What you said about evil will taste sweet, and that this suburban hell that Lindsay was kept in, and now Gunn, hid an ugly truth. Reminds me about that line Holtz told Connor when they got back from Quor'toth: "Remember what I've taught you. The devil will show you bright things, many colors."

That line at the end about heroes not accepting the world as it is, should be reminiscent to Angel as he told Connor back in the very beginning of season 4 something very similar. Angel told him: "Nothing in the world is the way it ought to be. It's harsh and cruel. But that's why there's us. Champions. It doesn't matter where we come from, what we've done or suffered, or even if we make a difference. We live as though the world was what it should be, to show it what it can be." But also, that line about apathy is terribly accurate and relatable especially right now. That also reminds me of that line Bastian said in X-Men '97: "So I hand humanity Genosha. Overload their bandwidth, too much to compute. Because when your skin's not in the game, apathy is your answer."

And poor Tara, when she heard Anya say there's a world with no shrimp she got all excited......cause she's allergic 🥲

#SundayRundown #Angel So you might've noticed in the later episodes you watched, but in addition to adding Illyria scenes to Amy Acker's credits in the opening, they also added Mercedes McNab to the main credits! Who would've thought Harmony, the littlest vampire, would be a main cast member lol. But if you think about it, besides Angel, Harmony is the only character thats been around since Buffy S1.

Good catch by Suraj with Angel bringing up his elevator ride with Holland Manners where Holland explained to Angel that evil will always exist in some form. There is no “winning” this fight for Angel and company. Even if they win an apocalypse battle, evil won’t disappear there’s always a next battle. That’s when Angel has his epiphany where he decides to fight the good fight even knowing that they can never win in the end. Angels moto after that is, “if nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do”. FYI, this is around the time that they found out that the show was being canceled. They thought they were going to be renewed and Joss had longer term plans for the story. Finding out so late that this would be it, they really had to rewrite a lot of the story from here on out to jam in as much as they could.

One of my favorite running jokes is that there’s “a world without shrimp” and “a world with only shrimp”. Anya mentioned it on Buffy and now Illyria went there. Those little continuity details between the shows makes all the difference for me. The attention to detail is appreciated

I absolutely love this scene at the end with Lindsay talking about the apocalypse. It fits so well with the themes of Angel and goes along with what Holland told angel in S2. People think of the apocalypse as this world ending event, filled with fire and destruction, they even made a joke on Buffy once about the apocalypse always happening in May. But here on angel its different, its not just an event, its the human indifference to daily life, the general apathy we can all have about events. It hits very close to home today still. I love Lindsay's line where he says "what did you think would happen, a gong was going to go off, you'd jump on your horse and go fight the big fight". Very unique way to look at the story and subvert expectations regarding the final battle. Heroes don't accept the world the way it is, they fight it.

Making the hell dimension a suburb where people are tortured in the basement was perfect. Evil will taste sweet. It will give you all your heart’s desires. But it masks the horrors underneath. The system itself is built atop those horrors just like Wolfram & Hart was literally built upon the bodies of innocent victims. The apocalypse isn’t some cataclysmic world-ending event. It’s the simple day to day where people sit by and let evil happen just to get by. People just going about their lives without a care as the world decays around them. The apocalypse isn’t fire and brimstone. The apocalypse is apathy and indifference. And the gong rang a long time ago. Heroes don’t accept that world. They fight it. No matter what. Even if the odds are stacked against you and you’ll lose. You fight evil. You don’t compromise with it. Brilliant and timeless message. Especially for right now.

This hell dimension set in suburbia was such a great idea. They went full Desperate Housewives including the music - the show even came out later that same year. "I lived seven lives at once. I was the power and the ecstacy of death. I was god to a god" goes kinda hard 🔥

Lmao at the rest of the couch immediately clocking what Rana was thinking with the 'best scenes' comment. Also felt like Suraj made a good point with the link of the season theme with the example of the current trajectory of climate politics at the end. Edit: Damn just got to 'That's my dog now.' Surak was cooking in the postchat.

Rana needs to keep her glasses on. Confidently say it's not Adam Baldwin when it is. Then confuses every random blonde on the show for Darla. Also they were filming this episode when they found out the show wasn't being renewed for season 6.

Angel is on Disney Plus in the UK, maybe you could use a VPN on your account to watch the last one.

It's always fun to find a cheeky Adam Baldwin snuck into media. I always forget he was in the original Independence Day.
