JungKook Golden ( Full Album Reaction )

This was everything I was hoping for!

Comments

I just want to point out that this is his first truly solo project - and he nailed it!!! Yes, he has had other solo tracks, but those were all during his time within BTS and with familiar producers (sometimes even his brothers!). I feel he really put himself out there using a language he can barely speak and working with foreign producers and writers. John, I think you used the best word...PROUD! I have a daughter his age and I feel extremely proud of his growth as a person and artist. Also, I'd like to mention that there are many singers out there that do not write their own music - why is this such a big deal when it comes to Jungkook? As CJ stated, he feels song writing isn't his strong suit and that he isn't comfortable doing it. I hope people will let him develop his art in his way!

Top 3 songs of this album has to be 1. Somebody 2. Standing Next to You 3. Hate You. Overall I'd give the album a 4/5, only because I didn't really like Too Sad to Dance unfortunately 🫤, but still a great album overall 👍.

yes totally agree with what you said about Seven clean version at the end, I was thinking the same after I posted my comment, I think also it's important for the flow of the album too as Shot Glass of Tears is such a sad song if that had been the last track on the album it ends on a real downer, I think by adding Seven the clean version at the end it brings the mood back up again so we're not left depressed and we will want to start listening again (just like with the story he's picked himself up and is ready to love again?)

Katie

I agree on the journey in the album. Yes or No was trying to define the relationship. And I think the Seven Clean version is him able to move on and love again. This time it’s a love not started “explicitly”. That’s the story of the album I took 😁 Jk didn’t have writing credits. He mentioned in recent interviews and his recent weverse live that he feels songwriting is not his strong suit as all he thinks about when writing lyrics is army. He said he wanted to showcase different styles and genre and with the short time, he relied more on the genius songwriters and producers . But he was very hands on in selecting what would represent his music and artistry. He said in the recent live that this is a start and he’ll have another album where he’ll be involved in writing but he said it may take longer. I think it’s great of him to have that self awareness of what he does best and what his limits are. I think he is a good songwriter but he May probably need to boost his confidence on that. For this album what I understood is that his goal was to showcase what he does best and that’s vocals, dance and performance. ☺️💜

I wrote this comment as I was watching your reaction and we seem to have the same opinions haha, sorry for the long comment I don't really do short comments 😅I totally agree with what you said about 3D and what I have started referring to as 'the Jack Harlow incident' but you know my opinions on that. I am old school and have an ipod where I listen to my music - I downloaded Golden this morning and made my own playlist where I swapped out 3D for the alternate version 😆 My favourites so far are Standing Next to you (I'm obsessed with that song!) and Hate You- it's so heart breaking and beautiful, there is so much emotion in his voice it just makes me want to give JK a hug and say it's ok baby haha I love Somebody lyrically when I first head it - I was reminded of 'You Oughta Know' by Alanis Morrisette (I've seen her sing that live and she was incredible) it's got that same savagery to it. I agree 100% this album tells the story of getting into a relationship the 'honeymoon period' where everything is amazing and passionate and you can't get enough of each other you feel like you're falling in love fast. Then something happens and it all goes south Hate you is the sorrow , Somebody is the anger and resentment, too sad to dance is the depression and then shot glass full of tears is the trying to embrace the pain and move on. So yeah not a skippable song - great album so proud of JK!

JK recently said the lyrics are just lyrics, images just images and not autobiographical. I think he picked these songs for there vibe, sound, performance, and he said love songs are universal. As others said here he didn't write the songs but he picked them. I agree the song order is basically beginning through to the end of a relationship. I don't know if I have a favorite yet...love them all...the beginning of Somebody..his voice! And Too Sad to Dance...that one I love. Enjoyed the album review with you..have a Blast in Tokyo. I lived in Nagoya for 2 years..Japan is incredible !

My favorite was also Hate You (I mean besides Seven). It is just so hauntingly beautiful. He really blew me away with his vocal skills in this album. Just wow. I also feel exactly the same as you with the feature on 3D, I've added the alt version to my playlists, cause the song is really good on all accounts otherwise.

Breanne

For me Hate you and shot glass of tears come in at top one and two favorites, the too sad to dance then yes and no. I loved the whole album but those four songs really are in my opinion some of the best for me. I am so proud of him right now .

Teresa Nike

I also think that’s what happened.

Maya

I love both Hate You & Shot Glass of Tears, his voice carries so much pain expressed so well of the lyrics. So proud of JK, not only the whole album's not in his native language, each song has different flavor, need different vocal techniques & he nailed them all! He didn't take part in the production but there's nothing wrong if that's what he feels most comfortable (all the other members did exactly the same for their own solos). Consistent with him sings other artists' songs on weverse lives, this is his way to show his love for music that not necessary produced by himself.

Dottie

Love everything❤️❤️❤️ our boy is really golden😍

Lisa

He has no writing credits on this. My understanding is he really was not intending to do an album before military service. The company showed him seven, he liked it, and that steam rolled into an album.

Jungkooks album is a masterpiece. He is the popstar he always wanted to be. He deserves all the love and respect in this world. 💜
