It really gives levity to the world around Barry, as well as helps alleviate some of the darkness. Barry, for the last couple of episodes has basically been doing his best to keep his lives separate, and for Chris to stupidly open his mouth is just painful. Everyone at the moment understands what has to happen: Barry, Chris, and the audience. It's almost surreal to see someone literally talk themselves into an execution. It's just another point to Barry's excellent writing.

2025-06-17 20:23:33 +0000 UTCI fully understand why everyone looks down on Chris, especially on the first viewing, but he is only in that situation because of Barry. Everything that led to that moment was Barry's fault, specifically because of his passivity and carelessness. Barry let Sally create a FB account, which led to him reaching out to Chris. Barry invited Chris to a house party he had no reason to be at, which led to Taylor finding the plans and getting involved. Barry failed to handle Taylor, when he proved to be a major liability. Barry had plenty of time to make Taylor stop the car and get Chris out of there. I think it's very deliberate that the first time that Barry finally makes a decisive move, it's the one that will keep him from having to face the consequences of his actions. He chooses to murder his friend, rather than give up the fake life he's chasing after. This show is so fucking good.

2025-06-17 17:49:41 +0000 UTC1. Chris didn't know they were going to kill guys, he said Taylor told him they were only going to scare them. 2. Barry and Chris were friends for years. Chris didn't truly know that Barry would even think about killing him. 3. Barry could have gone to the cops and easily given them enough information to lock up all of Goran's crew and helped them with the Bolivians. But that would have required him to face justice for what he's done and give up his new life. At the end of the day Barry was selfish. So no, killing Chris didn't HAVE to happen.
