40 billion yen in US dollars the day the original chapter released and adjusted for inflation is $754,172,211.00. 66 Trillion yen in US dollars using the same exchange rate and adjusted for inflation is $1,205,794,125,673.18. So if these bets were being made is US dollars in 2025 the last bet would have been 1.2 Trillion dollars which is an insane amount of money that far exceeds any individuals net worth even the top .1% of the 1% don’t have that kind of net worth. However in terms of countries GDP 66 Trillion yen is way more than Japan’s GDP for that year, but not other countries like the US. Keep in mind the jewels created by Yukina’s tears are said to sell for hundreds of millions in the original manga, so even if we take the high end of that and say they’re worth 900 million yen a piece, in 2025 US dollars that’s only $16,442,647.15. When they did manage to make her cry she only produced 4 or 5 tears which would be $82,213,235.75 on the high end. You can’t flood the market with the jewels or the value will crash, so the most you could make off the jewels each year while maintaining the market price is maybe $100 million, that’s not gonna get you anywhere close to $1.2 trillion in your lifetime, so Togashi really was just throwing out unrealistic numbers for shock value that didn’t actually make any sense

This show is a great series! Im glad I made the right decision on joining already after watching this episode!

Triple Y

Yusuke is actually progressive. He doesn’t care about gender or age. Equal rights for these equal left fists

Kickinthescience

I’m glad y’all are starting to get into it! I know for some people the first 20 episodes are a bit slow. Love the reaction to this episode

You have to remember yusuke was just a teenage dirtbag, he got a second chance cause the whole saving a kids life at the cost of his own so hes not that bad thing but he was still a little hooligan. Spending his days cutting class and just basically kicking the shit out of other kids in mini gang wars. Not to mention he was always doing this stuff with keiko, hell to the point when he needed her to realize it was him instantly he did it by honking her milk missiles from behind, and she instantly thought it was his ass despite the fact he should have been dead. Yusuke might be the hero but hes still a teenage dirtbag.

this is the one episode that didn't age... great and i go back and forth about how bad it actually is...

What I love about Togashi is that he takes his time to show how badass are some of the characters + the heroes and villains have their own different motivations appart from the classic "I wanna be the strongest there is". Case in point, Yusuke is the mansion because of his job, Kuwabara has a crush on Yukina and Hiei wants to rescue his sister.

Javi alias Hiei

This is technically a spoiler, we learn his name in a later episode.

I... no. It was weird then. Y'know for all the trans people and questioning trans kids and literally anyone who doesn't like watching a woman get groped and harassed. The only thing I'll give Togashi credit for, and its this kernel here that is only reason I can see how he could go on to write Alluka, but he explicitly has Yusuke say that his clocking of her is something that he (Yusuke) doesn't think matters. Togashi clearly had an inkling that this kind of rote and rapey transphobia was nonsense but wasn't mature enough to fully realize it, and had to write a weekly manga for horny boys with lots of gags so I'll always criticize him for this character but never lambast him for it, especially since he went on to write Alluka.

"If you even step into the ring against me, run me my fade! Win, lose or draw; like Pokemon I'll catch 'em all!" - Yusuke Urameshi

Yeah, this is one of those episodes where it's weird now but not then. The fact that Miyuki is trans is pretty progressive for the time but the way in which Togashi used Miyuki here leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. And then how Yusuke seems to lecture Miyuki by saying basically "cut your d*ck off if you're a woman" is just....yeah. 😬 Glad Togashi grew up in this regard. Probably his wife's influence.

As others mentioned, it's trillion yen not $! which still is hundreds of billion $, but the amount will make sense later on, it's not just a shock factor.

Flev Dorin

66t yen was about $500b in 1992, still a stupid amount of money.

Flev Dorin

In terms of Yen, 66 Trillion is around 400 Billion.

