BABYMETAL - TOKYO DOME - RED NIGHT

Comments

Finally i catched this reaction. Awesome! But please, PLEASE, PLEASE watch Tokyo Dome Black Night too!! It's even better than this! It may involve crosses...eheh

BEBIMETARU_BIO-METAL

The setlist from black night is way better, please, watch the second night too.

Victor Silva

Totally unrelated and I’m sorry for that but when are we expecting the TTPD album reaction? If you’re still doing it that is :)

John, early on: impressed by how technical proficient they are. Me, knowing tale of the destinies is 40m in the future...: 😂

Rob C

Very fun John. Was waiting impatiently for you to get to this concert.

Su falls in this concert. She slips and falls at the end of Black Night when they are walking out to do the "we are" call and response. It is edited out of the bluray.

(Sorry for the incohesive comment, I'm editing this as I'm watching). The fact that there were less than three years between their first album release and this show is mind blowing. Another thing that's crazy is how much effort they must put into adjusting the choreography for every particular stage setup. Especially on a stage this big with so many levels and rotating parts etc, there is so much that must be accounted for. I think you have seen Syncopation before in a previous reaction, and I think you praised it as well. The solo in this version is so perfect in every way, the tone, the melody, the phrasing... Ohmura is a fantastic guitarist. I totally agree about Rondo of Nightmare. The chorus has one of the most beautiful melodies ever. It's quite complex, but that haunting dark atmosphere is so tense and beautiful. I can't believe you have never seen Tales of the Destinies. That's usually one of the first songs that get recommended to musicians, especially guitarists. That transition into The One is such a powerful moment. It makes me cry every time. I can't even imagine what it must have been like for the girls. All three of them can be seen having an emotional moment over the course of the show, BTW. Yui falling off the stage was at Budokan Red Night.

If you mean that Vince bloke, I can't imagine he has any friends, he's completely off his trolley and his silly hats are lined with tin foil.

They put studio track on some official live video is idiot

Lol I agree. Su has always sang live. She did use some tracking earlier on, but that’s diminished over the years as she improved and matured as a vocalist. Only exception is for her mimed harsh vocals and the very rare occasion for effects heavy vocal moments. Both of which you can easily tell. Moa’s vocals has had an increase in track usage over the years, but I assume it’s due to Yui’s departure, and Moa having to do both their lines, along with choreography. With Momo’s inauguration (and having a mic), we’ll see how this will change. Either way, Babymetal’s track usage has never overpowered their actual live, and they’ve been pretty “honest” about displaying it on stage, which I appreciate. 🤘🦊

Can you imagine having to do that kind of choreo on a moving freaking stage? That is nuts in itself. How on earth do they keep their balance. Oh and not only is Syncopation my most favorite song EVER, Song 4 is like the most mind bending song to me and makes me want to rip out my hair and dig at my eyeballs lol - Oh and I second the idea of waiting for the MM blu-rays to release. The WoWoW shows have missing songs.

GoatQI

Yess!! Was waiting for you to get to Tokyo Dome shows, awesome! The Red Night fall off stage incident was Yui at Budokan 2014. Su did slip and fall on her butt at Day 2 - Black Night of Tokyo Dome during the closing segment, but she got up super fast while laughing (edited out in video). She then proceeded to troll Moa in front of 55K fans 🤣. What a champ lol. Tales of the Destines is a straight nod to Dream Theater, and the one and ONLY time Babymetal performed that song live. Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater gave this song his personal thumbs up. When asked if “they had fun” at this performance in an interview, Su said, “Yes! But only after we performed Tales of the Destines without mistakes”. Lol. Space theme - check Lasers - check Perfect choreo to technical AF prog metal - check Babymetal is Borg - confirmed. Also, Amore is awesome. Angelic, operatic ballad opening… aaaand speed metal. My kind of love song. Look forward to your Tokyo Dome Black Night reaction!! 🤘🦊

WRT tracks. Well, the vocal fill tracks were quite prominent earlier in their career. For example listen to when SU goes 'off script' @~6:44 in Road of Resistance - Live in Japan (OFFICIAL). You can still hear SU clearly over them though. However they are virtually non-existant (if there at all) now. I saw them 3 times last year, and can't remember noticing any tracks (except where it's obvious like you said). I agree on your opinion about whoever that reactor was though (especially if it is that one who accused Babymetal/Band-Maid of using AutoTune. That guy is an idiot)

Simno345

Is not the good time watch Legend MM on May WOWOW TV has cut 3 songs on 20 night(because Amuse need to sell the Bluray),may be cut anthoer 3 songs on 21 night Please wait the bluray(release on 10 July),full concert and better sound quality

Crisis

Excellent choice of concert, thanks. Couple of your early questions - Legend MM was divided into Night of 20 and Night of 21. They were celebrating Momometal's 21st birthday on the second night, Night of 20 was the last day of her being 20. You have not seen Tokyo Dome Black Night yet - you watched Budokan Black Night from 2014. You did not watch the Budokan Red Night yet - that was the concert where Yui fell off the stage during 'Headbanger'. She was back for the next song (and then Moa, who had danced harder at the end of 'Headbanger' to compensate for Yui being missing and had overdone it I think) fell, but just about avoided sliding off the stage - she twisted her knee but carried on and finished the show almost in tears. Whoever the reactor is who said Su-metal has loud back track - I can think of a couple of possible explanations: 1. He has never heard a singer as good as Su (he probably thinks singers should warble when they are actually over-using the vibrato to disguise the fact they're falling off notes) so he thinks she must be using track - he needs to go and see them live, even the BluRays don't prepare you for how good she is in person; 2. He has hearing issues or bad audio equipment and either needs to get his ears checked or to invest in a decent sound system; or 3. He is an imbecile and needs to be told. Su does use track - for her own harmonies, not for her main vocal lines, that is all her (and the few parts that are not her are very obvious eg when she is behind the mask in 'Megitsune', the "parapapa" parts of 'Gimme Chocolate' etc).

Grington300 300

Su was 18, Yui and Moa both recently turned 17 ... still no less incredible.

Grington300 300

Great reaction as always and thank you for this! The "fell off the stage" thing youre thinking about was during one of the budokan nights in 2014 (i dont remember which). However Su fell off during black night of tokyo dome at the very end when she is saying farewell to the ground however its off the camera and thankfully she was fine.

s

1st night of Legend MM was 20 Night, 2nd night was 21 Night (MOMOMETAL's ages on each night (2nd night was on her 21st birthday) This concert was the 1st and so far only performance of 'Tales of the Destinies' (the 'Dream Theatre' song) Yui fell during Budokan Red Night 1 Mar 2014 (approx. 1:01:29 into the concert)

Simno345

There is a second show at Tokyo Dome called Black Night.

James Guerrero

Honestly the fact that Suzuka was just 17 years old here and Moa and Yui only 15 is not only incredible but unbelievable. Suzuka is in my mind the best female singer on the planet today. And these three young ladies along with Kami Band was a perfect storm of talent and professionalism.

GratefulAmerican

I didn't know you liked Between the Buried and Me! I saw them in March. They were amazing! Yui fell off the stage during the Budokan Red Night, not Tokyo Dome Red Night. It was during the song Headbanger I believe. Also the Dream Theater-like song was Tales of the Destinies. I'm a huge fan of it as well. Super progressive.
