It has been implied and yeah, im a bit worried about elaborating it in further detail because of upcoming scenes and episodes. But lifespan is something that has been brought up in the series and if we factor in that a soul for a soul is not of equal value that means each soul is of different value making them in compatible for equivalent exchange and if you were to make a stone with 200, 100 per stone. The two stones would be different in appearance and even number of use. As for physical condition... eh thats a difficult one to say but it is possible. But given your comment, it does start to make sense why Amestris is a military nation, it means they are conditioning their men and women into fit and able bodied soldiers.

#SUNDAYRUNDOWN Yu Yu Hakusho. Hmm all these years later and yusukes shotgun reveal still hits just as hard, he was cold with it when he popped it. As far as anime shonen training goes how does yusukes stack up to the others?

Kurama and Hiei are badass 😏

Javi alias Killua alias Hiei

#SundayRundown #YuYuHakusho Now that Hiei has officially joined the gang (what a twist!), I can finally say this without being somewhat spoilery. While Kurama was always meant to become part of the group (which is why Togashi made him so sympathetic to being with) this is not the case for our short king Hiei. He was supposed to leave the story after the same mini arc that introduced him. The change happened because of Togashi’s editor (Toshimasa Takahashi, RIP), who saw the potential of Hiei as a character. The funny thing is… this is exactly what happened with a “certain someone” that you’re already very familiar with, and it’s also heavily related to Hiei. Sasuke Uchiha (THE GOAT) was not meant to exist. In the early concept of Naruto Kishimoto felt like the story was still lacking something. His editor (Kosuke Yahagi) gave him the idea of creating a rival figure for Naruto. And thus, the second most important character in that story was born. This is also how Sakura came to be. Editors can surely make or break a series! Sasuke’s concept is also filled with inspirations from Togashi. His appearance and demeanor came from Hiei, while the lust for revenge over an exterminated clan and the special scarlet eyes came from Kurapika. Togashi’s influence on the manga and anime medium is something both fascinating and scary. Truly a legendary figure. And he’s still cooking to this day! The current Hunter x Hunter manga arc is… just absurd. Hopefully it will get adapted, eventually. #SundayRundown #FMAB It’s Xerxes time, baby! RIP to all of those guys (not you, King…). More context about Homunculus (aka Father) looking like Pride (aka Selim). It’s actually the other way around. FMA takes a lot of inspiration from religion (mainly Christianity), and so it goes by the philosophy of “God made the first man, Adam, in his own image”. This is exactly what happened here. Since Pride was the first homunculus (excluding the original Dwarf in the flask), Father decided to give him his own appearance. This reinforces the fact that Father is extremely sinful, since Christianity considers pride as the first and worst sin. Homunculus needing Hohenheim’s help to get out of the flask also confirms how powerless he was. Had he been just like Pride (aka a psycho killer shadow) he would have just rampaged on his own and conquered Xerxes that way. Establishing Father as proudful makes for some fine writing, since it makes the main villain a perfect foil to our main character. Edward is extremely full of himself. He always was an exceptionally talented alchemist, being such a prodigy that he became the youngest one of them all. This massively inflated his ego, which ended up backfiring. He thought he was so cool that he would’ve been able to perform human transmutation. But we’ve established how that’s not an option, regardless of the talent of the alchemist. Simply because there’s nothing as valuable as even a single human life, so the concept of equivalent exchange can’t be applied. This is also why philosopher stones are so powerful. Since they’re powered by the most precious thing of all (human souls), they can bypass any restriction of equivalent exchange.

100% agree with everything. I think the idea of the Big 3 is just confusing them, since it's more about those mangas/animes being a cultural phenomenon in the west, and mostly based on their timing, rather than their tropes or the quality of their writing. Personally, I think it would be for the best if they just stopped thinking about the Big 3 as a concept, since it's clearly confusing their understanding of the development and evolution of the manga/anime medium. Also HUGE PROPS for mentioning Nana. Such a beautiful story. It's a shame that they're probably never going to react to it, since that kind of anime doesn't do well in their polls, which is why I think they should rework the entire selection process. Some of them would absolutely love Nana, just like many other shows that will sadly never win a poll. And it's a shame cause those shows are popular and would get them many views! I genuinely think the issue lies in the way the polls are handled. :(

i've held off watching FMAB reactions for a few weeks because I wanted to binge a bunch ending with this one, here we go