Thee Ex Machina

I appreciate Togashi as an author for growing, there are multiple trans and non-binary characters in Hunter X Hunter that are accepted for who they are by the story and characters. Killua uses his sister’s preferred pronouns while their family ignores them

Guys... this is not a cartoon show made in the US. All the Black Black Club members have Japanese names. They talk in Japanese in the original version. The show is set in Japan. So... crazy theory... perhaps their bets are in yens and not dollars? 🙄

FIRST: I'm so used to watching Big 3 reactions that I forgot there was long-running anime in this time-period that had lightning-fast pacing! I misremembered this little mini arc as being WAY more episodes than this. 😛 SECOND: As has been mentioned, the dub did not, in fact, change things. At least not in the uncut version you're watching. Problematic as it is, the way they chose to censor it in the broadcast actually made it worse in my opinion. By getting rid of the groping AND the trans context, it made me weirded out watching this on Toonami when Miyuki complains about being handled with kiddie gloves because she's a girl, and Yusuke responding "Gimme' a break. I'm treating you like I would any other fighter!"...before grabbing her crotch and throwing her against a wall; with Kuwabara then going "Maybe she's...faking it?" 😅 THIRD: Ogre is what's called in Japan an oni...which basically translates to "ogre". 😛 Japanese ogres, or oni, are a very common yokai in Japanese folklore. They come in red and blue varieties, and are most commonly found guarding souls in the afterlife. In DBZ, not only do you have King Yama, but you also have lots of oni milling about just like in this show. You can see them talking to past villains in their jail cells in Hell (HFIL in the broadcast version).

#SundayRundown Blue ogre is just called Blue Ogre for now. Fun fact: he's an anime only character. And we're all the richer for it.

Smash Bran'Discootch

Honestly not sure about the youtube thing. Maybe for algorithm/views but even then other shows like the bear and bad batch get lower numbers. I REALLY hope they arnt stopping after the first and imo worst Saga on patreon too since patreons have been waiting and voting for YuYu hard.

PKKite

Wait are they still continuing the series and NOT uploading to Youtube or are they just stopping after this arc???

Gunzz TheCreator

was about to reply, but honestly, you summed it all up perfectly great comment, man. Hope they all your comment on Sunday Rundown! The only thing I’d add is that I don’t think Yusuke was trying to grope her in a pervy way. It seemed more like he was genuinely unsure if she was a woman, like something felt off to him. That said, he also wasn’t going to complain if it turned out she was, which still isn’t great—but I don’t think it was meant maliciously, just really poorly handled, lol.

CodePhoenix13

#SundayRundown #Yuyuhakusho To answer Chris's question Miyuki, the female demon in the Triad is and has always been trans. The actual edit for this ep was to censor it out completely including Kuwabara's blackmailing bit. Also the Blue Ogre name is Jorge but Keonma always calls him Ogre

All Mighty Lowercase Jay

#SundayRundown So the fight vs Miyuki was actually censored in the dub for the TV broadcast on cartoon network/toonami the uncut dub was aired on adult swim iirc and on home release/streaming. If you jump to 3:49 in particular the reveal is instead she is faking her injures which doesn't make sense with the line of "I don't think it matters" or the gesture Yusuke makes. They removed all references to her being trans. https://youtu.be/OS1s7x6K0do?si=445e2ofM3J440-PY Arguably this scene can be seen as progressive at the time albeit misguided still. (especially when dubs were censor heavy with LGBTQ+ characters like the sailor moon dub "cousins" vs sub lesbian couple removing the existence of the LGBTQ+ from the media completely no matter the light) The idea is that Yusuke doesn't care who he fights man, woman, old, or young. He sees it as a 1v1 vs a individual for example saying he doesn't think whether or not the demon is a woman matters in the end.

PKKite

I mean, Yusuke IS a delinquent. He skips classes, smoke and steal and has upshirt girls like it is nothing, like we see him doing to Keiko on the FIRST episode... thats the thing, he is not the usual "good guy" like a normal main character would be. He is a Punk, with a good heart, but a punk. Thats why his atitude makes sense at least in that time. He saying that he doesn't care if the demon is a she or he and she should decide what she is an go all the way is, in his way, togashi being actually a person with progressive mindset for that time. But yeah, this episode is highly controversial by our standards now

Gabriel Moreira

Yusuke and Kuwabara being like Double Dragon is such a cool reference and comparison! Hadn't thought about that before
