Cordelia for life!

I feel compelled to address two crucial cultural points raised: 1. In British culture "putting the kettle on" or making tea is a gesture of welcome, comfort or consoling. Or it's half-time. It also gives you something to do with your hands when your stiff upper lip wobbles off-side. 2. I am a pretty average British car driver so I can drive a manual ("stick"), use roundabouts and hot-wire a car. All part of the standard driving test.

RIPoulter

nah, i disagree. Buffy leaving town for three months after fighting and presumably killing angel should have said as much. They should have realized she left for a reason, and instead of complaining about how it affected them, they should try to understand why she felt like she had to leave.

Pat

This. Buffy continuously bottles things up Major character flaw.

Christopher simeon

Of course age isn't a monolith, and Buffy's friends' reaction is still realistic, including Willow's. You're overstating Willow's maturity based on the fact that she's "well behaved" and conforms more to what adults expect of her, which is different than having more empathy and life experience to draw on (maturity).

outdoorcats

Willow can be very selfish and self involved imo

bits

Team buffy here for this episode BUT remember the gang don’t know willows spell worked last minute and buffy had to kill her angel. They just think she was ready to kill toxic angel and she did … buffy went through a TRAUMATIC expirience killing her love. But they don’t know plus they are teenagers.

charlie ray

as someone who was once 17, i was more mature then this when i was 15. age is not a monolith! and it so doesnt fit willow's persona aka the most mature one of the bunch. "buffy are you ok? why did you leave? talk to us" that is what should be said, not attack attack attack

rickie woodson

Agree completely, I actually hate everyone but Giles and Buffy in this episode, I was just trying to see the other side lol

bits

Everyone in the comments gotta remember that Buffy's friends are still in high school. Their reaction is pretty realistic for 17/18-year-olds - they are hurt that Buffy "abandoned" them without saying goodbye, and simply lack the imagination/maturity to understand the trauma Buffy went through (and of course they only know part of the story).

outdoorcats

solid ep that i will of course be watching again but its all about next week! my birthday month is going to RULE!

rickie woodson

The amount of fury I had towards Xander in this episode, knowing that his lie to Buffy in Becoming Part 2 played a big role in things ending up the way they did and her leaving town... MAN did I want Buffy to bring Nighthawk down a degree or three here...

Fuiono Ching Sung

I kinda get Xanders stance more than Willows tbh. Xander was angry and let her know, Willow was being cagey and weird, like setting up a meet and then just not showing up. I'd rather someone just told me straight up like Xander than just ghosting me.

Jon Dub

Giles is the best 😋❤

bits

I agree with everyone in this thread and hate how the Scoobies behave this episode buuut to play devil's advocate, they did give her opportunity to communicate, first at Giles's and then Willow in the bedroom. All she had to say was, something horrible went down and I'm not ready to talk about it, and imo that would have been enough for them.

bits

This is my least favorite episode of the season, and I know what you're going to say, this is a really good episode, what's wrong with you? Well you don't control my life Todd! Anyway you're right it is a really good episode. That only goes to show how "pedal to the floor" this season is. I think it's because this is mostly a character driven episode, and I prefer seeing the lore of a show explored instead.

Tim Pierce

As well as the guy the princess tried to smooch in Inca Mummy Girl.

Tim Pierce

Do you like my mask? Isn't it pretty? It raises the dead. Americans. 😂😂

Blake

I hate Xander with a passion

Blake

Woooo! RIght this episode, uh its good, i mean i enjoy it, its fun, always fu wathing normies, so all good. lol wooo!

Ricardo Obregon

But they could’ve tried to be understanding she still had to kill Angel even if his soul wasn’t restored that would still hurt Buffy. She only left for couple of months just to clear her mind after everything sunnydale put her through. And Joyce is the only person who I could try to understand from her point of view but she could have tried to be more empathetic towards her teenage daughter.

Magical Creature

I agree. It's all about perspective. Communication is key.

M.

Their anger seems to be justified through their point of view considering Buffy didn't tell them that Angel's soul was restored right before she killed him. Communication is important when your dealing with trauma.

