Comments

Honestly Chris's idea of a horror movie a month is just money haha. Hopefully you guys can get him to just blind react to the last episode of angel with yall

Rey

How is Suraj so good at reading while others are not? What grades did Suraj had on comprehension?

Yumichika

I’m sure Hunter or me or someone else will explain to them eventually that D&D is just a set a rules. But it’s confusing for newer players cause there’s all these pre-established campaign settings so it’s easy to distinguish that as gospel.

Manny D.

It was a good comment but suraj will now be even more confused, he's mixed up the time of troubles with the calamity lol

Macs

Chris, you have to quit teasing with the Berserk shirt.

Big Time Knights

The only issue with that is that even when reading to myself or talking to others, especially that I feel comfortable with I have a lot to say more than I thought I would. Depending on the subject/topic it could be anywhere from 5 to 10 paragraphs long whenever I get my thoughts out. I think I know what I have to do tho to make it more concise. Thanks for the feedback, I’ll be sure to keep that in mind, with about 5 paragraphs being the max.

Conflictor

It isn't about the number of paragraphs but the overall length and read time. I looked at the comments you mentioned and they're all too long but there is space to edit them down. I'd start with removing things that are directly shown in the episode. I.e., in your ep 35 comment you describe again how Shunsui activates his release, they see that in the episode so it wouldn't be too hard to cut that away without taking away from your point. Also be careful because the way you start your episode 21 comment could be a spoiler. Learning to write a lot in a few words is a REALLY difficult skill. It was half of my undergrad and I still struggle. A good way to start is to read what you write aloud to yourself. Try to make the same point verbally as you would to a friend, then reread what you wrote. We often use simpler language in verbal communication and get to the point faster because we're more accustomed to it. That change in communication styles makes us reevaluate and look at our writing differently. Otherwise there're simple questions to consider when editing: 'Does my reader already know this?', 'Does my reader need to know this?', and 'Is there an easier way to say this?'

What would you call a “medium sized paragraph” like how many sentences or lines? The longest ones I’ve wrote (for TYBW anyway) is 7-8 paragraphs.

Conflictor

It's kind of difficult to condense a lot of information into a more concise form and takes practice. It's something I've worked on through the years here in my commentary and it's still difficult at times. For me, commenting on Shogun is difficult not to go full history nerd and write book long commentary. If you can try to explain the key points in medium sized paragraph or two, you'll probably be good.

Chaos T

So I’m assuming you mean the one for Ep 11 where it was a total of 7 paragraphs…. That was the last longest one I did whereas the one for EP 13 was 8 paragraphs long before I edited a sidenote as being a 9th one. The ones that I wrote for Eps 21, 28 & 35 are the longest. So do me a favor, scroll down to the username “TruthCrusader360” and tell me if either of them are too long Ep 21 - https://youtube.com/watch?v=otBSeGnp39s&lc=UgzodGRsvxWSLDrt-254AaABAg&si=o8TQkS4e_oIP3ur3 Ep 28 - https://youtube.com/watch?v=fEKsV_z1MyM&lc=UgwgGrWQ8cGB2tTGpdh4AaABAg&si=kNksX9UlbiTf4oFL and Ep 35 https://youtube.com/watch?v=M0qXa9ZmFYw&lc=UgwR5iDR_Uf7cvgZXVR4AaABAg&si=Kp_649008Jm5MELU

They said Shogun was only a one off series though

Eh the dislike of the later office season isn't really down to being with the show as it's airing for a long time. Cause I think like say, the shifts in 'community' for instance (ex. like changing britta's character and having more concept episodes) was well received even as that show was airing. It's that the shift in the office just feels lazier at times, again, like say giving andy lines that michael would say, or the side characters contorting more to the gags rather than having their quirks be developed more. Not always the case (florida stanely for instance is a great example of expanding on stanley's traits of cheating), but it happens enough that it doesn't always feel fresh. There's been other shows that went through similar paradigm shifts that were better received.

