Dimash - Almaty Concert | part 1

Ok, I just wanted to say sorry in advance for my physical reaction to S.O.S. I've heard the song before... thought i knew what i was getting into... nope... i was unprepared... this concert is amazing!

Dimash - Almaty Concert | part 1

Comments

Hi, I'm NEW in to Patreon from Chile, it's nice to be able to see these concerts with you, I was listening to Battle Of Memories, it's one of my favorites, he recently sang a different version in China, with a dream suit he looks spectacular, have you seen it? I leave you the link, it is really very good and very new!!! Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9TKh3p8R8w

Cory Soles

I did too!!! It is actually hitting me now!

Akiko-choypella

I really enjoyed watching this "with you". ❤️ I think the difference in his performance you felt is probably because he is with 'his' audience in his environment. A lot of videos out there, he is either a contestant or one of the featured guests of a show/event where he would be showcasing his talent to grab the audience with just one song.

Akiko-choypella

I like you are excited to hear songs you haven't heard before! I think you would enjoy the official MV of ZHALYN(the second song after Golden)

Akiko-choypella

That last run with SOS was incredible.❤️

Verna

Love all your reactions to all the different artists. I have been to a lot of KPop concerts & Dimash’s concert will always be my favorite. Enough that for the very first time I joined Patreon. 🤩❤️🥰

Verna

Same here. We just missed the greatest vocalist of our generation. Hopefully he will play in the USA again soon.

Dena Currie

I love this concert reaction! I love Dimash voice! Still hurts me I didn’t know him when she came to NY 1

Love it! Your reaction to SOS actually made me tear up! ;) SOS was written for a Rock Opera in the late 70's and is to this day a very popular song in France. The lyrics are indeed very sad and sadly Daniel Balavoine, the original singer died quite young in a helicopter crash. I knew the song very well before Dimash sang it as I'm French and I love the way he's changed it and made it his own. He is such an amazing performer. As for the words you hear throughout, yes they were written by Dimash. He is a great poetry lover and although he usually leaves lyrics writing to others, he's actually writing a bit more now. His concerts are amazing and I was lucky enough to attend 2 so far. They are usually about over 3 hours long as he is so full of energy.

Séby

I remember that too Miia. I can't remember where I saw it now as I've watched so many documentaries and interviews. The main reason why I think these words are his is because of something his father once said, that he was being given an award and got told at the last minute he had to make a speech. He wrote something in 10 minutes and his parents were concerned about what he was going to say but when they heard him give the speech they knew they had been right to trust him, I personally believe that his previous reluctance to write lyrics is down to his perfectionism and lack of confidence. Now he's grown in maturity, has more faith in his ability to move people with words and when he's speaking in his native language he's extremely eloquent.

This link gives a little info on where the inspiration for SOS came from. I think Dimash lost a very close friend and other people close that makes it very emotional. https://youtu.be/ppkRfIPiGR4

SOS is still my favorite song by Dimash, and this version is incredible! I have never looked into the real meaning of the song because I want my personal interpretation to stay true. John, you and I are on the same wavelength of this earthling in distress; however, I feel that he has succumbed to the fact that he does not belong here and then takes his life at the end. Like he is basically singing his suicide note. Dimash singing in flawless French is really what makes this song so beautiful. And, of course, it is the song that catapulted him from anonymity to super stardom! 💜

KarenH

So far, this is my second time watching this reaction 🥰. Dimash’s concerts are incredible, there’s something special in all of them. SOS is a very special song, someone else gave the songs background, it’s different each time and on at least two occasions it was dedicated to someone who had passed away that was close to Dimash, not to mention the significance of it being his first performance on I Am Singer, overnight stardom. I can’t wait for the next 2 parts, I am so happy that you are diving into concerts because they have a different vibe then a guest appearance. Thank you John, so glad that you now understand the meaning behind the name Dear, yes you definitely are a Dear❤️.

Janet Lawson

Yes he loves poetry. I couldn't understand a word but I loved it when he read a poem at the fan-meeting in Almaty. Also, today's Abai Challenge on Instagram shows his appreciation for poetry and written words, unfortunately I didn't have time to contribute to the challenge myself. Those not knowing about the challenge, please check out Dimash's IG post and #AbayChallenge on IG.

Thanks for your super reaction to this stratospheric concert! One year later, I have not recovered yet... and I am ready to travel again to Kazakhstan (6500kms from my country) to watch the next one in his homeland. Regarding SOS, it is a French song, written for an opera rock, Starmania. This is a mythic song for several reasons. It is considered as one of the most difficult song in the French repertoire, and it is about a man thinking about suicide. The singer, Daniel Balavoine, tragically passed away when he was 35 (if I remember well) in a helicopter crash during the Paris-Dakar race. Years later, this song was performed by a young French singer, Gregory Lemarchal, during a talent show. He suffered from cystic fibrosis and passed away when he was 24 or 25. And regarding Dimash, this song was the one which propelled him to the celebrity during the Singer event in China. A Kazakh ice skater, Denis Ten, Olympic medalist, skated on Dimash SOS: they met and became friend. But Denis Ten died after an aggression (he was 25), in Almaty. Dimash performed SOS as a tribute to him and these versions of SOS are heartbreaking, with a film of Denis Ten skating in the background. Now SOS is Dimash's song and this version, in Almaty, is the most desperate one I have ever heard. It directly targets our soul, and his interpretation is out of this world. I am very impatient to watch your reactions to the 2 other parts, which are insane. On stage, Dimash gives everything and this is why his relation with his fans is incredibly strong: he is so more than the best vocalist ever, he is an extraordinary beautiful person. His voice is like his soul: deep, pure and powerful. I really hope that one day he will be known in our western countries because he deserves to have the world at his feet, for his voice of course but also because the world needs personality like him, transcending borders, cultures and religions, trying to build bridges between people, conveying messages for a better world. He is an absolute genius.

