I love this episode. While it is bitter sweet, it's a good send off for Cordelia compared to where they left things with her at the end of Season 4. And I agree with Suraj, having that group of characters all in the same room is "chef's kiss"!

In the initial script and the filming of the first scenes with Lindsey, Whedon made his fake name something other than Doyle. The script got leaked to the fans and there was a lot of buzz about Lindsey's return and that he was using a fake name, but it was still a surprise when the episode came out and he was using "Doyle".

In the DVD commentary they talk a lot about all the sitting / lying down scenes and Boreanaz points out scenes where he is limping or wobbly, which of course works because he is supposed to be ill.

RUTH C

You are correct that the apartment "Doyle" puts Spike in is a call-back to Angel's Season One apartment, including using some of the same props and furniture.

In the DVD commentary, which has Boreanaz, Christian Kane and the episode's writer, they say that the big parasite was a specially made puppet-style creature controlled with rods that cost $80,000. And it wasn't able to do certain moves that director Boreanaz wanted, so a lot of the scenes used a much cheaper practical squishy.

Does anyone know if there's a livestream coming today for episodes 13-15?

Spike saving the girl in the alley is pretty much the same scene from s1ep1 with angel saving girl only instead of being angsty yelling at her to get out of here and leaving, Spike berates her for being an idiot ad tells her to go home and stop being dumb completely different style same result. Its hilarious

#SundayRundown #Angel This is just my opinion/theory but regarding Angel's dream with Buffy and Spike having sex, I always wondered why they brought up those specific lines of dialogue from Buffy episode "The Prom". When she says: "Can you say jumping the gun? I killed my goldfish." , its interesting that just a few minutes earlier in the Fred dissection dream, Fred removes a fishbowl from Angel's body and says thats his soul, and that the fish (soul) is dead. The way I interpreted those scenes is that is how Angel subconsciously imagines his soul to be, or at least because of that convo he had with Buffy in The Prom episode, because in a way he may have internalized Buffy having been responsible for killing his soul (or the ensouled Angel) when they slept together in S2 of Buffy and he became Angelus. Which also ties in with how Buffy viewed herself in that whole scenario back in the S2 episode "I only have eyes for you". She blamed herself for "killing" the person she loved and she couldn't forgive herself, until the end of the episode and from then on was able to move past that trauma in order to do what needed to be done and kill Angelus.

I like to think the bear appearing in his fever dream is a little callback to when Faith told him (about how she felt after the whole Orpheus drug trip): "Like I did 'shrooms and got eaten by a bear."

A Buffy reboot without Whedon would be like Community season 4 without Dan Harmon. For better or worse, Whedon was the one that made the show so unique. Also, all the old characters that are supposed to be immortal have aged more than 2 decades in real life. Angel is supposed to be 26 and David Boreanaz is already 55. Perhaps a miniseries reunion like the did for Gilmore Girls... 🤔

I agree 😅. I’m very hesitant about this reboot. I feel like it will go the way of most other reboots where it feels like a soulless cash grab. Especially since I heard a rumor that Buffy is supposed to be mired in tragedy where she feels like she can’t escape the pain of being a Slayer. Again. This flies in the face of the optimism of the ending where Buffy finally broke free of her Slayer chains and could take whatever path she wanted. She could finally become a cookie. Taking her back to the pain of a Slayer seems like a massive regression. But who knows. It could be good.

Party pooper here - I don't have faith in this sadly. So over these mentor role reboots where the character you actually wanna see is hardly there, gets killed off or is unrecognizably written. Some sweet girl is gonna be the new protag i assume that most people wont care about however, instead keep asking where the old Gang is. Also this wont work without Whedon, but it also wont work WITH Whedon obviously... But SMG just wants to work and I respect it, so I'll still give it a chance.

David Boreanaz had knee surgery when this episode was filming, which is why Angel’s sitting/lying down for most of this episode. He also directed this episode.

Brendan O'Connor

Yeah it’s not one of the highlights, but it has its moments.

Not a big fan of this episode, but they were stretching their creative muscles

SpikesEcho

They’ll probably just ignore the comics. Regardless of opinion, I think it’s for the best. They can start with a blank slate.

#SundayRundown This episode gives big Restless vibes (Buffy 4x22). The guy in the bear suit is reminiscent of the cheese guy. Just pure representation of the randomness of dreams 😂 Also you all picked a good time to become Buffy fans because there is a potential Buffy sequel in the works. It would basically be a re-quel (reboot + sequel courtesy of Scream 5 😉) as it would star a new cast with SMG returning as a recurring mentor role. With that, I wouldn’t expect much of the original cast showing up if at all. It hasn’t been greenlit yet, but if Hulu likes the pilot then it could go to series. Chloe Zhao (Nomadland, Eternals) is set to direct the pilot. Apparently, she’s a big Buffy fan.

i know it isn't really angel-related but did you hear about the possible Buffy reboot on Hulu? what do you feel about it?? The article states that joss whedon wont be a part of it so i wonder how they will follow the after series comics or go in a new direction... here's the article: https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/buffy-the-vampire-slayer-revival-hulu-sarah-michelle-gellar-pilot-1236291559/

I really enjoyed this episode. The dream hijinks in the Buffyverse are always fun (shoutout to the Cheese-Man), but I love how this episode ties directly into the themes of the season. Team Angel trying their best to justify their existence running the shows overall Big Bad (shoutout to Fred literally saying: "We haven't sold out, we're changing the place from the inside!" and Gunn pointing out how naive it sounded when actually said out loud.) i especially love the visual of Gunn and Wesley arriving at Spike's apartments in suits, leading the audience to immediately identify them as the bad guys without them having to utter a single word.
