MetaDEV(log) - 7/01/24

Hey Howdy!

The June Gloom is over.

I didn't mention it before but I started a new full time day job last month. I'm done on-boarding and I'm really liking it—low stress, chill boss, and good pay. After a year or so of uncertainty it's nice having something reliable and stable since we don't profit from the development fund as of yet. All of that fund currently goes towards making the game better and helping development continue. Which just so happens to lead us to our first topic...

Funding Goals

I think patreon moves this off to the side if you are already supporting but we've now officially attained four digits of support! And on Subscribestar we've now hit three digits of support! It'll go a long way towards helping bringing some more talent to work on various tasks.

We are also ever closer to our next major goal:

Doubling the 2D art output.

2D Art

Lots of mini-CGs have been produced this past month. Particularly in relation to the Barmaid Job. These will be implemented for 0.2 as we expand the job to make it more interesting/rewarding and less tedious.

Mapping

A bit of standstill here. I haven't heard back from the person previously helping out in nearly a month now. So I am looking into a few different methods of going forward. However I am using the opportunity to talk to a few other devs about how they developed their mapping pipelines too.

One of the methods we are considering will involve a more realistic approach to designing the interiors. Below you can see the results of this with the help of nut.

Combat

Friend is going HAM here. Developing all the stat scaling, abilities, classes, monsters, bosses, etc. The mana shields are a little tricky to balance around but I think he found the path forward. It's honestly looking really good and I can't wait to implement it into the game for our next combat iteration.

He even told me that he is going back and replaying Bravely Default+Second and BD2. I'm jealous.

We should have this first of three snapshot out in soon-time. Hah, basically just cleaning up some of the new content and I still need to implement some of the new images nut drew. Once that is done we'll do a couple playthroughs and push it out.

Starting this cycle, I also want to implement better CI/CD practices to make my life a little easier. Getting those hotfixes out this past weekend was tad annoying/cumbersome with my, uh... current implementation. >.>

Writing

Every day my word count grows...

One task Mrs. MegaloDEV has been continually working on is reviewing Emma's dialogue specifically after certain events. And while not directly writing it does involve writing, she'll also be tackling quests system improvements for 0.2.

There will be "classes" but they will also be static. We are planning on some form of equipment management but don't expect Diablo. Definitely will be a skill system and where we want most of the player customization to be done. And yes. Thanks <3

how deep into combat are you guys thinking of going? classes, equpiment, like a skill system? also, will there be any "Alternates" way to get through combat? Btw loving the game so far!