You don’t have to apologize for getting emotional when he sings; that’s what should happen! There are several performances of SOS that stand out to me, and this is one of them. And I think you’re spot on about the meaning of the song. Also, the first time I heard his “Ave Maria” I wept, and “Battle of Memories” is a song from a Chinese film that he recorded. You should watch the official video of that. And finally, I think the variety of his music adds to how special and unique he is; you can’t put him in a box! Looking forward to your reaction to parts 2&3.

My favorite Dimash concert was always the Bastau concert...until THIS. OMG. I've never seen anything like this man in my entire life. The connection with his fans, the perfection of his singing, the outfits, the stage, the ENERGY! Dimash is EVERYTHING. I LOVE your reaction to the songs that you haven't heard yet. And it's so funny that I don't even notice the dancers because my eyes are totally glued on HIM. He's such an absolute mesmerizing performer that you can't take your eyes away from him. What a concert those was. Cannot wait to see your reaction to the rest of it....you will be as amazed as we were!

Lydia Parris

Yeah i always thought they were something commissioned in his specifications, especially as he had said that he didn't think writing was his talent and that he leaves song lyrics for other people. But after Omir, and the fact that he wrote the lyrics and especially how well they flow, i actually think it's possible he wrote these things as well. But in the very least he would have told someone what needs saying and he would have overseen the process and changed/polished anything that needed that. John, i can't remember if this has come up in the Dimash guide videos you've seen or not, but he is actually a big fan of poetry. As a little kid he asked for a special permission from his Kazakh teacher if he could follow her around and attend classes that were not his to hear the teacher talk about their poets and literature more. If i remember correctly this is from an interview with one of his teachers. (There's all sorts of hearsay dears sometimes write in Youtube comments, so i like to always mention the source. Debs, you might remember it. It's Miia here btw, you might not recognise my YT nick for reactors and other things i don't like messing with my main account's algorithm :D)

M. W.F.

Thank you very much for such an amazing first part. I can't wait for the Moment to see part 2 and 3.

David Chy

Great reaction and I can’t wait for parts 2 and 3.

Dena Currie

I think all the spoken parts of the concert are actually his own words and judging by the one right at the end of the concert I can fully believe it. I'm so glad you're enjoying the concert, as we tell reactors so many times, you don't know Dimash until you've seen a concert because it's a wild party that everyone gets to enjoy. People tend to label him as some staid opera singer when that couldn't be further from the truth.

Debs Morgan

Yes, definitely Angel ❤️

Janet Lawson

Bastau is no longer on his channel other than by song. So harder to do as a full concert 😢

Maykacha

I am glad you are enjoying the concert. No need to apologise, Dimash really can tug at emotions. SOS and a few others often do that too me as well. Olimpico tends to get me in the mood to climb mountains lol or in my case go for a walk as mountain climbing is no longer possible for me. 😂Dimash’s concert are all over 2 hours almost 3. They come in all sizes(venues). He always give his all. He changes often the way he sings songs. Adding little runs or such. Partially to prove he sings live, partially I am sure to keep it interesting for him.

Maykacha

I totally agree. Stranger in Almaty was epic because it was huge, thousands of Dears came from all over the world to Kazakhstan - his home country, and so many of his friends, family and countrymen where there. But the smaller concerts are just as good but in a different way. More intimate, more direct contact with the audience, more free in a way.

TuttaSB

It's 4am so I had to pause after SOS (will watch the rest tomorrow) but will write my comment now before I forget. I was there, and yes it was epic. Dears turned the whole town upside down for a week and the kazakh people welcomed us is such a wonderful way. Dimash first costume is a remake of "The Golden Man". Archaeologists discovered the remains of The Golden Man in Kazakhstan back in 1969, allegedly the remains dates back to the 2nd-3rd century BCE. Dimash opening with this costume was pretty amazing. The song "If I Never Breathe Again" is a cover but just like SOS it's a song close to Dimash's heart and he has made it his own. "If I Never Breathe Again" is a song precious to Dimash & Dears and Dimash sings it to convey his love and gratitude to the Dears. And can we please appreciate Dimash's versatility?! We're still in Part 1 of the concert and the songs are so different. Different genres, different styles, different languages (English, Kazakh, Italian, Mandarin, Angel (Ave Maria) and then SOS in French) and he's far from done yet. Looking forward to the rest of the concert.

TuttaSB

This concert is AMAZING from start to finish. I would love to see you watch some of his earlier, smaller concerts too. Each one is so very special in their own unique ways that it's almost unfathomable. From his first solo concert (Bastau), his first concert in London (where might I add he was sick with a high fever, yet still gave a high energy, engaged, and intimate performance), to his Moscow concert, Arnau concerts in Nur-Sultan, Kyiv, and of course his New York concert.... just to name a few 😁. Life changed when I discovered Dimash, and I know I'm one of millions who can say that. Thank you for your thoughtful and heartfelt reactions. It's such a joy to ride along on your discovery of Dimash. ✌️❤

Corinne

There is a note that Dimash hits in the music video version of "Battle of Memories" that just about makes my soul leave my body. But I love how he is changes up his style from time to time in his songs. Perfect any way he chooses to sing it ❤❤

Regina Reggie Dendy

Dimash is the goat!

Dena Currie

Me too. I love this song.

Dena Currie

"Battle of Memories" makes me cry! Love his emotion ❤
