They're not afraid of or shy away from the very low lows and darker aspects of humanity, like The Farm or Apollo's willing acceptance of simply giving up. But it also has a ton of very high highs as well like Chief's ingenuity with building the Blackbird, Helo's resourcefulness to stay alive despite being left behind, and Starbuck's...... starbuck-ness. It gives us the hard to digest stuff but also the hypest of hype moments too, even drunkard XO Saul gets his moments to shine in the spotlight.

She set the meetings and all of that without telling him, and he let it go expecting it to ultimately come to nothing. She eventually made a promise she shouldn't have which caused her falling out and going to Galactica. Not sure if you picked it up but her saying she was going to Galactica firmly establishes that these flash backs are within days of the Cylon attack and just before the start of the series.
