BABYMETAL - THE OTHER ONE ( BLACK NIGHT )

Well we may have had a little tech problems at the end of this... but WHAT A FUN CONCERT!!!!
CLEAR NIGHT IS NEXT!!!

BABYMETAL - THE OTHER ONE ( BLACK NIGHT )

Comments

The one that choked you up at the beginning was Metalizm. The one just before was Believing and the one before that was Time Wave.

Michael Webber

Great watch-a-long. This is the first time I have watched this concert, and even though I know I will be blown away by anything Babymetal gives us, I am still staggered by the production and the professionalism of both the girls AND the band. Simply brilliant.

I feel I understand that change of logo. At first, I was annoyed that they were removing all traces of Yui, but then I figured that Yui isn't there anymore, Su and Moa (and AMUSE) left the door open for over four years for Yui to return; it was time to move on. I am so happy that out of the three Avengers, that Momo made it through. Some will say that she was the last girl standing, but in my view, Momo was also the best of them, which might be why the other Avengers sought other opportunities. Whatever the reason, the right choice was made. Momo is the perfect fit to help move Babymetal forward.

There is one more detail that I think is kind of important. The original BM logo had a heart draw by Yui, a Skull draw by Moa 4 wings draw by Su. They erased the heart and the skull and changed the wings to represent The New Babymetal.

Yes John please do the CrypticMisery guide. You will be fascinated by the history and backstory.

No, "The One" official video was filmed at Yokohama (I just checked). You can see the grandstands. Messi is just a big open space as it is just a convention center, not a real arena. Maybe they did it at Messi too?

It was at Makuhari Messe. Concert: Metal Resistance Episode III, Act II, “Babymetal World Tour 2015 - Dark Night Begins”. The Legend 2015 New Year’s Fox Festival was Act I.

Your guitar question: Guitarist is CJ Masciantonio, previously from the band Galactic Empire (along with Chris Kelly and Clint Tustin who are also Kami West) Here’s a picture of him on X with that guitar, I believe: https://twitter.com/CJMash15/status/1233501276597518337 You can probably figure out the rest, I’m not a guitar guy haha.

Hey John, here’s a brief breakdown of this specific show’s significance: 1). Momo performed with Babymetal since ~2019 but officially, Babymetal was just Su and Moa (Momo has no mic). 2). Babymetal goes on hiatus after 2021’s 10 Budokan shows. “Were they over as a group?!?!?!” 3). Babymetal Returns concert (Jan 2023) was the 1st time they’ve performed live since 2021. And they teased the hell out of us with that 3rd empty throne, then again with Momo’s delayed coffin entry. 4). Babymetal Begins Black Night’s close: with introduction of the doppelgänger girls, and repeatedly saying “old Babymetal will end”, fans were all puckered all the way up until their official re-introduction of Su and Moa (sigh of relief). 5). Then, they officially announced Momo as 3rd, and the crowd went crazy. This is why Clear Night, they had costume change, and Momo now has a Mic, and crowd went nuts when they performed the full Babymetal Death (not performed since Yui Left), and with “Momometal Desu!” Please, for the love of the Fox God, do Cryptic Misery’s updated “Everything You Need to Know About Babymetal” guide!! Questions like recruitment, how they formed, etc are all explained! Finally, Tokyo Dome’s 1st night’s performance of “Tales of the Destinies” will blow you away, it is insanely progy and technical (~28 time signature changes IIRC, with choreography!) Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater gave Babymetal his personal thumbs up for this performance.

You have to watch Moa playing acoustic in shine.

The pyramid is from The One official video and I think that was at Yokohama too but can't remember for sure.

Excellent - bring on Clear Night as soon as you can. 'Time Wave' was the song before 'Karate'. The two tracks you were asking about were 'Believing' and then 'METALIZM' made you choke. This was where Momoko was finally made an official member and was why you had to watch Black Night first - the lore only makes sense (if it makes any sense) if you follow it in the right order. Clear Night is her first concert as an official member (even though she has been performing with them as an Avenger since 2019) and it is BABYMETAL's first concert as a trio since 2017.

The one where they are super up high above the stage was Tokyo Dome. There is a Red Night and Black Night. It was in 2016 so it is pretty almost the entire 2 first albums. It's the only one I own on Blu-ray, and I've seen it a dozen times, it is just that good.

KITSUNES UP!!!! (and at the hour mark when you asked what the last 2 songs were, they were "Timewave" and my personal favorite "METALIZM")

Momo was not the official third member until Clear Night. You really need to watch the Cryptic Misery guide. Momo was a member of Sakura Gakuin, an idol group that all members of Babymetal have also come from. When Yui left they chose 3 dancers as rotating replacements but none were official Babymetal members. Momo was one of them. Eventually she won out over the others and ended up doing the last 25 shows or so as the only replacement before being named an official member.

The sax is on backing track.

Yes Babymetal almost always does two night concert runs. There have been black night and red night, light night and dark night, black night and clear night, etc. In this case Black Night was the last night as old Babymetal and Clear Night was the first night of new Babymetal.