Imu is a character in One Piece

Yumichika

I haven't set a hard length limit (although I might have to eventually given how long so many of the comments are) but consider what's reasonable given the amount of time they have. All I do right now is copy and paste into a doc and if it's close to or over a page then I don't send it. Your comment in last week's rundown (the 1st one) would be a good length to aim for as a limit. I just ask that people try to condense where possible because there's a lot to get through and not much time.

penguin299

@penguin299 Are you the one that sends them our comments and if so, how many paragraphs would you say should be the maximum limit for future reference? If they truly read all our comments, then they need to at least heart them to let us know that they at least saw and acknowledged it.

Conflictor

“Omakase” is roughly “I leave it to you”, which is a form of dining in which the customer signs up for a spot st the counter, with no set menu, letting the chef essentially freestyle you a meal right in front of you. You trust the chef, he aims to give you a fun experience. Critical’s Role’s style of D&D operates in similar fashion to a degree, because the cast often leaves many chunks of their character’s backstory blank and lets Matt fill in the blanks. I echo the Diimension 20 (Dropout’s D&D brand) suggestion. They are MUCH more condensed, and the brand is basically an anthology which most seasons being a new story and setting, with a couple series getting multiple seasons. Each season ranges from 4 to 20 episodes and were mostly all pre-recorded, rather than live, with HEAVY post production. The biggest difference is that Critical Role is made of voice actors playing D&D, while dimension 20 is comedians playing D&D. Both have extremely talented casts.

OptionZero

Sorry, I liked your comment and wanted to send it was just too long. You see how much of the SDR that Bleach already takes up. I try (and fail most times) to at least somewhat limit how much reading they have to do. They do read all the comments off-camera, so if you're worried about them not seeing critical info, then dw they've read it.

penguin299

I agree with Shockzz on this one. It sucks when you're like "This is information they NEED to know!", and you write it all out carefully, only for it to not get chosen. But they've said that they do read all the comments themselves, even if they don't get chosen for the Rundown, and I'd rather there be a variety of comments chosen for the Rundown, rather than just the top liked ones, which are inevitably the same information repeated.

Nabeshin

It's really fun to watch your YuYu reactions no matter what, but the next arc is definitely a milestone. Looking forward to what y'all think. 👍🏽

Nabeshin

Also them reading IMU as I Miss You on the One Piece readalong was really funny :) One day you'll all be there...one day.

Shockzz1234

Then they really need to come up with a better method cause this ain’t it as it’s arguably worse.

Conflictor

Meh i think the current way they do it is fine tbh, saves them reading the same thing over and over again. I understand it must be annoying to not have your well thought out comment that you put a lot of effort into not be chosen though. But not every comment is gonna get read either way, so it's really just luck both ways.

Shockzz1234

38:22 just to clarify, Renji's Zanpakuto spirit is a monkey AND a snake, not just a snake. Which explains the monkey (girl on the left)

Kayso

I wanna say something about the moment where Old Man Zangetsu can't say Yhwach's name soooooo SO bad, specfically the manga version of that scene, but alas we must wait till later in the series. IYKYK lmao.

Shockzz1234

No, Imu in One Piece does NOT mean I MISS U 😂 (it's a name and also means "sea" in Japanese)

Chris K.

LMAO Suraj your BG3 knowledge won't help you in the least as all of that lore only exists within the critical role campaign.

Smash Bran'Discootch

Never been so disappointed in my comments not being showcased which are must reads, especially for this finale episode that I put so much effort in…… it’s bad enough you guys don’t read my keyword page translations instead of the Reddit ones that you’re going to need especially for Eps 23-25 that they never did. Normies please just go back to scrolling through the comments for the most liked ones cause this method is not it.🙏

Conflictor

I can’t believe you that comment 😂 I’m glad you did but I wasn’t expecting it lol
