Dev Diary and Art Update - Maria Cauter

Hey guys,

Last few days for me have been busy with financial things, long phone calls with my accountant making sure everything is in order (which it is), as well as discussions about the future and myself looking at other ways to generate income.

Everyone backing us on Patreon continues to be a massive help. Without that support I'd have much less time to keep working, designing, and writing, but there's not enough to support both Crimson and myself once the last of the budget is used up. Crimson and I continue to explore options, but due to some interference from other circumstances (namely his roommate moving elsewhere), there's a real chance he'll need to find a full time job which means very little time left over, if any, for Carnal Souls development. Hopefully this shouldn't come as a shock to anyone, since I let everyone know this was a possibility back in the post-Brexit July update.

However, I've had some luck in that a friend of mine (the person that actually introduced me to Crimson, and also a seasoned game developer himself) has offered to help keep things moving along now that he has a little more free time. So even in the worst case scenario, we can still keep development moving along. In the best case scenario we'd gain another developer, but that would require the Patreon hitting the goal within the next month or so.

It's not the best turn of events, but I want to keep everyone updated on the good as well as the not so good. The important thing is we have a way forward, and development will continue, in no small part to the support we've received through Patreon. I can't thank everyone enough. <3

That aside, I wanted to make a quick drawing of Sergeant Maria Cauter, Detective Sergeant Ford's second-in-command in the City Watch. You can read a little about her in the Codex. I fully intend her to be sexable in-game, perhaps fully romance-able later on. She's hard to impress and respects actions over words, and remains a loyal ally to Ford. I have ideas for a series of quests in which the player can join the Watch and assist Ford and his team in a number of investigations, after which Maria may decide to leave the Watch in order to be with the player, depending on their actions.
