These weapons were made to fight gods and each are connected particular gods could probably do it. But the lore is just so interesting! Edit: I wrote “connected to a god” originally but then remembered I’m playing a campaign where one of the PC has The Jewel of Three Prayers 😂

Okay this is fantastic. I...don't know how this could be condensed because there's so much important and relevant information here!

Smash Bran'Discootch

I have until they do the Sunday rundown to figure out how to condense that 😂

#sundayrundown TLOVM - I have returned, with a lore drop! None of this is necessary to understand the show, don't worry. This lore drop is a simplified explanation of the Vestiges of Divergence and their historical context! So Exandria existed before the gods. The gods found Exandria, which was then inhabited by primordial titans and elemental energy (Campaign 3 heavily explores this, so I'm keeping it vague). The gods then started creating their children, aka the mortals who now inhabit Exandria - humans, elves, gnomes etc. (not children in the gave birth sense, but in the creation sense). Because the world was dangerous, the gods gifted magic to their children to help them survive. Eventually the titans and the gods started fighting for control of the world and the gods split between who wanted to stay and fight for the world and their children, and those who wanted to give up/went mad. The ones who wanted to stay became known as the Prime Deities (like The Everlight). The ones who didn't became known as the Betrayer Gods. The Prime Deities won, defeated the Titans, and banished the Betrayer Gods from the material plane. This is known as The Schism. After that began the high point of mortal society in Exandria - the Age of Arcanum. This age brought about the highest point of power and magic mortals ever attained (one mortal even figured out how to replace the god of death with herself). However, eventually the machinations of these all powerful wizards brought about The Calamity - the Betrayer Gods returned and a war broke out between the Primes and Betrayers and their respective armies. (There is a 4 part mini-series called EXU Calamity - it's objectively the best d&d live play ever. Highly recommend. No prior CR needed to watch.) The Calamity lasted centuries and nearly destroyed Exandria. It's during this time the weapons that became known as the Vestiges of Divergence came into play. Insanely powerful magical weapons forged to wage war on gods. The first we're introduced to by Osysa is the Deathwalker's Ward, a set of armor belonging to The Matron of Ravens (goddess of death and fate). Eventually the Prime Deities won, however they saw what the gods being on the material plane cost the world and decided they would retreat from the material plane behind the Divine Gate (they can still affect the world, but not devastate it like during the Calamity). The period of their leaving is known as the Divergence (a miniseries set during the Divergence is currently airing!) The period that TLOVM takes place in now is known as "post Divergence" or "PD". Specifically Vox Machina's campaign takes place during 810-812 PD. And the world is far less technologically advanced since much of the knowledge from the Age of Arcanum was lost during The Calamity, so TLOVM is also technically a post-apocalypse show! And yes - this was the short version. I left a lot out. Matt has been lore dumping these events for 10 years, 3 Campaigns, and now 2 mini series.

Who pays people just to spoil them? gtfo

Manny D.

Not really fan service. This is what happened at the table, so would you call that fan service? All they did was condense down the amount of times Percy goes back to him.

Erich Bomke

it 1000% is. Why patreon has always needed mods to delete comments. Not only that but they also pasted this same comment on the video.

Erich Bomke

don't you think that's a bit spoilery though?

#sundayRundown wow is that the raven queen ? I hope surj know her

Ernel Ercilla

I've got a pretty long one that I'm saving for a couple weeks from now so I'll hold off for now.

Smash Bran'Discootch

I don't think fanservice is a bad thing by the way, especially for a show born out of fan's love, and I don't believe I said it ONLY was fanservice either, though I understand how you might infer that, I just wanted to highlight that this was a big wink for critters from cr, and that's GREAT!

#SundayRundown Fun behind the scenes- the concept of the team falling into a trap that forces them to examine themselves was an early story idea for the series introductory 2 episodes; however they shelved it because it didnt make sense to do something like that before actually introducing the team overtly. They brought it back here in modified form Earthbreaker Groon is a great example of how Matt, as DM, comes up with NPCs so suit the journey of each party member. He’s big, he’s badass, and he teaches through beating’s Grog ass. Contrast with Percy, who learns from his sister, Keeper Yenin, and a town of zombies. It’s a character omakase at Matt’s table.

"It's not me you have to worry about letting down. Only each other."- me watching the Normies trying to stop the next episode lmao

Kendall DeSouza

To be fair it wasn't JUST fan service, even in the campaign Victor said Ripley bought black powder from her

HalGLC

VICTOOOOR, the black powder merchant at the end!! This scene is a bit of a fanservice one, although they were clever to put the reveal of Ripley there to justify it for non-critters, but it is one of the funniest scene in the campaign, completely improvised by Matt because he didn't expect Percy to go buy black powder suddenly. I won't say more because I am 100% sure it's gonna be included in your table-to-screen compilation, but it is legendary and I can't wait!!

#Sundayrundown fun fact this is will friedle (who voice kashaw)first ever swear In an animation Show. He's famous Eric Matthew in boys meet world. But in his voice acting career he's recognizable as Ron stoppable in Kim Possible, and my favorite non bruce wayne batman Terry McGinnis in Batman Beyond. Here's a clip of critical role and will reaction to that scene on tiktok https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP82JTPdt/
