The Greatest Showman ( Full Movie Reaction )

Comments

Absolutely love this movie, I am so happy to see musicals coming back to the movies. Thank you for watching, somehow I knew that you would enjoy this.

Janet Lawson

If you’re still looking for suggestions for musicals, I’d recommend Moulin Rouge, Les Miserablés, and/or Twisted (by Starkid). Moulin Rouge is a jukebox musical, so it’s a little different than the musicals you’ve seen so far (but it’s definitely worth the watch). I went through a huge musical phase a couple years ago, and it quickly became one of my favorites- along with The Greatest Showman and Hamilton.

Cadence

Yea this movie legendary. I don’t think I know many other musicals. Aladdin maybe lol

Becky Jin

To build on this, it was Hugh's passion project! He'd been trying for years to get this greenlit, and there's interpretations of "Come Back Home" where it talks about not letting the glitter of fame take away his attention from what matters being a personal message from him that he's going to start working on things closer to his heart as opposed to big hollywood projects like X-Men, which has actually been pretty true. He hasn't appeared in anything big-box since this came out.

Yuki_Xain

Really wanting to check out Newsies! I've heard a ton about it!

John Reaves

If you’re interested in some good stage recordings of musicals, it’s gotta be either Newsies or Come From Away. Both excellent.

Ashley Saari

Hi, John to answer your question regarding the never enough song is not the actress's voice, it was supposed to be her but once she heard the singer hired as the reference vocalist she suggested that they let her sing it. Her name is Loren Allred and she sang this song at Britain Got talent as her audition for the show, here is the link in case you want to check it out https://youtu.be/oTw8AECmUNA

I saw this movie 3 times at the theater. It was so amazing. The soundtrack is phenomenal. I love everything about this movie. I hope we can see more of Hugh and Zac in movies like this going forward. There are some great behind the scenes videos of the cast practicing the songs and it's amazing. They did From Now On, and at the time Hugh had just had throat surgery and he wasn't supposed to be singing and he did anyway, and it's just amazing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PluaPvhkIMU

Jessica Danowski

I was lucky enough to see Hugh Jackman live in The Music Man in October. He absolutely killed it. Legend. John, I love your reactions. They bring a smile to my face every time. Much love.

Oh my god, I love this movie so much. I don't watch all too many musicals, just an occasional one through the years, but man this one just doesn't miss. Every song just hits you to the core. I love it so much. One of the 'recent' ones I had seen (and I say recent referring to my previous comment about watching them through the years LOL) was La La Land. I'm not big into the review scene to know what everyone else thought of it. But I remember watching it and IMMEDIATELY wanting to see if there was a blues house or speak easy in my area. LOL. I think it had come out at a time where I was really bummed at all the re-productions of old movies or sequels that kept coming out where nothing felt original and it was awesome to see a new musical. It's centered around people trying to make a name for themselves in the entertainment industry, either through jazz or acting. (The Greatest Showman is still my favorite musical though hehe)

Breanne

If you are interested, Pink performs a beautifully haunting (or hauntingly beautiful) version of A Million Dreams. 💜 And, if you like her voice on that one, then the next would be Glitter In Air performed at the Grammys (12 yrs ago, I think). It may be my favorite performance of hers.

thebakingfool

wow, I had never seen these videos. Thank you so much for sharing them!

Breanne

I loved watching this with you. As musicals go I'm not really keen but this one just draws you in and there isn't a song that is second class. Huge Jackman is an actor second to his singing and dancing talent. Wonderful!

Joanne G.

another musical you might like is Little Shop of Horrors! it’s my favorite but it’s not as mainstream as some of the other ones…just a suggestion :)

Sherri Baker

Yeah, like, I know people hate on it because of Jackman and Crowe, but it's really worth the watch. It gives more context than the concerts do, so it's easier for first time viewers to understand what's going on. Also, come on, Samantha Barks and Aaron Tveit? Who in their right mind would say no to a movie with them in it lol?

Joyelizabeth

Not only is Hugh Jackman in this musical movie, but he originated his career in musicals many years ago. He starred in the musical Oklahoma, the movie Les Miserables, and is currently the star of the Broadway production The Music Man. He also pulled the bearded lady off of Broadway for this movie. She was in Les Miserables. Hope you watch the movie, even though it gets mixed reviews, there are still some seriously amazing parts in it. But first, Six the Musical or Newsies!!!! Probably gotta ease you into those dramatic operatic musicals lol

Joyelizabeth

28:17 I don’t know about you but I feel like this movie and specifically this scene is where Jackson Wang got his inspiration for his “Come Alive” MV

I remember watching this for the first time in school for film lit and I loved it so much all the songs are fantastic and the cast is just amazing as well!!

Love BTS and TxT

This is one of my favorite movies of all time, so I was ecstatic when I saw you did a react to it! I own like a whopping 10 DVDs, and this is one of them. Like you said with the redemption arc, you never stopped rooting for him. I've seen a lot of movies where I character falls from grace, but you felt they deserved it so much you didn't care what happened to them anymore. To me it was really neat to see how Hugh's character brings Zac's into a place of humility only to stray from it himself. The fault he had found in Zac became his own flaw he had gone blind to. I loved that the characters Hugh had saved end up saving him in turn. It's just an excellent story with incredible characters and fantastic music. I love every moment of it.

Crystal Riley

Those make me cry too! The emotion flooded that little room, it was insane!!!

Crystal Riley

Now you have to watch Les Miserables another Hugh Jackman led musical movie

Ana

Can you do Dear Evan Hansen next?? 💜💜🖤🖤🖤

Ana

An interesting fact is Zendaya and Zac did their own aerial stunts in Rewrite the Stars.

Yo!SamitySam!

I love watching your reactions because you’re just so pure with them. I can feel it when you don’t agree with the way others think or even more so when you’re excited about something!! This movie has been a great influence in my life. Thank you for reacting to it!

Kim Del Vecchio

btw john i dm you on discord to react to a part of This is Me(behind the scenes of the song)..not for sure if you can react to it on youtube if not you can put it here on patreon.

nolo nolo

The song called "This is me" is sing by Keala Settle(the lady with the purple dress and has a beard in the movie)...when she was singing this song in the studio she cried while she was singing it and hugh jackman saw her how emotional she got and was crying in the studio while she was singing it..hugh jackman decided to keep that in the song...its one of my favorite songs in this movie.

This! I copied the links to leave the same comment. Those behind the scenes were so moving and I think John would love them!

EKMontie

I love greatest showman, the movie and songs were like a brain rot when it came out. Couldn’t get them out of my head. To answer you question: no this isn’t a broadway musical or anything, this was made just to be a movie and its such a good example of what an original movie musical should be, there’s been horrid attempt at making an original musical through movies. I’m still hoping tick tick boom will be reacted to someday!

Jenny V

Awesome reaction. I love this movie. I got to see it in theaters with my mom when it first came out. I wanted to suggest another musical its called 1776. It's about the writing of the declaration of independence but as a musical. Its an absolutely brilliant movie and I think you would enjoy it

Jordan Kisling

There are 2 videos you must check out. Both of these were done prior to the show, in order to greenlight the whole thing. They are full cast singing live with a small band in a room, for the investors. They both make me cry every time, and I would have killed to be in the room!! From Now On: https://youtu.be/PluaPvhkIMU This is Me. https://youtu.be/XLFEvHWD_NE

Lisa Hood

YES!!! omg one of my fav musicals ever and I don't generally like musicals lol XD

DreamTeam002
