Babymetal - Babymetal Album ( Full Album Reaction )

What a FREAKING EPIC way to start off your Discography!!! I am stunned!

Babymetal - Babymetal Album ( Full Album Reaction )

Comments

Concerning Song 4 supposedly in Japan the number 4 is commonly associated with bad luck (like 13 in western culture). Yui and Moa wrote the lyrics on a bus during a tour. Supposedly (once again) the song was a dare from Suzuka to see if they could write a song about the number. It is supposed to show that the number 4 is not necessarily bad luck but can actually mean positive things. There ya go😉

I can't wait for you to react to Yokohama Arena 2015, it has the best version of Rondo Of Nightmare IMO

Great review. There is no overall message with this album as such - at least 4 or 5 of the songs were recorded and released on the Sakura Gakuin albums before BABYMETAL separated from that group to become an independent band. I recall an interview when they released the second album, Metal Resistance, where they described this first album as like their calling card. '4 No Uta' is based on there being more than one number system in Japan - in one of them 'shi' is 4, but shi also means death or to die, so it is considered a very unlucky number in Japan (even more so than 13 is considered unlucky in the west), so most people will say yon rather than shi. They are listing all sorts of other words that contain 'shi' and saying it is just a superstition with no real basis, so it shouldn't be considered as unlucky. Yui and Moa have writing credits for the music and lyrics (not the arrangement of course) having written it on the tour of Singapore when they were 12. Su gave them the subject, they wrote the song - then annoyed the staff running round and singing it so much that they complained to Kobametal - and he turned it into the first Black BABYMETAL song. The songs they wrote about banana and wood have never been heard. 'Catch Me If You Can' is about playing a game that is like a cross between tag, hide & seek and blind man's bluff ... but they are playing with an Oni - a sort of ogre popular in some regions of Japan at festivals where someone will dress up as an Oni just to frighten children .... we should be more like Japan.

It's usually advised to avoid the comic book. The author changed the story without permission, and it wasn't realized until it was published. So it's considered non-canon. As someone said, the first concerts they had were Budokan 2014. Both Red and Black Night have the full album setlist, but Black Night also has two extra songs: No Rain, No Rainbow and their cover of Kimi to Anime ga Mitai. To be honest, For Metal Resistance, and Metal Galaxy, I wouldn't do the first concert afterward for following albums if you want to hit the whole discography in two concerts (minimum has to be two), as later they start stretching out their song played and debuts, and only in certain concerts are certain songs played. For example, for Metal Resistance, Tokyo Dome is the only time Tales of the Destinies is ever played. For Metal Resistance I would recommend: Tokyo Dome, both Red and Black Nights which covers the whole discography except From Dusk Till Dawn which doesn't make its first debut until Budokan 2021. For Metal Galaxy I would recommend: Legend - Metal Galaxy Day 1 and Day 2, which also has songs only ever played there. It is also the only time that the trilogy of Lights (Starlight, Shine, Arkadia) are played in order as they should be and how it is on the album.

I'm glad you chose to read the lyrics from Du-metal site, he's a legend! For years the band and management didn't release any official lyrics. He was one of the few japanese fans who transcribed them for everyone. I'll rapidly answer to some of your questions now: - BM Death: After Momoko officially joined the group, they changed the lyrics. She's saying "Momometal Death" in live shows since april! - Gimme Chocolate: The "atatata" part is an onomatopoeia of shots being fired because they're asking for chocolate in a ""violent"" way LOL it's like saying "pew pew" with a hand gun (now you can picture it with the choreography). - Onedari Daisakusen is actually a Yui & Moa solo song, like 4 no Uta/Song 4. I know their voices may sound similar for beginners ahahah - Song 4 is just a fun song. Yui and Moa wrote the lyrics themselves in the bus during the tour. It jokes about the similarity of the word "shi" (four) with other japanese words. - In Catch me if you can, they're playing hide and seeks with an ogre, a japanese folkloristic monster used in child stories (like the boogeyman). - The comic book you were referring at the end is called Babymetal Apocrypha: it tells the fictional story of how the group was created by the Fox God. The first album is the most heterogeneous, because a lot of songs were born as singles, when the group was not yet so popular. So there's not a real cohesive message. Nevertheless it captures the essence of "kawaii metal" in every aspect. Babymetal has always experimented, in every album, so you'll find crazy stuff in the others too. Thank you for your reactions, your journey into the Fox Hole is one of the best! See you!!

Hell ya John, been waiting for this! Haven’t heard this epic album in order as a whole in a while. Also, for Du-metal’s lyrics, right above the lyrics section, he also writes overview notes on what the song is about, which looks like you missed it. These notes answer your questions such as what Song 4 was about, was Catch Me If You Can about hide and seek with a monster? Etc. If you get a chance, go back and take a look! Gimme Choco: “Atatata zukyun”, etc - Imagine Yui & Moa being annoying little sisters running around you doing hand guns going “pew pew” 🤣. Song 4: Du-metal mentioned this, but “4” and “death” pronounced the same, “Shi”, hence the superstition. Yui & Moa wrote the lyrics in 2013, intelligently poking fun at this superstition, stating all these other words that are positive also has “Shi” in them (Happiness/SHIwase, Vitamin C/bitamin SHI, etc). Ijime, Dame, Zettai: there’s a “Nemisis” version, with guest guitarist from Arch Enemy doing the riffs. Audio is on YouTube! Uki Uki Midnight: The part about squid arms may have been a fun poke at Moa. In an interview, Su made fun of Moa for being like an old man. Su said Moa had all these salty snacks like squid arms laid out on her bed when they come back to the hotel from a show 🤣. Lastly, keep in mind, some of the literal translations makes zero sense due to culture. Biggest example: Onedari Daisakusen: “If I marry, I’ll marry you, Dad!”. This instantly gave me the cringe on first read lol. In reality, it’s a an innocent saying by little girls to dads showing their affection (daughterly), and carries no romantic/sexual connotations. In our western culture, it maybe better translated as “Daddy’s girl”, perhaps? After all, they are charming their fathers as spoiled brats to buy them all the things in this song haha. You’ll notice Babymetal has stopped performing this since 2017, probably because 20 year olds saying this line will be a little weird. The only special exception was the 2021 performance to celebrate 10 years. During this, Moa is seen “teaching” the 4 young back-up dancers “sister bones” how to charm their dads. So it made it less awkward, and acceptable. Nicely done Babymetal! Lol Look forward to the next Babymetal adventure! Lol 🤘🦊🤘🦊

Onedri Daisakusen is sang by Yui and Moa. You said "her" flow sounds so good, so wasn't not sure if you realized that it wasn't Su. Su did do the adlib words in [].
