I forget the voice actress' name, but Keyleth's mom is voiced by the same actress that did Korra. That's not a coincidence -- Keyleth and her backstory is heavily inspired by ATLA.

The dynamic between grog and his cursed blade is one of the most underrated parts of this show, he’s such a perfect character to match up with this cursed sword that only seems to be able to talk in cliches. Grogs back and forths with the sword are always fun but they can remind you how serious the situation really is in a moments notice.

Druids normally use their wild shape to turn into animals, we see keyleth regularly doing this into a tiger or a bird, as they level up they gain access stronger animals and some druids can even turn into elementals. That’s what we see here as keyleth turns into a fire elemental, the show does a marvelous job translating the level ups from the game into natural growth in the show. You really get the sense of how hard they’ve worked to come this far, you can see the build up and that makes the inevitable pay off so much more satisfying. Keyleth would make korra proud, she really demonstrated that avatar kick ass spirit complete with giant spirit form and stopping threats from another plane.

#SundayRundown I think dragons hoard gold because of how medieval storytelling worked. Things had direct connection to good and evil with lessons of god. So dragons are prideful, wrathful, hoard gold because of their overwhelming greed, etc. a traditional dragon has like ALL deadly sins, don’t be like a dragon. It could be less of “I want the gold” and more “I want what YOU have and I know you want this.” Literal greed I’ve also heard people refer to the devil as a dragon in biblical terms. The gold hoarding probably had a bigger impact back in the day when peasants instantly used what they could to survive, trading goods for goods and living with the cycle of crops. But to have all this money and… not even do anything with it??? WHAT AN INSULT. How many people could you feed? Today however… I mean how many unopened figures do you keep on your shelf just because you like them :3

I think it's safe to say Keyleth mom missed leg day

The changes they made weren't bad the first two seasons and actually made total sense. It isn't until the third season when the changes start becoming a problem.

#SundayRundown Scanlan had no business going that hard with the “outhouse” music (full version played over the credits), but Sam Riegel simply does not miss More on Keyleth’s transformation this episode. All Druids can wildshape (transform), but mostly into smaller, weaker creatures for utility. Keyleth’s specific Druid subclass (Circle Of the Moon) specializes in Wild Shape, and gets to choose from much stronger forms. At level 10, they gain acceess to Elemental Forms which are even better Once again Critical Role turns the mechanic of “leveling up” into a strong storybeat - Keyleth had to earn it with a nudge from her father. It’s much more rewarding than “oh, shes got experience, now she can do more stuff.” Lastly, I gotta ask - is Pat the first person that’s been seduced by a cursed sword as a *viewer*?

Janet Varney (Korra) voiced Keyleths mom ☺️

#sundayrundown I think mixing the Aramente trial with Pyrah’s rescue was actually a smart and creative move. I was curious how they’d pull it off, but it worked. Keyleth turning into a Fire Elemental? That was seriously impressive. Overall, I feel like the writers are taking a more relaxed approach with the adaptation. Sure, it strays a bit from the exact campaign details, but in a way that makes the show clearer and more engaging. The core story beats are still landing, and that’s what really matters. Also—Ripley thinking she has anything worthwhile to offer a dragon? That’s bold. Hilariously bold. They’ve been doing such a great job at giving each Vox Machina member their own standout moments. From “do not go far from me” to “pass through fire,” I love how they’re weaving in these iconic campaign elements into the characters so naturally. It just works. Now, I wasn’t entirely surprised, but I definitely didn’t expect to hear Scanlan singing such a ridiculously charming song about going to the privy—and yet, I loved it. It totally reminded me of that song he did about Pike back in season one. Still hoping they drop a full version of that someday. Also, massive props to Janet Varney! When Marisha mentioned she voices Keyleth’s mom, I went back and listened carefully for Korra in her voice but honestly, I could barely tell. She nailed it.

Episodes 3 and 4 of this season are among my favorites, but this episode pretty much is where I realized this season was special. I was watching both this show (season 2) and TLOU at the same time and as good as TLOU is, I was much more invested in this show.

Robert Bonfante

Well, no not quite. All of keyleth's awkwardness was entirely on purpose. Keyleth was like 18 and brand new to the world so marisha intentionally played her as super awkward.

Smash Bran'Discootch

The avatar comparisons are definitely intentional. Marisha created Keyleth with inspirations from the Avatar series. Keyleth's mother is even played by Korra's voice actress.

Ghost Mom

I've been watching since campaign 1 and I love keyleths growth throughout the series. If I remember right, Marisha was playing character she wasn't fully comfortable with which feeds the awkwardness for Keyleth. So to see them both grow as the character is/was really cool.
