This Is Their Relationship In a Nutshell (Grimdark Sci Fi WIP)

Updates are here!  And for this one, I wanted to highlight the sort of dynamic Amberley has with Cain and his sidekick Jurgen.  So I mentioned this back in the month I did Cain, but his books usually follows a very specific pattern.  Cain goes off on some innocuous side quest that should be a cakewalk (because he always tries to pick the easiest missions).  Things then go off the rails as an unexpected enemy shows up or Amberley crashes the party to tell Cain about what's really going on.

Amberley then asks (read: orders) him to go on a suicide mission that Cain realistically shouldn't be able to pull off (i.e. fight a Greater Daemon, Hive Tyrant or something way above his paygrade).  Jurgen (and sometimes Amberley) saves his ass and Cain gets all the glory, thereby ensuring he'll get thrown into a more dangerous mission.  An endless cycle of gut wrenching terror followed by some hanky panky if Cain's lucky.

Cain actually believes he's only alive because Big E thinks it's funny to watch him floundering from one disaster to another.  And at this point, I believe it too.  The Emperor Protects indeed! 👍 I eagerly await the time when Cain takes on Abaddon only for that lumbering joke to trip over Jurgen and impale himself on Drach'nyen.  Yes, I think that's the most dignified way for the greatest threat to the Imperium to go out in the lore.

Anyways, Amberley gets a pose ordering Cain around, shooting her bolter and gloating over a job well done.  Like I said before, Amberley's much more competent than the average Inquisitor so she has good reason to be haughty.  I wonder if the Inquisition has an Employee of the Month?  She's probably won it quite a few times.  If you look closely, Amberly has a ring on her index finger which is actually an archeotech digi weapon.  She used this to one-shot a Genestealer Patriach in Cain's first book For the Emperor!

Okay, so next up is something I didn't plan for but decided to do this month anyways because I've pitied the Grey Knight playerbase for awhile now and I saw an opportunity to do something about it.  Surprise, it's the Mark II Baby Carriage - I mean Dreadknight!  So, let me ask you something, does this thing fill you with dread?  It uh, certainly fills me with something but it's not dread.  I get that they were trying to pay homage to the Alien 2 walker, but by the Emperor's shrivelled balls, the unit is called a Dreadknight!  Seriously, I didn't realize that incapacitating your opponent with laughter was a valid Grey Knight strategy on the tabletop. 😄

So yeah, hopefully this version will make heretics crap their pants.  In my opinion they should find any excuse to upgrade the design in the lore.  Just say that Amberley found an STC and handed it to Cawl for some tech heresy upgrades (at this point, what's one more act of sacrilege against the Prieshood of Mars?).  The Big Blueberry gives his power stamp of approval and heretics stop wondering if the Grey Knights have less marbles than they do.  There, lore problem solved. 👍

Don't worry Sci-Fi fans, I haven't forgotten about the Titanfall mech.  I've been working on it in parallel. 😄
