but he's controversial, to the point where some fans created a movement called Speak Up Now (a play on her album Speak Now) to demand she dump him for the sake of her reputation. TBH, I can't decide whether she wrote most of this album for the Second Dude because she continued to keep a lot of First Dude's stuff private (except for his depression/not fighting for the relationship), or because she thought the best revenge for not loving her enough was to have the breakup album be about her rebound.