Robert Shelton

This ep always raises my blood pressure like the adult Buffys mom should have tried to be more understanding like your teenage daughter has to literally deal with so much baggage and trauma. Also dislike Xander in this ep you of all people don’t get to be mad at her. And also Willow don’t even wanna get to that. The supposed friends totally ignore Buffys suffering and don’t empathize with her then Buffy just forgives them. Sorry for this rant but this episode always gets me angry

Magical Creature

Ok. Maybe i went too hard on her. Its just that what she does in this episode gets on my nerve hahaha I mean you daughter run away after YOU screan to her face to never come back if she gets out to SAVE THE WORLD and when she finally shows, you dont talk with her for real? Even worse, you talk to a random "friend" that some times is even worse with her around? How can you say you was miserable with her missing, and then 2 DAYS LATER going on saying those king of things? And then makes a scene in front of everyone DEMANDING the 17years that YOU told to never come back to have the conversation you should have had in private in front of everybody... I admit that maybe im beeing to hard on her but I can forgive her friends for acting like they did, cause they too are dumb teenagers... But she is her fucking mother you know? Giles gives Buffy the treatment I think a relieved parent should give.

Gabriel Moreira

I basically agree with you 96% except I think you may be a little harsh towards Joyce. Don't think she was a bad mother.... willfully ignorant for missing everything that was going on for years but she was doing the best she could. And I get why she was pissed at Giles... I think that many parents finding out that their daughter has a "secret relationship" with an older man would be "wigged".

Chelsea

"Buffy has shown poor judgement time and time again" And yet, she have been saving the whole world for years now. "She is too young to know anything about love or life" And yet, not too young to literally KILL on a dayle basis. And just for the record, their love WAS real and pure, cause it was the only way the curse could be broken... so yeah, if the show says their love was real, I think I can say it too. And im not saying she is perfect or that she cant fail or make bad decisions, everoyne does, god knows I made some... What Im saying is that her world was falling into pieces around her to the point she couldt see any other choise besides running away. Not only she had no place to go, she was literally being chased by the police! Runing was the only thing she thought It would be best for everyone, not for her... And when she comes back NO ONE can sit with her and ASK how she was? Talk with her for real like friends? Instead they jump over her and start to cry over how THEY suffered and its ALL HER fault? Sorry man, im putting myself in her shoes, cause NO ONE in this episode did. No one had empathy for what she went. And for the record, I have a daughter, she is not a teen yet, but I will NEVER say to her "dont you ever come back to this house". Im sorry, but as a parent, I blame her mother the MOST for her running away in the most complicated and hard time of her life. And the fact that Joyce says to Giles, when he tries to confort her, that she doesn't blame herself, she blames OTHERS for what happened, shows me how a bad mother she is. anyway, have a good day ^^

Gabriel Moreira

Uhh Buffy's a slayer and in life or death situation all the time, so Joyce is gonna have to get used to worrying about her (this isn't a spoiler.. Buffy's in danger every episode lol). And I agree that most people don't have a "love of their live" at 17 but at the same time... my grandparents have been together since they were like 16 and I do know of other couples like that... it does happen. IMO Buffy's friends are the ones who showed a true lack of empathy and instead of having a real conversation (like Buffy wanted to with her friends), they threw a giant party so they wouldn't have to actually talk to her.

Chelsea

Willow: You could talk to me. Buffy: You've been avoiding me. Willow: Yeah well, it's hard. (Me: You upset cos Buffy took off for a few months, she's upset cos she had to kill her boyfriend... perspective....)

Chelsea

The kid eating the dip is Johnathan. You’ve seen him before he was the kid who peed in the pool in the Go Fish episode.

Ana Vazquez

Buffy has shown poor judgement time and time again. She had sex with an old man that was a vampire. You do not have a "LOVE OF YOUR LIFE" at 17. You are too young. If every teenager ran away that had a fight with their parents then every single teenager would have ran away. Instead of having an actual conversation with her mother afterwards she ran away. If you believe that running away from difficult conversations and confrontation is a good character trait then nobody can change your mind. Her friends were terrible in this episode but she was selfish and deserves some amount of blame. Imagine your teenage daughter runs away. How worried you would be. Holding your breath every time the phone rang. It is a parents worst nightmare. Seems like your bias prevents you from looking at it from a different perspective. It is called empathy.

Shawn Brink

Let me get this... Só Buffy had to kill the love of her life with her own hands, got speled from School AND from her house because her mother went Full bitch aboult her being a slayer... And its her fault for running away?!? How the hell they think that her mom, Xander or anyone can put the blame on her AFTER avoiding her or saying its bad that she returned for thinking to run away again

Gabriel Moreira

I dunno, Willow was being annoying too when Buffy was trying to talk to her. I expected more from her

Calvin Allen

Xander being an ass again

Gabriel Moreira

Finally, the season can really start after these two bridge episodes.
