@Veya I do gotta wonder if the Tiktokification of media has kinda soured people on longer seasons with more stretched out character arcs. No one is used to a 20 episode season anymore we're lucky if we crack double digit episodes, the Penguin did have legitimate arcs but something like the Sopranos characters where we sit and get to know these characters on a more intimate level is foreign to some people.

@HouseDogget Try going back and doing a rewatch of the Sopranos because the script and the parallels and the cinematography are all just top notch. Not going into spoilers, but Sopranos always got labeled as like "high art tv" for its more experimental scenes which confused some people back then, but I always thought the show excelled much more in it's themes and writing. Sometimes people can't get over watching media without the shiny gloss of "recency" over it and that's understandable, especially for people that didn't live it, but there's always something to be said for period pieces so to each their own.

You aren't even really addressing what I'm saying, it feels like I'm talking to a wall. It's dated in it's editing (as all older shows are). It's storytelling style is pretty much similar to any episodic/serialization mix regardless of era. They have watched Atlanta before. It's pretty much that but a bit more serialized. Fans and critics have already compared it to Penguin. Penguin is more streamlined but Sopranos isn't trying to be streamlined, that's why there are one off episodes. I guarantee you Penguin isn't going to make all time greats list. And also, if you want to compare different eras of shows. Succession has done some stuff Sopranos has done, without getting into spoilers, Sopranos still did it better more than 15 years ago.

Sopranos final season especially the back half and the ending are one of the most acclaimed of all time. I honestly think you would benefit from reading more analysis and reviews of the show. It's absolutely the show people glaze it to be because of it's influence and it's deep examination of its characters and relationships. The show went down hill when two specific women characters left the show.

It's literally made top 1 on 2024 lists. So yes they're accounting for the 20 years of television since then. Being slower and sillier isn't a bad thing and if anything is part of it's acclaim since it's more balanced overall. Few shows oscillates between being funny and brutal the way this show does. Some of the violence on this show aren't really replicated anymore (like a rape that isn't cut away from and the type of domestic violence).

Well there's been twenty years of tv since then. And yeah it's on a lot of list. Just like The Wire is on a bunch of list. And the running joke of the wire is people saying "I really need to watch that". Sopranos gets a lot of credit for being one of those first types of tv shows, one of HBOs first original programming hits. I just recently rewarched it and it's slower that Frieren and kinda sillier than Penguin.

You can in fact say that, people don’t have to take it seriously. Also, I’d be genuinely surprised if much of the normies actually enjoy vampire diaries vs the other shows on the poll. It is legitimately catered towards a teenage girl demographic and CW has a uniquely YA writing style that isn’t actually like Buffy. Shounen animes are indeed catered towards teenage boys but there are some elements that they seem to enjoy (the fight scenes and power systems) that vampire diaries isn’t even going to provide.

To be honest, it's because of the sheer number of reactors that have been reacting to it lately that bothers me. It was a mediocre show targeting a niche audience that for some bizarre reason is treated as some amazing piece of art. There are legitimately great shows getting ignored in favor of this dirge. That's what annoys me. I agree about anime too.
