FYI, that was NOT the Engineer's home planet. It was another race of Alien, similar to humans in the fact that they were another attempt from the Engineers to create another race equal to, or better than, themselves. That race was innocent. In fact, they praised the Engineers and had met them before. The reason they were all underneath the ship with raised hands is because they were literally praising their "God" in that moment. Only to be met with oblivion. That race has very similar features, but at the same time are very different. They are about the same size as humans, maybe a little talker on average. They have dull, pale greyish skin. Whereas the Engineer's skin is a bluish-grey pearlescent. They also have vastly inferior intelligence compared to the Engineers. That race is far older than the human species, but far less intelligent. They were only left to live because despite the differences, they had the closest likeness to the Engineers, and they revered the Engineers. As such, the Engineers let them live instead of using them for the next stage of experiments. However, they would come from time to time to take "subjects" for their experiments. Similar to how ancient civilizations would give sacrifices to God's. That is why they all looked to be praising the arrival of the Engineers. They knew what their ships looked like. They believed their gods had come again.
