I have a soft spot for You’ve broken my heart since it was the first thing I heard by them. Moshimo Taiyou… (the harmonica song) is also so nice I think, I enjoy hearing Taka and Toru sing together that much. But I totally agree about the 2nd being way different and also better in many ways. I heard the difference more when listening back to back now. Keep it real (the song) is such a good one, love the rapping part. You can see the Linkin Park inspiration clearly here. My favorite song out of these is And I know, that last one, it’s so melancholy and beautiful. That string thing is so good. I admit to listening to that song a lot even these days. I’m super stoked to follow along on this journey with you, looking forward to hearing your take on it with your musician ears. Also, that guitar is freaking gorgeous!!

2023-12-21 11:12:06 +0000 UTCat this time, they were 5 of them in the band (Alex:lead guitar)and Taka was the lead vocal and Toru was the sub vocal and guitar and first song(moshimo taiyouga…)was written by Toru. It’s been about 2 decades but still sounds good. 1st mini album was OOR self produced and 2nd album was created with a producer from a well known Japanese rock band(YKZ).

2023-12-21 03:44:14 +0000 UTCReally loved your reactions to the two mini albums. I have all the albums including the 2nd mini album but the first one goes for $216 on Ebay so don't have it yet. The 1st mini album was in 7/26/06. Taka was 18 at the time. Toru sometimes sang too and I think he was the one playing the harmonica. The 2nd mini album came out in 12/16/06. Taka did not have vocal musical training and can't explain how he sings so well. Alex left 4/5/09 after he was arrested for groping a girl on a train. So OOR had to decide what to do with their lead guitarist gone. Toru worked very hard to become that lead guitarist. Toru did the music and lyrics for PPSH on the 2nd mini album. That is probably why he did the vocals on that song. I love how you are reacting to their early music and seeing how they developed into the powerhouse that they are now. Can't wait for another reaction to One OK Rock. Really enjoy them.

The punk harmonica gave you a good jump scare haha I don't think Alex leaving the band really contributed to any changes in the band's sound. Taka and Toru have written nearly all of the songs both before and after Alex's time with the band. Niche syndrome would be the first album without alex. I'm looking forward to seeing you check out more of their old stuff! Zeitakubyo has one of my favorite songs from them. And their concert at Budokan in 2010 is on YouTube with English lyrics!
