2025-05-18 19:40:32 +0000 UTCblack hawk down is a curious case because people say us involvment is bad which i mostly agree with but they always skip over the fact that the somali people were being genocided, 300,000 people starved to death in 1992 alone , then the un got involved which the factions doing the famine started shooting at UN peacekeepers, which then caused the us to get involved, overall 10,000 somalis died from 1993-95 due to us involvment obviously still too much but it is 30 times less than what happened in a single year prior , Its one of those cases where the us gets a insanely bad rep because of our own doing in other situations like vietnam and iraq but somali was not in the same neighborhood

2025-05-18 15:54:10 +0000 UTCalso i would not say black hawk down is anti war. more like a movie to see american soldiers die and be "honorable". kinda skip over the question of why the U.S. was even in Somalia much like other modern day US war movies about the past 25-30 years. I had one of the pilots come to my school and church as a kid and he did not like the movie and how it was done. however he was very anti war and anti american involvment in other countries.

2025-05-18 09:21:01 +0000 UTCalways forget people don't know that a lotta soldiers in the german army at this point in the war were not nazis. at least those on the front lines and then some reserves and of course those who revolted were not. saw that in band of brothers as well and the way they showed just how horrible it was later in the war where it really was kids and older people fighting on the german side as they began to reach the end. Also most of the soldiers and civilian population was not aware of what was going on outside of the war being portrayed as needed. there are a lot of good books and documentaries on it which are pretty interesting.
