This shows' seasons work in pairs. 1 & 2 have a very similar kind of tone. Same with 3 & 4. And after certain events at the end of 4 and the beginning of 5 the show changes even more. Obviously they begin eating grilled cheese off a radiator.

As they pointed out it's not that he's racist, what surprised them is just how blatant and open he is about it.

The show remains great, but it does sort of become a different show once Livia is gone.

Chris at the wake is one of the funniest scenes in the season. - "Who's to say there won't another Mrs.Soprano just like her? .. Maybe not with same same fears and paranoia.. " haha

Google Gemini AI is what spoiled me though

#sundayrundown Yes, The Sopranos used computer-generated imagery (CGI) in Season 3, Episode 2, "Proshai, Livushka," to create a final scene with the character Livia Soprano after her mother, Nancy Marchand, passed away before the season began. The CGI technique involved superimposing Marchand's face onto a body double and piecing together dialogue from previous episodes to depict Livia's final interaction with her son, PS also don't use chat got to look up a synopsis Google Gemini is better

It always amuses me that first-time watchers of this show are either surprised or caught off guard that Tony is racist. One of the main excuses they used in Goodfellas if the police ever came sniffing around was to pin their crimes on imaginary black people they made up. Italian people also have their own specialized Italian slur for black people: "moolinyan", which is essentially the Italian version of the n-word. This storyline is actually one of my favorite storylines in season three because the level of hypocrisy, mental gymnastics, and cognitive dissonance Tony goes through in an attempt to justify his racism to Meadow throughout the rest of the season is so hilarious and ridiculous you can't help but laugh. As someone who was in a past relationship with a darker-skinned Italian girl similar to Meadow, not only is racism a big issue but colorism is prevalent as well.

Navi was absolutely correct in her support of "Uncle Ben" & "Aunt Jemima" being removed. So many people online still say what Suraj said "It's the nostalgia." Both of these mascots never really existed. Uncle Ben's was founded by two British-German scientist & Aunt Jemima's by two white men. These mascots never existed, they never made generational wealth for their families. They were created for one specific reason. White people would see a logo with a black woman / man wearing some old timey outfit and smiling and immediately think "wow this product must have been made efficiently" still relating it to slavery.

Not saying it excuses the racism, but what Toni said WAS correct. It was a two-way thing back then. Black and White people were in agreement with each other that they didn't want their sons and daughters dating. It was moreso segregation than discrimination.

"Goodbye, little Livia". 😞 Here's a short video about Nancy Marchand's audition for The Sopranos, she absolutely crushed it: https://www.tiktok.com/@reactionrealm/video/7527057460729842999

Livia was actually based on show creator's (David Chase) real-life Mother. The idea of The Sopranos pretty much started with Livia and was fleshed out from there. When you guys are finished the series, I highly recommend watching the HBO Sopranos documentary, Wise Guy. It goes in depth on this and many other things.

Heh, I can't help laughing when you mentioned how good the CG with Livia was for the time. Lol no, there is stuff from the mid-90s that looks better. Btw the reason for the CG was because Nancy Marchand passed away. The sudden death might be the reason it looks so rough.

This was one of my favorite carmella episodes. The Olivia footage was really ruff i haven't watched since like 2010 and didn't notice before maybe I wasn't paying attention. I wanna feel bad for Tony. When it comes to Janice, because he bought her back when he probably should've left her wherever she was. He knows what what she's like and what he'd be inviting in to his home so I can't really feel for him in that situation. I also remember the Meadow boyfriend situation vaguely. But I forgot how blatantly racist Tony was. He hit him with full slurs.

The wake thing at the Soprano house is easily one of the best scenes in the entire series, IMO.
