Despite some backlash I might face I gotta say I’m one of those people that doesn’t like TLOU2, but my critique is not rooted in Joel's death or the inclusion of a lesbian couple, but rather in the disorganized story structure that led to a personal disengagement with all characters by the end of the game. The show has failed to capture the more positive elements of the game, presenting a narrative that feels more like a leisurely detour than a driven quest for vengeance. Ellie's portrayal lacks the vengeful intensity present in the game, a disservice really given that her character arc was a highlight of Part II. The writers' failure to fully realize this arc is probably my biggest gripe, and I’m apprehensive about the decision to extend the story over two additional seasons and can only hope that the production team addresses the criticisms regarding pacing and faithful adaptation of characters.

#SundayRundown I haven’t played the games but got spoiled on pretty much everything that happens. One thing I keep seeing Game players angry at is the fact that Ellie knows about Abby’s father. As someone who hasn’t played the games I actually love that she knows because now Ellie has to resolver herself to the fact that she is just like Abby and therefore is being hypocritical in her quest for revenge. This is evident in 3 specific scenes in this episode 1. Her convo with Dina 2. Her argument with Jesse 3. Her confrontation with Owen and Mel. In her convo with Dina it’s the first time she admits to everything Joel did to someone else and you could see that for Dina, this changes everything and her need for revenge is now calmed down with having the full story. But Ellie being blinded by Rage and grief cannot see that. In her fight with Jesse she accuses Jesse of being a hypocrite basically saying he can’t call her bad because if it happened to him, he would want revenge, she says this while also refusing to acknowledge that in trying to justify her actions, she is also justifying Abby’s because just like Ellie, Abby also lost her father and blindly sought revenge and yet Ellie still refuses to allow herself to acknowledge that, whereas Dina was able to. Lastly in her confrontation with Owen and Mel, Owen says that Ellie will kill them anyways and she replies by saying “I won’t because I’m not like you.” But she refuses to realize that comment makes no sense because they actually LET her live, she’s able to confront them now because they allowed her to live instead of just killing her. But she can’t acknowledge that, she can’t let the rational part of her brain tell her this information because then she wouldn’t be able to go on, and she NEEDS to, like Chris said, she is like an addict. This shift in the story is so good to me because by Ellie outright refusing to acknowledge these things, we pretty much know there will be a time when she can no longer disregard it and it will all come crashing down on her, to me it makes for a better internal conflict in Ellie’s head. Sorry for the long rant but just wanted to express my thoughts on it.

I mean they say she can’t be Rambo like in the games but she already has plot armor out the ass saving her, it wouldn’t be that hard to just actually make her competent. In the game she also feels more like she’s forcing herself into this role to be like Joel where in the show they’re going more for an Ellie has always been like this kind of route.
