Bloomfield is a city in New Jersey Heavy Italian American population, Tony asked for the city from uncle junior to control of illegal activity there. Another great episode

After The Sopranos you should consider Six Feet Under. It aired on HBO around the same time as The Sopranos. It holds up.

Guys, the Sopranos is not making a 9/11 reference in January of 1999. Don't you remember seeing the Twin Towers in Tony's rearview mirror?

Godfather 1 & 2 are masterpieces of cinema. Godfather 3 is a bit of a slog, and that's the one with the reference. You're basically watching Godfather 3 for a 5 second Pacino meme cause that's basically the only thing that came from it. And yeah, back then EVERYONE was doing it for a laugh. But you also have to remember that you're dealing with NY/NJ guys. To them, Godfather is like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. It's not too hard to find some NY/NJ guy who makes EVERYTHING about Godfather. That's why the Sopranos has one.

Also, just to be clear, NY is a separate family, but due to proximity, it works to have NY respect or at least be willing to work with the new acting head of the NJ family.

If I remember correctly, New York and New Jersey are technically separate mob families. But New York is much bigger and has a lot of influence over Italian organized crime. Really in the whole country, not just the New York/New Jersey areas. Because of that, their views/support have to be taken into consideration. As of this episode, Junior is the acting boss. Tony, and the people Tony were meeting with at the strip club are all Capos who each run their own crew. Junior was a fellow capo before Jackie died.

How have some of you all seen all these gangster movies and you don't know what a made man is? A made man is someone who has been officially accepted into the family or organization. Every member of the organization is a made man. It means you are officially part of the family and can't be touched by anyone outside the family. Christopher is still a wannabe mobster (an associate), essentially he's still going through his apprenticeship and hasn't been made yet. The New York family and New Jersey family are two separate entities. Think of it like two kingdoms right next to each other who are on friendly terms. There are in fact five separate Italian mob families in New York, they are known as the five families of New York, each with their own specific territory within New York. So New Jersey has ties to one of those families.

I think you guys slightly misunderstood the situation with Jackie. Jackie was the one who became acting boss 2 years before after the old guy went to prison. The old boss wasn't making any decisions, it was all Jackie. Also Guillermo Diaz, the guys from Half Baked, actually has a very diverse career. His biggest role besides that film is his major recurring role on the Showtime show Weeds. Back when that show was on it was one of the hottest things around.

But Suraj has heard from his millennial friends that The Godfather is a slog..πŸ™„

You really just have to adjust your movie reaction schedule and fast track watching The Godfather and Goodfellas. It’s too integral in appreciating the show
