RENT ( Full Movie Reaction )

This DVD sat on my dad's Shelf for YEARS! and now I finally know why!

RENT ( Full Movie Reaction )

Comments

I know it's been a while since you put this up, but I just wanted to let you know that if you look at the extra's on the DVD there is a couple of songs that didn't make the movie cut but are in the stage version, and while I enjoy the movie version, I actually think that my favourite song didn't make the cut for it. So if you get the chance at some point go back and check out the extra's section

Here for the live version!!!!

I'm so glad you finally watched it and enjoyed it. Definitely here for the reaction to the live stage production as well. It's hard to really grasp how much this rocked the idea of musicals when it debuted in 1996; not only the type of music, but the subject matter. I first saw it in 2001 and it's one of my all-time favorites still.

Hi John! So I'm not sure if you know but the cast is actually the original cast from the musical except for Mimi (Rosario Dawson) and Joanne (Tracie Thoms). Daphne Rubin-Vega and Fredi Walker-Browne were the originals. Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs actually got married to each other irl but they're divorced in 2014.

RENT has been one of my absolute fave musicals for years and this cast just knock it out of the park, you can see why most of them were the OGs. I cannot wait for you to watch the live version because as ,uch as I love the film the stage show just hits so much harder and you get all those extra bits. It's seeing it how Jonathan intended it and it's just perfection.

So glad we got to watch along with your reaction. Here for the Live version later, but give yourself time enough in between to be able to appreciate it again. Don't fatigue yourself. LOL Now that you've seen it, you can appreciate Tick Tick Boom! with a new appreciation as the parallels between Larson's life and Rent motifs jump out at you as you go through Tick Tick Boom! again for rewatch. Rent is a little different structure and the story structure used for it is quite old - 1896, Puccini's opera, La Boheme. Larson worked for a short time with Aronson, another playwright, who had the idea to take the plot of La Boheme and update it for a modern telling. Larson didn't work well with Aronson, so he bought out Aronson's idea and licensed it as his own and then working with Stephen Sondheim's support, wrote Rent to be the fusion of "write what you know" from his agent's advice, everything he had learned in Suburbia and Tick Tick Boom, and he knocked it out of the park with Rent. Just in the nick of time. What an amazing individual and what a question for what else he might have shown us if he had just another 10 years on the clock. But the angel delivered his gift and went on to bigger and better planes of existence, we can hope.
