I get the hesitation and dislike of not always sunshine and rainbows, a crisis of faith, Pike. But also, it's the cast making these decisions in the story, so saying it's out of character for her to do this when it's literally Ashley making Pike do it is like saying "your character wouldn't do that" at the table. It's always gonna be how Pike would act because they're the only ones who would know. Also, considering how disconnected Ashley may have been from Pike in the original campaign because she kept leaving and coming back from work... there's a possibility this is what Pike was supposed to be like if she'd settled in more. This Pike feels closer to Pike after the time skip with Terrion. THAT Pike didn't take no shit but was still sweet... and went to brothels lol

# SundayRundown Yenk is my favorite sleeper character, but we'll see some more of him and his love for WWE later

We are his Blood, dear brothers and sisters.

Some random factoids: in D&D, the general cosmology has there being the Nine Hells of Baator (loosely inspired by Dante's Inferno). In the show, Hell was depicted as the 2nd layer of Hell -- which is basically the City of Dis. The ruler of the 2nd layer of Hell is Dispater, an arch-devil that's not all that different from Zerxus. I could be wrong on this, but my understanding is that the Nine Hells doesn't have ecology like the Prime Material Plane (Earth, basically). There are no true insects in Hell. So the bugs that Keyleth ate weren't really bugs -- they were lesser devils (or something similar). Zerxus references a couple of interesting figures. First, the Tormentor, who I believe is Asmodeus, the ruler of all Nine Layers of Hell, and basically at the top of the Arch-devil heirarchy. He mentions the Tormentor in his exposition to Pike. But then Zerxus references someone else in his conversation with Yenk. And at this conversation he sounds eerily like the Briarwoods and their anticipation of a certain someone's ascension.

No faith in Pike... SMH

Gods stuff is my favorite part of the lore! I love the idea that the hells are forbidden to the followers of The Everlight. In the episode they don't say why. Are the souls in hell unredeemable? Or is redeeming them too dangerous? It explains why Dis isn't constantly under attack by clerics and paladins liberating souls. Great world building that also reflects the Everlight and Lord of Torment's past encounters. Much like Zerxus, the Everlight tried to redeem the lord of Torment, but he tricked her and he significantly weakened her power. It will probably take years, but I hope all the side stories get animated. Can't wait to see what they do with all this brand new Pike stuff in the next season(s)!

#SundayRundown #LOVM. I know it doesn't really matter since you guys are watching this show for the first time, but know that this season in particular is a big departure from the events of campaign one, and I'm sure others will comment on when those changes occur. My question is about how you guys personally feel about adaptations changing the source material, I know there was some discourse over the changes but as first time watchers I don't think it will affect you as much. For me I understand having to change some things for the sake of adpating it to a new format, obviously condensing the hundreds of content from the campaign into half hour episodes is necessary, but I also feel like when events happens differently it feels like I'm watching an alternative timeline rather than an adaptation, which I'm not saying is bad, just how it comes off as a critical role fan. I would love to know your thoughts on adaptations and how they should handle changes or if you have a perfect one in mind.

See, this episode is an issue. Pike would never, under ANY circumstances, gamble with the SOULS of her friends. Especially without consulting them. And this whole crisis of faith thing? The entire point of Pike is that her devotion to her deity is so strong that she actually brought worship of her deity back into common practice. Pike raised a temple to the everlight and was her chosen devotee. Like I understand that some things are going to change when you adapt a piece of media, but this Pike is a completely different character than her campaign counterpart. This isn't fun-buns wearing Mama Pike and that makes me sad. Of course, that's just my own take on it and people are free to disagree; no worries.

This is accurate, devils do abide by rules in DnD lore, but ya know, still evil and can do loopholes

Zerxus is an interesting character since technically he wasn’t created until after Campaign 1 ended when Critical did a prequel miniseries about the Calamity. The story he told about his crew of friends is really interesting to the CR fans because while the story was correct about the city falling, it is a biased interpretation on who was at faults and his actions during the event. Really great miniseries, and is considered the best in the whole series

Allan Jacob

For the sake of argument: in DnD, Demons and Devils are two different things. Demons lean chaotic evil, devils more often than not are lawful evil. By no means does that mean ever trust a devil, just that they aren't going to be cheating, they'll do what Zerxus did here: Play by the letter of the law, if not the spirit. We weren't sure what he was going to pull, but you can generally expect two things from a devil: They will follow the rules they laid out, and they WILL accept defeat, at least at face value

Im so excited for the next couple episodes. Been loving your reactions.
