At one point I forgot what night it was, so I glanced at Facebook on my phone. A girl I went to high school with posted "OMG Steve Carrell returned for the Office finale" literally minutes after it aired, and hours before I'd be able to get home to watch it. She's still blocked to this day

2025-10-14 20:15:56 +0000 UTCI tried watching all the way through number of times but always ended up jumping off the ship, and then jumping back to just watch this finale, and every time it still never fails to make me cry when Michael shows up. It's my fault for being the unloyal fan who can't stick with it all the way because I hated some of the developments towards the end, because when it was at its height, it's undeniable that The Office is one of the best shows on TV. Congrats again, gang, for finally reaching the end!

NBC’s highest executives were around during the entire process of the finale and The Office production didn’t want them to leak or spoil the cameo. So they wrote the script and gave Michael’s lines to another character (the finale script read is on YouTube and I think they had Creed read them) and secretly filmed scenes with Steve Carell when the execs weren’t around.