Don't know if that's true, but just to play with the idea a theory to support that would be that since biologically a human's natural lifespan is actually predetermined and you assume all of the energy that physically would be spent over the course of that life (ageing/growth/healing etc) also goes to the stone. The "soul" could also just be that sum total of physical energy, so argueably the best "material" would be a healthy new born baby, or if it does gain potency similar to a human then up to a person's prime (late 20's-30's)

#Sunday Rundown FMAB - The convo about why is FMA not "popular" is a non convo imo. It's IMMENSELY popular. The manga sold over 1 million per volume back when it was coming out (something even Bleach and Naruto rarely did, though One Piece easily does it, even today hah) and the anime is hugely popular. You can look at sites like MyAnimeList (MAL) where it's the 3rd most popular anime and the second highest rated of all time (which was replaced by Frieren recently, though i don't agree with it but, well, the people have spoken) or AniList where it's 11th most popular and 3rd highest rated etc. people LOVE it. Even on more "non anime" sites like IMDb it's got a 9.1/10 with 214k votes, same rating as AoT. Even 16 years later (or 24 years later, for the manga lol), it's still loved. There’s a reason you’re reacting to it AGAIN on this channel with a different group lol. As for the Big 3 - it should be noted that it's purely a western term. Japan doesn't use it at all. The "Big 3" does not exist in Japan as a group. It's just used by us in the West because they were the most influential/popular anime or manga back then in the west, but there was still other huge series out there back then that sold just as well or even outsold Bleach/Naruto (for example, a series called Nana which a lot of people in the west don't know but it was the best selling manga in 2005 and constantly sold over 1 mil per volume as well). (On an adjacent note - here's an image if you wanna see the highest selling manga for the last 44~ years btw lol - https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fnwa19x64y1qc1.png)

Shoutout to Chris for yanking their attention toward the TV this episode. Props.

#SundayRundown #YuYuHakusho Well I want to see at least ONE Yu Yu comment, so this one's for you, Suraj. You mentioned the Maze Castle cliff looking like a ship. There's real life cliff in a forest that looks very-much like that place...but I don't know what it's called. And I couldn't find it when I tried to look it up. But I did find this! A weird resort that's basically a cruise ship on a cliff: https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/sun-cruise-resort-and-yacht# ...Yeah, not the best comment. I'll try harder next time. EDIT: Oh! There is another Yu Yu comment. Well...now there's 2. Huzzah.

Chris got so excited when he saw that episode name. And rightfully so, it drops some of the biggest truth bombs of the series.

#Sunday Rundown(FMAB) - It's FINALLY this episode. I've been sitting on this for a WHILE now. The homonculous in the flask suggests a couple of names to give slave 23; the first is Theophrastus Bombastus before suggesting Von Hoenheim. It sounds like the names are silly and random, but they are a direct reference to the Alchemist Paracelsus who is also known as Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim. I've spoken of paracelsus before even mentioning he had his own method for creating a homonculous. In the anime, they show blood being used in conjuction with a flask to somehow create this artificial being. Well, Paracelsus had theorized if you took semen and sealed it up into a container with rotted meat or horse dung for 40 days, it would create life. Then if you aged it for 40 weeks, it would take the form of a tiny person and have magical powers as well as know the secrets of the universe. They kept the basic idea of..uh...*life material* being sealed up in a jar and turning into the homonculous. Just another of the many details that show how much the mangaka knew her stuff.

I wasn't going to comment, but I feel the need to straighten something out. With regards to the philosopher stone and why they dont just take the sick, elderly, criminals (well they do) or those that are near death is because they need their souls and their souls are essentially their life force/energy. So, if you intend to make a philosopher stone, you need decent materials and a lot of it, as seen with what happened in Xerxes to create a stone that is equivalent in size and power. One person is not enough, let alone those who arent in the best conditions so to speak. Even if the soul (material) are all the same, the value of the soul is different per individual. Hence even if you sacrifice 50 people to create 5 souls, 10 people per stone. The resulting stone is always different shape and size and limited nunber of uses.

Kuro

Something I only noticed recently is that Father has the same VA as Blake's dad in RWBY, and Hoenheim has the same VA as All for One in the MHA dub.

Patrick

for YYH: Notice the animation bump? it keeps getting more crisp and defined as the series goes on. Makes the fights much better too!

SilentCilantro

the next 24 episodes on fmab are going into overdrive. I cant wait to see their reactions!

I've been looking forward to the crew hitting this episode of FMA:B for a while now. Can't wait to see how the reveals hit everyone on the couch.
