If Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious manages to get his hands on it, he will become an omnipotent god and rule over all existence, with power over life, death, time, space, reality, and the entire universe. And he's still hunting for it to this day... So in a way, this was arguably the most important “battle” or “confrontation” in the entirety of Star Wars, even more so than Anakin’s redemption.
